Just a note to start. Usually if you want to reroll a skill check someone else has made, I rule that you have to be proficient in that skill. Otherwise everyone can just roll for every check, which becomes tedious and pointless.
However, when you hit the wall with your hammer, it moves. Swaying in the cave. As though it’s not made of rock at all but cloth… it IS made of cloth. When you hit it some dirt falls off and you see the tan fabric underneath. Someone has put this up here to make it look like a wall, but you could push right through.

(OOC: Got it. Thanks for the clarification.)

Xanrym takes out his 3 lb. hammer to demonstrate the sound of tapping on the stone or earthen wall. He had intended to explain that a hidden compartment will normally sound different since it's not solid earth or stone but just wood disguised with cement or mud to look like a natural wall. (He had heard a story about someone finding a cleverly-concealed door into an ancient dwarven kingdom that way.) But when Xanrym tries to tap the wall, he nearly drops the hammer when he feels no resistance and the whole wall sways. He stares in surprise and then pushes on the cloth with his hand. "Well," he says, "who would have thought?! It's just a sort of drape covered in mud." He bends down to lift up the cloth and let the others through.

Theldrin lets out a low whistle as the curtain lifts to reveal the chest. "How odd..." he mutters, raising the light dagger to examine the area more closely. "Could be trapped..." he muses thoughtfully with a frown as he looks at the others.

Xanrym nods: "Agreed. That looks like a lot of treasure...unless it's some sort of trap. Or...maybe Misha's cult doesn't carry any coin because they've given all of their life savings over to the cult. And if they've also been killing and robbing anyone who stays at the Inn..." Xanrym wonders how long the cult has been murdering travelers at this inn to accumulate this much treasure.
It also makes Xanrym worried. "And if it's not a trap," he says, "I don't think that I'd rely on the safety of a few secret doors to protect it. Avery, could you keep watch in the main chamber? I feel that there must be some other guardian protecting the treasure down in these tunnels. We just haven't met it yet." That is, now that Xanrym is in the alcove, he's hoping that Avery or Liarin will keep watch on the other tunnels leading away from the chamber the way they came and to the north and south.
While the others are going thorugh the chest, Avery, you hear shuffling and scrapping sounds coming from the passage to the south. Accompanied by a soft gurgling.

Since Theldrin already caries one potion of healing, Xanrym takes one potion and hands Liarin the other. He hands Theldrin the scrolls for now since he cannot even read two of them, and he doesn't think that he'll need to cast disguise self while they're still exploring the tunnels under the Inn. If they have time, he'll separate out the gems first to put in his pouch. It's always good to have small, valuable items in case they need to run for it!
Xanrym carries an empty sack for carrying any treasure that he comes across, but he says that the sack isn't big enough to hold this much treasure unless they separate out most of the copper pieces and leave them behind. He suggests just carrying the whole chest back to the secret meeting room with the barred door.
(OOC: I assume that by the time they've done that much, Avery is about to alert us to whatever is approaching.
@Charwoman_Gene - don't forget to add a potion of healing to Liarin's inventory if you want it. Otherwise, we should probably give it to Avery.)
Liarin takes one of the healing potions, saying, "We'll work out the spoils later, but I'll hold on to this for now." She then turns her attention to the noise to the south.

"Splendid!" Theldrin takes the scrolls with an enthusiastic smile, but cuts his examination of them short once he becomes aware of something approaching.
Just as you're dividing the spoils from the chest, two creatures appear run out of the cavern to the south. With razor sharp teeth and jagged black claws, midnight blue skin and pupil-less eyes, the creatures let out a screech that pierces the soul. The smell of decay is strong now and the smell of rotten human flesh emanates form the ghoul's mouths. Rolling initiative for all.

Xanrym picks up his crossbow and squeezes past Theldrin. In the cramped space, he tries to make room for the wizard to fight, and he reluctantly takes a spot at the start of the north tunnel so that Theldrin can get out of the alcove. Xanrym raises his crossbow, but as the stench of the ghouls hits him. He casts Vicious Mockery and says, "Ugh! What died in here? Oh, it's you! And it's about to happen again!"

"Say the word and I can protect one of you from undead with the scroll we found," Theldrin calls out as he steps up behind Avery. He then lowers his tone as he whispers arcane incantations. Shadows dance off the cavern walls as he moves the light dagger and his free hand in a complex series of gestures, then thunder suddenly throughout the tunnels.

Damage: 11 CON 14 Save for half damage.
War Caster:
You have advantage on CON saving throws that you make to maintain your concentration on a spell when you take damage. You can perform the somatic components of spells even when you have weapons or a shield in one or both hands. You can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack to cast a spell that has a casting time of 1 action and targets only that creature.
Sculpt Spells:
When you cast an evocation spell that affects other creatures that you can see, you can choose a number of them equal to 1 + the spell’s level. The chosen creatures automatically succeed on their saving throws against the spell, and they take no damage if they would normally take half damage on a successful save.

The curtain lifts up and behind it is a dingy little nook with a large wooden chest in it. You can see gold and gems overflowing out of it.

The chest is not trapped. Inside you find quite a hoard of treasure:
62gp, 1,124sp, and 1865cp.
Gems: Citrine , 2 Zircon , 3 Jasper , 2 Quartz , and a Moonstone . All of these are worth 50gp each.
Theres also 2 Potion of Healing , as well as 3 Spell Scroll . These each have a single spell on them: Protection from Evil and Good , Misty Step , and Disguise Self .
While the others are going thorugh the chest, Avery, you hear shuffling and scrapping sounds coming from the passage to the south. Accompanied by a soft gurgling.

Group 1 is up.
Also I hope this map communicates how cramped and narrow it is in these caverns.
Avery attacks a ghoul with a thrust of his great sword: Attack: 23 Damage: 5

Avery and the shifted Liarin start tearing into the ghouls, tearing chunks out of them as they advace with their claws and teeth. Both attacks hit.
Xanrym up
Also just personally it’s so cool that liarin is a moon Druid, I’ve never ran for one before.
