The hound’s best use is ability to see the invisible ogre. Sending the hound ahead provides an excellent opportunity for the invisible ogre to kill the hound while we are helpless to assist. I say the dog stays with us and provides commentary on any creatures it sees (and we do not).
Starker:”whozza good magic doggie? Meganephos is a good magic doggie! Please walk with the person at the head if our little band and warn him if you sense something scary. Please let Cyrus ride on your shoulders so he, too, can look ahead.”
Chadwick walks along following the magic dog with a monkey riding on it while traversing down mine tracks in an abandoned dwarven City, like it's just another day.
While things are interesting down here (aside from the winds of death) he doesn't get how folks can live down here. He ponders on how he misses the fertile fields of home and exploring the woods with his friends.
You proceed ahead with Cyrus riding the back of meganephos. The tracks continue off into the darkness. Metanephos turns to Starker, “Something is moving out in that fungus field to the left.”
"I recommend that, before we send a party member that we send the Hound to investigate, which will regenerate if something bad happens to it."
The figurine will not be reusable for a week and we still need to recover it. So if there is bad juju out there that kills the dog we either have to engage said bad juju anyway or lose the dog, making regeneration moot.

"The members of our party are of more concern than that figurine! What would be your suggestion then?"
"Ignore the entity or find another means to investigate? Trolkarl's Fey may be good use?"
“Kragen you cantankerous old fart, I did not say that the figurine is of greater importance than the party members. Instead I pointed out the flaw in your reasoning! The hound will not regenerate if killed unless we confront the danger that kills it! Screw your head back on! If we want to sacrifice our tool that provides the ability to see invisible creatures, which we know to be in this mine, so be it, but we will be unable to use that tool for seven days if we then recover said tool. Moreover, if we cannot defeat whatever is over in that fungus farm, sacrificing the hound is irrelevant!”
Are there any rocks or similar objects Hoid can throw at the area where the invisible object has been identified? If so, rolled a 13 for whatever the appropriate skill is. +5 if it is acrobatics, +7 if it is athletics.
Hoid finds a solid piece of debris and chucks it in the direction specified by Metanephos. You think you see him subtly move to give chase and stop before saying, “Nice toss.”
The projectile flies and then lands in the area of the fungal growth specified. A piercing shriek erupts, filling the mountain with its shrill clarion. Echoes fill the air and your ears ring with the sudden change from silence to cacophony. The shrieking continues after the thrown rock comes to rest.
(( You can decide whether to activate the dog or not at this point. ))
(Nah, Starker’s gonna Starker, eager to please and quick to act.)
((I wasn’t suggesting no dog, just not on point.))
Well, Meganephos is more of a setter….
The tiny statuette hits the ground and up springs Meganephos, black mastiff extraordinaire. He stands and looks to Starker for instruction.
/Plans?
“Are we going to send The Hound forth to scout or shall we sally forth?”

Indicated by blue circle.
Does my Tremorsense pick it up as well?
Starker:”Thank you, Meganephos. Good boy. Cyrus, to me!”
No. Just seems like vegetation.
Quietly to the group "Well, we can send the Hound to investigate, send someone/s from the party, or ignore it and move forward?"

Is this a new noise, or have we heard it here before?
