Avery sniffs himself and wrinkles his nose, "Aye, It may already be too late for that. Definitely will need a bath and wash this gear to get the Trog smell off. I'll go second through the door."
Liarin doesn't hear anything outside the trapdoor. She's quite sure that with her heightened animal like senses, she would know if there was someone up there.
Liarin opens the trap door and tries to move up and through as quickly as possible, intending to shift into dire wolf form if she encounters obvious hostilities.

You come back out into Misha's apartment, and find no one. It seems like they haven't been guarding in here. You see the north door is still closed leading back out to the hallway with the statues. There was also another door leading to the west, you haven't been through there yet.
I'll put up a map in a little bit so you can actually have a better idea of what you've explored.
(OOC: Seeing FEET on that map, it just occurred to me to check the scale. I've been assuming 5' squares, but I remember that D&D 1e usually used 10' squares on their maps.)
Xanrym loads a crossbow bolt and whispers, "Do you suppose that they've gone out on a raid into Orlane again? Or they just assume that the monsters in the cellar must have finished us off?"
When the party is ready to move on, Xanrym asks, "Which way, do you think? Back through to the other side of the chapel? Or (north) straight up the hall of golden statues to that door Theldrin saw earlier?" Xanrym votes for the latter just because they're already familiar with the hall of alcoves and golden statues. It'll also make it easier for Avery or Liarin to keep the cultists from swarming past them to get at Xanrym and Theldrin.
Yeah the scale is actually 10ft, only just noticed that myself. I'll do some research on the best way to run combat on a 10ft grid for future fights.
(OOC: Doh! Yeah, I guess it just didn't occur to me after a year of playing in 5e modules, like Lost Mine of Phandelver. If you can shrink the character tokens or zoom in on the map, we should be able to figure it out. Each square is 10'x10', so we just have imagine them subdivided into four 5'x'5' squares.
I'm just happy because it means that Liarin will be able to use her Large-sized wild shapes without penalty in these "1 square" hallways. Xanrym definitely votes for heading north next since dire wolf Liarin can effectively prevent melee opponents in that hallway from getting to the others all by herself.)
Ok, so you're going through the door at the north end of the temple. What's your marching order? Is someone scouting ahead? Are you trying to be stealthy?
Ok, so you're going through the door at the north end of the temple. What's your marching order? Is someone scouting ahead? Are you trying to be stealthy?
Have we opened the door to the north yet? If not, Xanrym whispers, "Someone should listen at the door? Any sign of guards on the other side?"
Regarding their plan as they leave the safety of this room, Xanrym asks, "We should assume that everyone we meet will be a hostile cultist, right? And if so, Liarin, do you plan to transform into a wolf now so that you can lead the way? Or will you wait to transform until we're attacked?"
Xanrym quickly offers a few ideas for how to proceed.
Option 1 (Wild Shape + Stealth):
Liarin-Wolf (taking the whole 10' width of the hallway)
Xanrym and Theldrin (side-by-side)
Avery (rear guard)
If Liarin is a dire wolf, she'll take up the whole hallway while fighting, and Avery will have to spend the entire first round just dashing past his allies to get out in front of Liarin anyway. Therefore, the party could leave 5 - 10' between each rank, putting Avery (and his noisy armor) at least 30' behind the front of the line. That may give Liarin-wolf a better a better chance of using stealth to sneak up on any inattentive cultist.
Option 2 (No stealth and waiting to wild shape until there's a fight):
Avery and Liarin (side-by-side)
Theldrin
Xanrym (rear guard)
If Liarin is not in wild shape already, then we could use this modified marching order that puts both Avery and Liarin up front. Not much chance of being stealthy, but if we expect everything to be hostile, maybe that's not really a problem. It does leave us more vulnerable to attack from behind once we pass the door to the chapel.
Option 3 (Xanrym scouting, the rest follow):
Xanrym
Gap of 30'+
Liarin & Avery (side-by-side)
Theldrin
Xanrym scouts ahead (best stealth and Thieves' Tools, but unfortunately poor perception). The rest follow a little farther back. If Xanrym stumbles into a fight, he'll just try to disengage and fall back behind Liarin and Avery.
You march forward, Liarin and Avery in front. You walk through the hallway with the harvest statues, nothing comes at you, nor do you find anything out of place. You head around the corner, open the door, and find a staircase leading to the second level of the temple.
Do you go up the stairs?

Liarin climbs the ladder and listens at the door. Perception: 10

All right, i'll have Liarin roll a Perception check to listen at the trapdoor.
And you're going up the trapdoor you came in correct?
Yes I think that's the plan.
Great, just a Perception roll from Liarin then.
I think that you missed post #905 above. 🙂
Oh of course.

"I'm definitely curious as to where that door leads," Theldrin replies with a raised eyebrow.
(OOC: Ah the good ole days, 10 foot squares and one minute rounds LOL)
Side note-I will be out of town until Sunday evening

Theldrin would vote for Option 2, and to have Liarin listen at the door if possible.
Alright let's go with that.
