Meanwhile, Khessa waits, at Clarac's side, occasionally watching the sacred heroine out of the corner of her eye...
The blonde arcane warrior has never been very familiar with the gods - Flute is probably the first goddess in the whole Multiverse with whom she has ever felt so good and so familiar - and yet now, with the sacred statuette with her that radiates that feeling of peace and security, she feels so... complete... 'Is this how Clarac feels?' she thinks 'Is this how she has always felt, since she devoted herself to her gods?'
Then, remembering that, at the moment, there are other gods to deal with, far less pleasant than Clarac's, the tall adventuress focuses again on the surrounding environment, waiting for a sign (or news) from Tyekanik.
You sense an ambush at the landing up ahead, you detect the heavy breathing of a demon that is standing back away from the lip of the stairs
Before Tyek's head pokes above the level of the top stair, he backs silently back down the stairs. The goliath looks back at Khessa and Clarac and holds one hand to his head like a horn, and he makes an ugly scowl and then he giggles silently as he pantomimes crouching as though hiding. Then he points up toward the top of the staircase. Finally, he looks back again and circles his hand around to indicate the group and points up the stairs with a questioning look.
Then Tyek pauses and looks back toward the staircase by the banquet hall as though considering that option.
Khessa smiles at the goliath's pantomime, understanding its meaning. "A demon lurking..." she whispers to the nearby party members "I'd say we go up nonchalantly, then we run at him as soon as we set foot up. He counted on surprise. Without it, he will be no match for us all".
The blonde arcane warrior then slowly leads the party upstairs. She does no try to be stealthy, for she pretends to be unaware of the ambush. Passing near Tyekanik, she whispers to him also, repesting what she already said to the rest of the party.
As soon as she is upstairs, the tall adventuress (together with every party member who enjoys a melee with a demon) suddenly turns towards the menace and runs with her Death Spear lowered for a charge!

Vrox offers a few options if the fighters want to consider options other than a head-on assault:
Vrox could create a Fog Cloud to level the playing field. Because of his Feral Senses, Vrox can attack an unseen opponent without disadvantage.
Vrox could try sneaking past the demon while concealed by Nature's Veil. That way, he could try to surprise it from behind, allowing the others mount the stairs and attack it from that side.
Vrox could Summon Fey or use his Rust Bag of Tricks and send the conjured ally ahead of the party to give the demon something else to attack, allowing the others to get to the top of the stairs and attack.
But if Khessa is as confident as Tyek, Vrox will simply get out his bow and plan to follow behind the fighters.
Tyek, of course, will rage before he heads back up the stairs.
Here is the position of the enemy, let me know if your positions are different. As you detected the ambush, you will have initiative.
[[OOC: Works for me.]]
Tyekanik already started his rage while moving up the stairs, choosing Annam's Greataxe as his Elemental Cleaver (with thunder damage). When he gets to the top of the stairs, he runs toward the demon, shouting, "Demon! You will fall your brethren!" As he passes the last Drow Death Knight (the one closest to the Abishai), the reaches out with one hand and flings the knight toward the north wall. Once he gets close enough to the demon, Tyek swings his axe recklessly, paying little attention to his own defense.
Movement: 40' of movement to move to the northwest side of the hall and engage with the demon. Action: Two Reckless Attacks with Annam's Greataxe as his Elemental Cleaver (thunder) Attack 1: 35, Damage: 20 (magical thunder) + 9 (force) = 29 (total) Attack 2: 37, Damage: 51 (magical thunder) + 32 (force) = 83 (total) Bonus Action: Tyek uses Mighty Impel on the drow death knight nearest the Red Abishai. The drow death knight must succeed on a DC 22 STR saving throw or be moved to a position 20' north and 10' east of the knight's current position. (Moving the knight out from behind the cover of the alcove.)
Khessa charges at the farthest Drow Death Knight (the closest ones should be easier to reach from the characters further back) reaching him with her Death Lance held in two hands.
Alfred, the stolid humanoid construct, follows her and stays behind her, helping to deflect any attacks.
Vrox continues moving north, up the stairs, to give himself the best angle on the opponents in the hallway.
If Tyek manages to hurl the drow death knight into the hallway, he says, "Thank you!", and lets two arrows fly at that opponent.
If not, he'll target the death knight on the first staircase, who should have no cover from Vrox.
Movement: 25' of movement (20' north and 5' west) to move just to the top of the stairs Action: Two attacks on the marked death knight with Dragon's Wrath Longbow (150/600) Attack 1: 29 Damage: 13 (magical piercing, including HM dmg) + 11 (radiant) = 24 (total) Attack 2: 34 Damage: 16 (magical piercing, including HM dmg) + 5 (radiant) = 21 (total) The first hit does an additional 6 (psychic), or if it was a critical hit, 7 (psychic) Bonus Action: Reassign mark to the selected death knight. Free Action: None.

[[ OOC: Just role-playing, Khessa took her Round 1 turn already ]]
Lord Akkron, noting that he's getting a bit low on magic, decides to go ahead and let the mortals do the heavy lifting.
He casts mind sliver on whichever drow death knight looks like it's closest to death. DC 24 Int save vs. 12 psychic damage. Also, it will have to subtract 1d4 from its next saving throw if it fails the initial Int save.
