(OOC: I don't think Xanrym would have the movement to get underwater. It would take 3 feet of movement to move 1 foot in water.
(OOC: Agreed. At the end of last round, Xanrym grabbed Syllen and then had just enough movement to drag him until they both basically fell off the bridge into the water. He was still grappling Syllen, and I imagine that they were splashing and flailing about right at the surface of the water, just north of / adjacent to the Oceanbridge.)
Theldrin's mind races as he tries to think if he's ever come across anything like this in his studies, any accounts of a creature that fits the description of what the party has seen so far. In particular he wonders if Dispel Magic might work agains the charmed effect Xanrym seems to be under, or what else might help him to resist.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Both of Coriana's bolts miss. OK, so Xanrym and Syllen are not in the water, but Coriana is, so the creature would still act as it did last round. Coriana simply feels even more foreboding. Syllen get's out of the water and hit's the monster in the air, which flickers again. Once again, it seems to hurt the thing, but it flickers in and out of existence.
The creature uses one of it's Legendary Actions to Consume Memories on Xanrym, he feels his mind being scoured by the creature and makes a DC 16 INT Save or is reduced to 0 HP, on a save he takes 8 Psychic damage: 8
Theldrin can't think of what this creature might be, something ancient and unknowable. Khessa, however, is able to discern a few things about the strange apparition in front of her. This thing you see in front of you is just that: an apparition. Moreover, seeing it swimming in midair upwards tells you something is dangerous about the water; no one can be in it!
Theldrin, Khessa, and Avery are still up. Xanrym is still up but controlled by the beast, you may need to snap him out of it. The monster in the air doesn't seem overly hurt, and your blows aren't effecting it physically it seems.
Yes I believe he does get a save attempt, good point! And this is a Legendary Action, an action the monster can take after another creatures turn. As it isn't his turn, I don't think it needs to make a save.
Just reposting the prompt from before as nothing has changed.

Unsure of what to do to help Xanrym and expecting whatever is controlling the apparition to appear any moment, Theldrin readies Magic Missile. He stands ready for anything hostile to appear out of the water.
(OOC: note that unless I missed an action where someone else dragged Xanrym out of the water, he is still in the water at this point.
Syllen was grappled by Xanrym last round, and they both ended up in the water. Syllen used Misty Step to escape the grapple and get out of the water this round, but unless something else moves Xanrym out of the water before then, he will be starting his turn in the water just north of the Oceanbridge.
I'll post again once Khessa and Avery finish their turns.)
Khessa warns her adventuring companions: "Stop attacking what you're seeing! This thing you see in front of you is... just that: an apparition! It's probably there to distract us while the real threat comes! Plus, something is dangerous about the water; no one can be in it! Let's save Xanrym and get out of here as soon as possible!"
At this point, if she can touch Xanrym without entering the water, she does so and firmly pronounces esoteric abjuration formulas[[ OOC: No immediate effect, but Xanrym should at least have Advantage on his next save to snap out of it ]]. If Xanrym is too far away, she calls Anator from his pocket dimension, intending to transmit the spell via his brother's touch [[ OOC: Which, however, can only happen the following round ]].
if she can touch Xanrym without entering the water
(OOC: I think that she should be able reach Xanrym. He's in the water but in the square adjacent to the Oceanbridge. Since we know that the Oceanbridge is no more than 2-ft above the water level, that should put him within the the 5-ft reach of anyone on the Oceanbridge who's in one of the squares adjacent to his.)
No attacks then, he has no ranged weapons, and heavy armor doesn't do well in water
(@Aaggie - Since Xanrym is in the water right next to the Oceanbridge, he should also be close enough for Avery to try to grab and drag out of the water without getting in the water himself. As long as Xanrym is Charmed by the monster, he'll probably need to be physically restrained to prevent him from going to welcome the thing with open arms.)
Xanrym was holding onto Syllen when they fell in the water, just north of the Oceanbridge, and splashing noisily. But then Syllen suddenly just wasn't there.
Xanrym's face looses some of its frenzied mania as he looks around in confusion for a moment. He spots Syllen up on the Oceanbridge again, and while he treads water, he says, "Oh! I'm sorry, Syllen...what came over me?" But then his eyes go wide as he tries to look down into the dark water, "Wha..?! Something touched my leg!" And then his head suddenly goes under the water. His hands splash above the water for moment, and he surfaces just long enough to gasp, "Help!", and take a gulp of air before he vanishes completely under the water.
The combination of the blood from the slain Merrows and the glare of Khessa's Light reflecting off of the surface of the Sullen Sea make it difficult to see anything clearly in the murky water.
(OOC: @Charwoman_Gene - I don't know whether Coriana's head was below or above water when Xanrym went under. He's way out at the very edge of her Light's range, so I'm not sure whether she'd be able to see him even if she was underwater.
From a side-chat with the DM, I expect that if anyone wants to look for Xanrym next round, they'll need to make a successful Perception check to spot him.)
I’m going to give y’all a little while to have a think about your next moves before taking the monster’s next turn. Because this situation could become somewhat dire, and I want everyone to feel they had ample opportunity to plan before rushing in.
(OOC: Presumably Xanrym would have let go of the rope we were using in case anyone fell off the bridge, but Syllen might have held onto it as he was grappled... if so would Xanrym maybe have a chance to grab it?)
(OOC: Good question. No, Xanrym did not grab the rope as he disappeared beneath the surface of the water. Perhaps he just panicked and forgot about the rope, but Xanrym is not currently holding onto the rope. I assume that that fact would be clear to the rest of The Company since the rope is slack and probably floating on the Syllen Sea.)

Just a confirmation: Khessa managed to cast Protection from Evil and Good on Xanrym, right? She didn't have to summon Anator...
Yep confirmed.
