Look i'm going to say you have time for both a rest and a ritual casting of Identify . Go ahead and mark off a Short Rest.
The Longsword is certainly a +1 magic sword, it's name is Whisper. This sword is from the Fey realm, created by a master smith in the Seelie Court On a closer look it is exquisitely crafted from the finest materials and glows with a pale radiance in moonlight, shedding dim light in a 5-foot radius. The metal doesn't seem to be steel, but more of a silver, and it never get's dirty. As it's name suggests, the weapon talks to it's bearer, granting a +2 bonus to initiative if they aren't incapacitated.
I'm going to create a custom magic item and put it in Theldrin's inventory.
(Awesome, thanks... probably can just add it to Avery's inventory when things are working again, as Theldrin will offer Whisper to him and let him know what he learned about it)

(Yeah, as I said, he's probably the only one who can make use of it at the moment. BTW, good on Theldrin for remembering the sword and finding it! I had completely lost track of that in the turtle fight. Xanrym would have just left it lying in the mud.)
After the party finishes its Short Rest, Xanrym is ready to continue following Whiskers on the cultists' trail. At this point, he has no hope that they'll catch up to Mayor Ormond and his kidnappers before they reach the naga's lair.
Xanrym asks whether the others think that they're getting close to the naga's lair. Should they travel more slowly with Liarin or Xanrym in the lead, scouting ahead and moving stealthily? He wouldn't want to be surprised by any cultists who are guarding the naga's lair or be spotted by them at a distance, giving the cult plenty of warning of the party's approach.
Or maybe Whiskers can give them a warning if the squirrel thinks that they're getting close?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After resting for a bit, then identifying the sword and giving it to Avery, Theldrin gets ready to venture on into the Rushmoors. He stands with staff in hand, peering into the murky swampland ahead.
Xanrym says, "If Whiskers can signal to us once we're getting close to the end of the trail, then we can keep moving at a regular march until then. No one will think twice if they just see a squirrel running through the trees and foraging on the ground."
In that case, Xanrym is ready for the next march, keeping with their existing matching order where he's at the rear with Heckle.
Whiskers agree's to let you know when he thinks you're getting close, "I should be able to tell, the smell of those Troglodytes is putrid." He says to Liarin in his unnervingly intelligent voice. Theldrin keeps a sharp eye out as you slowly make your way through the bog, nothing else dangerous comes at you, but the noises of the Rushmoor set's you all on edge. Strangely menacing.
The sun goes down just as Whisker's turns around and yanks on Liarin's pants, letting her know he thinks you're close. Probably within a few hours. You settle in for the night before heading further towards the lair of the naga. Feel free to chat and plan amongst yourselves on the upcoming foray. At some point I will need a d6 roll for random encounters for each person on watch. So a total of 3d6, 1 from each watcher.
Theldrin is taking the final watch as the dawn sun begins to peak over the horizon. His sixth sense kicks in, like he's being watched. At that same moment a stick breaks in the bushes behind him and he sees a slithering of scales peak over the bush and slink into the bog. Apparently whatever reptiles was there has sees the group and is retreating back in the direction Whisker's is leading you, back to the naga's lair.
Theldrin nods with a scowl, "After what I saw, I'm pretty certain they will be expecting us." After a light breakfast he practices with his staff for a few minutes, taking deep breaths and focusing his mind on the upcoming battle. Then just before the party heads out for the day, he will cast Mage Armor on himself.

Alright cool. Probably will be fine in a few days

Alright Whisper is in Avery's equipment

Alright, i'll let you discuss this a bit. Just to let you know, in order to talk to Whiskers Liarin would need to burn a spell slot.
(OOC: Yes, or cast Speak with Animals as a ritual while Theldrin is casting his Identify ritual.)
Good point
After resting for a bit, then identifying the sword and giving it to Avery, Theldrin gets ready to venture on into the Rushmoors. He stands with staff in hand, peering into the murky swampland ahead.
Perception: 15
Liarin will do the suggested ritual.
Coriana - Company of the Grey Chain
Wagner - Dragon Heist: Bards.
DM - The Old Keep
As it seems everyone is doing a ritual, then Avery will attune with the longsword
Xanrym says, "If Whiskers can signal to us once we're getting close to the end of the trail, then we can keep moving at a regular march until then. No one will think twice if they just see a squirrel running through the trees and foraging on the ground."

my shift: 4
Xanrym can take first watch.
Encounters: 4
Perception 10
Theldrin will also take a watch.
Encounter: 2
Perception: 12
Theldrin is taking the final watch as the dawn sun begins to peak over the horizon. His sixth sense kicks in, like he's being watched. At that same moment a stick breaks in the bushes behind him and he sees a slithering of scales peak over the bush and slink into the bog. Apparently whatever reptiles was there has sees the group and is retreating back in the direction Whisker's is leading you, back to the naga's lair.
Learning of this, Avery states, "Well, they may know we're coming, we should be on our guard for ambushes."
Theldrin nods with a scowl, "After what I saw, I'm pretty certain they will be expecting us." After a light breakfast he practices with his staff for a few minutes, taking deep breaths and focusing his mind on the upcoming battle.
