Hoid will pogo-stick to get a glimpse of the intersecting tunnel in both directions. Intention is to see if it is safe to hop up to the edge. If so, he will jump up to the tunnel and look in both directions, taking advantage of newly improved 120’ dark vision.
How steep is the slope of the intersecting tunnel? Walkable or rollercoaster?
The intersecting tube is smooth walled and slopes gently; up to the right, down to the left. The tunnel you are in continues its gradual descent as well. There are bends to all the passages allowing you to see 60-80 feet in any direction.
Metanephos does not respond to Chadwick. Instead it looks to Starker after Chadwick addresses it.
Hoid, to the group, “It seems the tunnel was not just a secret entrance to the lodge. Alamnal could have gone in any of three directions from this intersection. Unless we can determine which way he went, I am concerned we will wander aimlessly and we might not be equipped properly for an extended expedition to the under dark. Sir Chadwick, can you find any sign of Alamnal’s passing? Starker, perhaps you can ask your friend in the fishbowl which passage is the shortest route to Alamnal? If neither of these queries are fruitful, should we continue?”
Starker:”Good boy. good Meganephos! Please always follow the commands of any of my friends here assembled.
”Cyrus can now see in the dark, and through his eyes I can, also. I mention it not to point out my transcendent experimental accomplishment ( you will each have sn opportunity to read the manuscript when it is finished ) but rather to inform you each of a new capability.”
(( I'm not sure how connected Chris is so I will share what he and I have exchanged. ))
Kragen looks to the crossing tunnel carefully, examining the walls and comparing them to the tunnel that you are currently walking through. "This crossing tunnel is not natural, like the one we have descended. I have never seen such a thing before, thanks to Tyr! But this smooth tunnel appears to resemble descriptions of what is left after a purple worm burrows through the rock," he says pointing to the smooth walls of the tunnel.
That is hard to say. There does not seem to be any natural forces of erosion or wear taking place here. But, if you had to guess you would say it occurred in the past 50 years.
Starker:”Or split up 2 to a tunnel … but, on second thought, perhaps not.”
Pull out the fishbowl:”O Watery Oracle, you led us to our enemy and we have destroyed his allies and seriously discommoded him. However, he escaped down here and we need your guidance again to finish our mission. Please indicate the tunnel we should go through in order to most quickly find him and end his evil existence. Thank you in advance.”
Trolkarl watches the magical fish intently, but his mind remains restless. After a moment, he speaks, his voice low and thoughtful.
The idea that Alamnal is a ‘reformed’ drow who just happened to arrive at court seems a multilayered facade. His refusal to speak of his past led to rumors. Mostly whispers of exile—stories likely of his own making. And seeing drow among his forces at the lodge suggests something larger than a lone outcast. That tome he carried away could hold the key—to why this happened.
We know that Nimnal wasn’t just a scholar of the arcane; he communed with the dead. Whatever truth he uncovered, it led to an angry confrontation with Alamnal, and soon after, he traveled to the standing stones near the lodge for a ritual… one from which neither he nor his guards returned.
Trolkarl glances at Starker, then the others.
If the path the fish recommends fails to guide us to Alamnal, we may need to rethink our approach. Perhaps, instead of hunting the drow, we search out Nimnal’s remains. If we can uncover his secrets, they may lead us to the truth of Alamnal’s presence here—and why the drow would have designs on the surface.

I read that as it follows you. Not much good an item if it is 60’ away giving off bright light to 20’. Assume it stays close.
Cyrus can carry it, or Jievs, at your preference.
Starker is happy to have Cyrus carry it.
There you stand, at the intersection of the two passages.
Is there a map for this?
"Meganephos, you see any people in either direction?"
Hoid will pogo-stick to get a glimpse of the intersecting tunnel in both directions. Intention is to see if it is safe to hop up to the edge. If so, he will jump up to the tunnel and look in both directions, taking advantage of newly improved 120’ dark vision.

“Or can the hound smell Alamnal’s stench?”
Chadwick remembers he has recently gotten better at tracking and looks to see if he can find any tracks around the intersection.
"Kragen could cast guidance me before I start looking for tracks? Tyr's wisdom is always welcomed."
Survival check 20 +2 assuming Kragen casts guidance.
(Looks like guidance is not available from Tyr via Kragen at the moment.)
No evidence of passage can be found.
Meganephos does not have a reference scent to search for. He also communicates, not much in the way of scent here.
Starker:”Good boy. good Meganephos! Please always follow the commands of any of my friends here assembled.

Gneuman spins to turn to Ajax, "Not YOUR purple worm!" "...really? A tunnel THAT big.....I don't think so."
The gnome looks around at the group. "Ajax says that...oh, never mind."
Chadwick stands confused for a bit, then blushes and grateful is for his helm.
Then adds "What's a purple worm?"
Does the worm tunnel appear freshly cut or old?
That is hard to say. There does not seem to be any natural forces of erosion or wear taking place here. But, if you had to guess you would say it occurred in the past 50 years.
Hoid, to the group, “Do we ask the fish, guess a direction, or return to the lodge?”
