Seeing that Xanrym is moving North, Syllen decides to slow down the creature to the South.
“I'm right behind you!”
Action: Cast Entangle on the medium creature to the south. The one between the 10 and 9. DC 15 Str Save.
Movement: move next to Xanrym. One square south and one square right of him.
Area of Entangle that is difficult terrain: the 4 by 4 box includes
Starting from red creature 1 square to the left to 2 squares to the right. Also three squares North of the creature.
(OOC: sorry if my explanation sucks. Most of my posts are via mobile. If we use a grid and the red creature was at (0,0) the difficult terrain box would go from (-1,0) to (2,3).)
Coriana's attack hits, and when she casts Hex you feel the lightning energies in the node vibrate for a moment. It then releases, but pulses again when Syllen casts Entangle.
DC 16 DEX Save for the Grick Alpha (Did I mention this thing was quite Large?): 10
DC 16 DEX Save for the Grick Alpha (Did I mention this thing was quite Large?): 10
(OOC: Thanks for the heads up! I thought that I recognized the Grick image, but I wasn't sure whether it was just the closest token for some homebrew aberration. The initial description just said that it was a "worm with a beak," so Xanrym was hoping that it was still somewhat squishy. It sounds like he'll be adjusting that assumption after the first round. In any case, Xanrym used Create Bonfire, in part, to make it harder for that creature to cut us off as we move toward the north.
@drumdigby - The map cuts off. Are any of the tunnels that open into the north side of the Earth Node 10-ft wide or less? That'll ensure that the two fighters can hold the first monster at bay while we fight it. It'll be even better for us if the Large creatures have to "squeeze" into a 5-ft wide tunnel. Of course, it looks like the old rules on squeezing are obsolete if you're following the 2024 rules: creatures just treat narrower spaces as difficult terrain.)
(OOC: Up to you! Maybe the node will teleport us all out of danger. Maybe it will zap us all with lightning. No idea, really. Try something, and we'll deal with the consequences. 🙂)
[[OOC: My guess is its either going to happen after a certain number of slots are spent or this is just flavor. I would just steer away from the big guns for this fight if you or Theldrin don't want to risk activating the node.. Maybe. These guys might be tough.]]

Theldrin sighs and needing to make a quick decision, follows his instincts... casting Scorching Ray he sends the rays of fire towards the Otyugh. He then moves towards the North towards Xanrym.
With the casting of a 2nd level spell, the Earth Node's energy finally erupts. Light and sound like lightning zaps into your vision, blinding and deafening you all for a moment. When your vision returns, you are no longer in the chimney like cavern. While you still stand on rock, you are now in a gigantic dark cavern, the only wall of which you can see is directly to your south about 50ft. Everywhere else is dark as night, except for glittering lights up above your head that look light stars. The monsters have transported with you, but the Entangling vines and bonfire have not, only the vines Restraining the Gibbering Mouther teleported. The giant aberrations only take a moment to readjust to the new environment, then press the attack.
First the Gibbering Mouther makes a STR Save to escape the Vines: 10
It is unable to, so must spend it's turn where it is. The Otyugh attacks Coriana, while the giant Grick attacks Avery.
Bite against Coriana Attack: 10 Damage: 12 Piercing and she get's the Poisoned condition. She would also be subject to this effect: Whenever the Poisoned target finishes a Long Rest, it is subjected to the following effect. Constitution Saving Throw: DC 15. Failure: The target’s Hit Point maximum decreases by 5 (1d10) and doesn’t return to normal until the Poisoned condition ends on the target. Success: The Poisoned condition ends.
Tentacle 1 against Coriana Attack: 23 Damage: 10 Piercing, and she becomes Grappled with an escape DC 13
Tentacle 2 against Coriana Attack: 7 Damage: 13 Piercing, and she becomes Grappled with an escape DC 13
Beak against Avery Attack: 23 Damage: 20 Piercing
Slam against Avery Attack: 22 Damage: 9 Bludgeoning and Avery becomes Prone
Tentacles against Avery Attack: 10 Damage: 8 Slashing and Avery becomes Grappled with an escape DC 14
You all are up. You find yourselves in a new location, but the monsters still fight on.
Theldrin is exhilarated at first that the Earth Node teleportation worked, then dismayed as his vision continues to clear to see that the aberrations have come along for the ride. "Of course... " he mutters under his breath, shaking his head. Then seeing Contessa grappled by the Otyugh, he quickly sends a Fireball flying towards the creature's gaping maw, using Sculpt Spell to shield her from the spell's fiery effect.
Khessa was so intent on studying the Node, that she was slow to notice the monsters coming - and to react. And just as she unsheathed her magical greatsword, a strange but exhilarating sensation ran through her, when the magical energies of the Node passed through her body during the teleportation unleashed by Theldrin's latest spell.
The blonde arcane warrior promises to complete her notes later with an account of her direct experience of the magic of the Node - now, unfortunately, there are monsters to vanquish... and a party that is dividing its forces in an unhelpful manner. "Focus on the Otyugh!" she advises, while she already runs to Coriana's aid "Let's finish it first!"
After all, the Otyugh was the most targeted by the party's attacks... so it should be the quickest enemy to eliminate. And it is crucial to reduce the number of enemies, considering the number and danger of their attacks! The tall adventuress utters a short formula as she reaches Coriana and her outline becomes Blurry. Then, as she gets close to the monster she suddenly raises her magical greatsword in an upward slash, aimed at the lower part of the disgusting body.
[[ OOC: Khessa uses her Action to cast Blur - attack against her are at Disadvantage. She uses her Movement to reach the Otyugh and Action Surge to attack it with her greatsword. ]]

The Grick screams again at the bonfire, and the Gibbering Mouther is Restrained.
Avery and Theldrin are still up.
Avery will attack the aberration on the east (Right) side of the map: attack 9, damage 10
(OOC: @Aaggie - you forgot the second attack roll. Now that the PCs are 5th level, Avery has Extra Attack.)
