Ixsas and Serge do not see Pharblex. The giant lizards are agitated in the stables and letting out loud hisses. The giant lizard in the center stall is letting out cries of pain as it tries to break out.
Serge now on the ground floor of the stables please roll Perception Check DC 13
on Pass
You see thorns covering the floor at the exit of the stables. These thorns are the same color as the stone floor and blend in almost perfectly. Stepping into such a field of thorns would injure you. The area is difficult terrain.
((OOC: Yes. Thanks. So, Ixsas and Serge could both make it to the trapdoor with their movement. Serge dashed downstairs to the first floor and toward Pharblex or any exit we can see. Ixsas just paused to check whether he could already see Pharblex through the trapdoor before deciding what to do.
BTW, I was assuming that the Giant Lizards that we heard on the first floor of F are locked in individual stalls, like horses. If that's not true, and they're just loose on the first floor, then Ixsas and Serge may decide not to race downstairs right into the middle of a bunch of Giant Lizards!
What do we see when we open the trapdoor and look down?))
Ixsas mutters to himself, "Huh. I thought that we were right behind him." He wonders about the bullywug shaman's powers. What if he can turn invisible or transform into a giant lizard?
(The giant lizards are in individual stalls like horses.)
First floor Stables. Blue dot is where the ladder is
Ixsas dashes down the ladder to the first floor (in round 3), and I guess he doesn't see any hazard until he or Serge hits it.
((@weathervision - Does going down a ladder count as climbing? If so, I guess that's 20-ft of movement, and Serge and Ixsas will end round 3 only 10-ft south of the ladder and not quite in the red area yet.))
Separate check to spot the hazard. Ixsas - Perception: 24
Once Ixsas reaches the bottom of the ladder, he heads toward the bottom of the maps (east, IIRC) and the doors. Since they haven't spotted Pharblex yet, he scans the floor for any sign of which way Pharblex went, when he instead sees that the floor ahead is covered with thorns!
These thorns are the same color as the stone floor and blend in almost perfectly.
If Serge is ahead of him and not slowing down, Ixsas says urgently: "Serge, stop!"
Instead of moving into the red area, Ixsas finishes his movement by moving up to Serge and then toward the left (south) side of the map. As he passes Serge, he whispers a quiet warning, pointing at the floor, "The floor there is covered in cruel thorns."
Ixsas should end round 3 at the wall to the inner ward (left side of the map) and just before the start of the spikey area. He raises his shield slightly and looks with increased suspicion toward the center stall where they can hear the injured lizard. Perhaps Pharblex is still here, hoping to ambush them when they fall into this trap?
krackle would quickly shield himself from the attacking bulkywug before unleashing a blast of flame towards the attacking creature any any others he can hit in his blast..
"Oh I see the thorns, friend," Serge whispers. "What I don't see is the 200 pound frog we are supposed to be chasing."
Frustrated, he whispers to the giant lizards. "Krackle Jr, is that you? Did you see a frogman, about yay high, come through this way? Help us out, won't you pal?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Krackle dodges the bullywug attacks as smoke still billows from his nose. with a deep break he hopes to eliminate both bullywug 4 amd 5 and any others he can hit without hurting zeds...
Serge can try Animal Handling to calm the giant lizard and maybe figure out what has it so agitated.
The Stables are dim, and the stalls could offer a good hiding place as not all of the stalls are occupied by giant lizards. There are 8 stalls 4 that you can see occupied by giant lizards.
Seeing that one lizard might actually be responding to him (maybe), Serge gently approaches that stall.
Animal Handling: 20
"Whoa there, easy now... fella? What seems to be the trouble?" He isn't sure how one is supposed to talk to a giant lizard, so he does his best to treat it the way he would a spooked horse, talking low and slow.

The Giant Lizard calms down and thumps its tail against the stall and looks around to the stalls 6-8 that seems to be empty. Stalls 6-8 are on the other side of area of thorns.
((OOC: Are there any long beams of wood in this room? Or at least some stools, benches, bags of feed, or empty barrels and troughs on our side of the stables? If we could put down some sturdy objects to step on, we might be able to cross the thorny area without actually stepping on floor itself.
Ixsas is contemplating a plan that basically amounts to playing "the floor is lava" with the thorny area.))
There are 2 bags of feed, and 2 troughs filled with water. There are no barrels, stools, benches. There are long beams of wood on the ceiling similar to the one in the image.
Zeds bobs and weaves the attacks but one finds the exact right spot! Luckily the Bullywug was also busy dodging, Krackle's flames for them, and they didn't have the power to make the true struck blade strike very deep... (don't ya just hate rolling a 1 on a nat 20?)
Accepting that there are too many waiting to come up the steps for them to hold them off forever, and that the others must have found another way out from the other room, Zeds says "I think it may be time for us to run," to Krackle and jerks his head towards the other room. Zeds then either uses the shove to try to push the closest Bullywug to him back towards the others coming up the stairs hoping the dead bodies already upon the stairs and a flailing live one being pushed back towards them would slow them all down... OR if no living Bullywug currently in melee with him he'll just bend down to one of the corpses and try to get it rolling down the stairs for the same general slowing down or stopping those trying to climb up...
"C'mon!" he then calls to Krackle and starts leading the way to the other room which Serge and Ixses went to...
(Shove DC would only be a 10... Zeds is a weakling...)

(No climbing down the ladder does not count as climbing. Ixsas now on the ground floor can also make a perception check DC 13)
If both Serge and Ixsas do not see the thorns, then both of you take 7 piercing damage for every 5 feet of travel.
((OOC: OK. Then I guess we can make it 5 to 10 feet into the red area this round.))
