No mage hand for me. The gems as clues seem possible. We know the statues have depressions w facets in the forehead.
One of the statues was an armored dwarf. The two suits of human armor we first encountered had messages written in dwarvish. It could be a coincidence. Maybe Xagyg hired dwarves to decorate the place. Would dwarves hang 8’ high doors?
Eagle, Robed Dwarf, Skull, Armored Dwarf... no idea. Keep collecting, and maybe it will make sense after someone gets charred doing something heroic in this room.
In my inventory I have rope and a 3 lb hammer. I’m going to try tying the rope to the head of the hammer and see how well it might swing to smack the gem across the lava. I’m NOT going to try to hit the gem (yet).
What if we we have two people on each end of the rope stretching across the lava pit, then the gnome shimmies across? Or we tie him in the middle and just we just walk him over it? Or if we had a bucket we might just be able to scoop it up with bucket ties in middle.
I’m going back to the nearest pile of coins to grab a handful (preferably gold and silver). I will then toss some as close as I can to the edge of the lava (if some go in, so be it). The goal is to see if this is melt metal hot.
Using Gneuman's rope, you fashion a secure attachment to him at the center. Chadwick and Trolkarl take one end; Hoid and Kragen take the other end. After a few practice attempts, you figure out a running jump assisted by a tug on the rope should cover the distance. "Go time" arrives and Gneuman lines up, runs.........and jumps. (( I rolled all the STR and DEX saves ))
Your plan works! Gneuman lands on the pile of coins, scattering many over the edge into the lava. They slowly melt and sink into the molten stone. Gneuman grabs the emerald and places it in a pouch. Now, in reverse, Gneuman takes a running leap and crosses back to your side of the lava.
Hoid now has the diamond and sapphire. Gneuman has coins from the mimic room and the emerald.

and the opposing hallway leads to a deadend, correct? Or have we not explored that area?
(I tried the short rest thing, but I obviously didn't make it work.)

(( Todd, Roll a d8 on your character sheet and we can add the HP manually. ))
Hoid hears a voice in his head telling him that plan really won’t work well enough to count on not destroying the emerald in the lava.
The opposite hallway deadends
Could you get mage hand with a long rest?

I rolled a big old ONE.
If I get some health back, I will shimmy across if that is what you want to try.
I think securing you to middle of rope, then walking it across would be safest. Like danger jump rope!
Unencumbered, a human male can typically broad jump 10. Dwarves however can barely broad jump the width of a rope!

The coins land on the lava and melt into pools of silver and gold before sinking into the lava.

Lava Gem Lava
Does walking the gnome across the lava pit to snag gem make anymore sense with an ASCII drawing?
We really should consider moving our chat to Telegram or WhatsApp so we could include sketches and memes.
ASCII drawing makes sense, as did the prior discussion. I wanted to ensure the lava was deadly instead of … something else.
So, do you have a plan?
Nobody seems to have a problem with danger jump rope so let's go with that.
My thought is STR saves for the four on the ropes and a DEX save for Gneuman to determine success. Sound good?
