This campaign will be an enhanced and altered version of the Tomb of Annihilation with several side plots added on. I use modules as a framework and tailor them to a specific, fantastic story. I have run some epic campaigns that have been text-based chat and enhanced by play-by-post. I intend this one to follow suit.
You will find a game, world, and experience with:
-More background lore, more development in people and places. And loads more description.
-Fewer battles and traps… although there will still be plenty!
-More developed plot lines and story arcs and lots of interaction with NPCs, who are treated as characters with complete lives and motivations of their own.
-My version will be more like Heart of Darkness (Apocalypse Now) than Indiana Jones. There will be adult content.
Who I am
I am a dude that likes to write. And I am pretty good at it. I have an English degree, art minor, and several years of experience teaching History and English. After this, I took up a trade as an electrician. First commercially and then independently. I rehabbed a few houses, learned a bunch of stuff and then moved to Portugal. I am at the point in my life where I would like to do more writing and get back to my creative roots, but creativity needs stimulus and community.
Crafting a campaign has always been good at providing this stimulus. I like to create and describe vivid settings, characters to interact with, plot lines, and story arcs. I like using a module, because it provides a framework for the DM and PCs to craft their own story. My campaigns rarely stay on the tracks provided by the module, but a good module allows for that!
Who we are looking for
People who like to write
People who like to read
People who like to be creative
People who are flexible, open-minded, and enjoy participating in crafting a story together
People who are mature and can handle content, that like good literature, can be uncomfortable at times

Chat-based session will be weekly on Sundays 19:00 GMT. This is a great place for combat or high-tension interaction.
Play-by-Post will occur during the week. This is where the story happens in a more literary vein. There is no mandate as to how much you should participate during the week, but it should be a fun, creative activity.
this sounds awesome but the chat on Sundays would be hard for me to make. if you decide to make a game that is pure pbp, I would be very interested in applying. good luck!
We have 4 saying sessions on Sunday wouldn't work. No sure how many people applied through private messaging, but if you need more players, would you be fine making it just play-by-post on the forums?
Thank you all for your interest. I do have 5 players now that are up for a hybrid game of PbP and weekly chat sessions. I must admit, I am curious about your experiences with strictly PbP. These forums seem to be quite active. I have found that without the impetus of a session, attention spans often wander...
There is also something exciting about live interaction/combat that brings a different element to the game. People have to make quick decisions, creating tense scenes.
Also, if anyone still wants to drop me a message about playing, feel free. I don't want to take anymore than 5, but I find that people sometimes say they want to play and then realize... oops... I am busier than I thought!
I think the truly important elements to a successful PbP are a group of players dedicated to engaging in an out of character game chat and an understanding of the need for patience.
One of the problems with any form of online play is the tendency to treat the other players as disposable resources (they're the side kicks to my hero mentality or the pieces through which I tell my story) instead of people with lives and complications. Getting to know a bit about them outside the game helps. Its easier to wait a day or two for player x to post when you all want player x to do this negotiation and you all like their style of writing their character, but you also know their kid has the flu and their getting no sleep with that and work.
I do agree everything takes 10 times longer in PbP and your also right that moves are sometimes less spontaneous, but I think you would be surprised how often players are waiting on someone else to make their move so they can post their own actions without taking the changes into account.
Again, for pbp combat an out of play chat is critical. I find the story flows better if the DM rolls initiative for everyone and the players post their character actions, the dm the opponents actions, in the out of play chat. A double check to make sure nothing was missed like reactions or saves and there aren't any misunderstandings, then take turns of having one person post that rounds actions for everyone into the play chat. Or you can do only DM synopsis, or alternating DM\players. What ever helps keep the style you like in the play chat. It also helps when bringing in new players as you they don't need to read 500 pages of combat mechanics.
There are other things too but this is long enough
yeah, I have found that having a group message on this site outside of the game thread helps a ton and is basically manditory. it is a place to ask questions outside of the game thread so that it stays neat and focused on the game /role play. I wish you the best of luck and if you decide to have a game that is exclusively on this side though messages / game thread I would love to participate. I have found that they can be just as exciting as a good book as far as action and suspense.. even without having the specific timee commitments for an in-person chat room session.
I'm also free during those times (it will be 3pm in my time) and im interested in this (as it just so happens to be my frist time playing too). hopefully this place is open.
oh and also, is this going to be hosted on here or on discord?
Hello again. We started this game with 5 great players, but then 2 of them had to quit due to schedules/not having enough time. So I am opening it back up to try and find two more players. Please message me if you are interested. Also, let me know a little bit about yourself, so we can make sure you are a good fit.
The three players have all made human characters, and that is an important factor for some players. We aren't looking for crazy races, but rather complex characters built up through backstory and experiences.

I too liked the idea, but the committed time for the chat would be very difficult for me weekly.

I agree with Wreckzors and Giasrhen. The play by post is great, I just can't do chat sessions.

I agree with everyone else. What you described sounds interesting, but weekly pbp sessions haven't gone well for me in the past.

I can’t do chat sessions, but if you decide to go strictly PbP, count me in—this sounds awesome.
I'm actually free for the chat sessions as well. This sounds very cool and I already have a few character ideas swimming around my head.
