... (OOC: If Khessa was able to maintain concentration on the spell, the 10 (lightning) damage is still relevant this round.) ...
Khessa's Concentration: 18
You're right, my bad, Khessa had to roll - but she was able to keep her concentration! So, all happens as narrated - and the swarms are probably history, by now.
Note that the post with the "Manipulated" warning was not edited - so there was no manipulation at all; it is just an annoying bug that comes out every now and then (and that I have reported already, by the way... but the staff will probably never fix it).
Assuming that the last spider swarm was destroyed, Xanrym holds up his torch and looks around this cabin to see whether there are any other monstrous spiders here or any survivors from the original crew. If he doesn't see any immediate threats, Xanrym would take a minute to check any features of interest to see whether there's anything valuable in this cabin or anything that might tell them more about Krell or the "horrors below."
(OOC: I suspect that Syllen may want to move directly to the next fight while he still has his current Starry Form. Does anyone need healing before we proceed? I'm assuming that there's the main deck up top and at least one crew's deck below that before we reach the ship's hold.)
(OOC: Seems like our d20 is still stuck on its nat-1 streak. Well, hopefully there were no other creatures waiting to pounce!)
Xanrym looks around and then, looking startled, jumps back. He says, "Look out!", and casts a Poison Spray at some shadowy shape that he he thought was another spider, but it was presumably obvious to everyone else that it was just a pile of web-entangled refuse in a dark corner of the cabin. Shaken and somewhat embarrassed, Xanrym takes a few moments to calm down.
(OOC: I suspect that Syllen may want to move directly to the next fight while he still has his current Starry Form. Does anyone need healing before we proceed? I'm assuming that there's the main deck up top and at least one crew's deck below that before we reach the ship's hold.)
(OOC: Given that I can get back a use of starry form on a short rest Syllen would be good with taking a short rest given that we can do it in 5 minutes if I remember right. Also if @drumdigby does not feel that the Inspiring Leader Feat breaks the 5 minute sort rest Syllen can give everyone back the Temp HP on a short rest.)
Khessa jumps and in a moment she has a mote of fire in hand to hurl at the threat 'spotted' by Xanrym... but detecting the false alarm, she lets the magical flames die down and smiles at the other: "Perhaps a breather will do us all some good - it will calm our nerves and allow us to descend more prepared to face whatever awaits us down there!"
The blonde arcane warrior estimates that it might just take her a moment to no longer feel the numerous (but fortunately superficial) spider bites received from the chitinous horde and therefore worries about Coriana: "How are you, fierce fellow blade? I saw that you fought as long as you had an ounce of blood in your body... I was afraid those Lolth lackeys would tear you to pieces in the end. And unfortunately, I still have to finish getting used to fighting on ships... the rolling of the wreck made me miss my target an embarrassing number of times - I was sorry I couldn't help you better".
“Given that we do not know what is down below I agree that it might be best to take a second.” Looking at Khessa. "Now that you are warmed up you will have a great opportunity to finish off what every is left below us."
Syllen will take a moment to see if he notices anything in the room of importance.
"An opportunity I will gladly seize!" Khessa smiles at Syllen. "Of Lolth and her armies, nothing must remain here on Oerth - not even their foul stench! That weaver of pain will have to content herself with catching flies in the Abyss - and leave the common folk alone!"
Theldrin tenses up when Xanrym cries out, immediately getting ready to fire his crossbow, then relaxes with a sigh of relief. He leans back against the cabin wall and looks around at the group to make sure everyone is okay, before musing out loud with a pensive frown, "So... it sounds like we may find Krell below then...hmmm."
(OOC: A short rest for Arcane Recovery will be good before facing Krell, up for taking it now or seeing what's next depending on what's best for everyone)
(OOC: Per @drumdigby - we can take one "action short rest" per day, which only takes 5 minutes. Otherwise, it's just regular one-hour short rests. Given the size of the ship, I do not expect that we'll get an opportunity to take a one-hour rest. So, it's just a question of when to take that Action Short Rest. Personally, I'd rather wait a little longer before taking the Action Short Rest.
Xanrym does not have any features that recharge on a short rest yet, but I'm fine with taking the Action Short Rest now if everyone else wants it. If we take the Action Short Rest now, we will probably have to make it through all of the lower deck(s) of the ship without another chance to rest. That might stretch our healing resources since we wouldn't be able to spend HD on healing.
Instead of taking the Action Short Rest now, I was thinking that Coriana could drink a healing potion, and Khessa could burn one Second Wind usage. That should basically put everyone at max HP. We'd just have to conserve spell slots and rely more on cantrips until we find Krell. We could try to go down to the next deck while Syllen's current use of Starry Form is active. If we don't encounter Krell, hopefully it's just clearing out spiders or some zombies or something like that. Syllen's luminous arrow attack was very effective against the spider swarms. If we could make it through another 1 or 2 spider fights, then we would fall back to one of the main deck cabins and take the 5-min Action Short Rest. Coriana would regain all of her spell slots, Khessa would get the Second Wind usage back, Syllen would his Wild Shape usage back, and Theldrin could use Arcane Recovery. And, after another fight with a bunch of spiders, more of us might be injured and wanting the Action Short Rest so that we can spend HD on healing.)
"The name is 'Lolth' - but I'm glad you know her so little that you get her name wrong," Khessa sighs in reply to Coriana. "It will be a great day for me when her cursed name can be forgotten by all."
"I don't know a whole lot about her..." the blonde arcane warrior admits, "but I do know that she's a disgusting spider-demoness who lives in the Abyss and who has convinced the Drow, elves who live underground like worms, to worship her as a goddess. My knowledge of the subject comes from the reason I find myself here, walking the world in armor and brandishing a greatsword, instead of holding a hoe in my hand and showing a smile on my face, while growing cabbage with my family. A drow raid. They razed Twardens, the hamlet we lived in. They enslaved the inhabitants. They stole everything they could. They killed those they couldn't take. They bdestroyed what they couldn't steal."
"In those conditions, that of a slave of black skinned elves with an even blacker heart, I had a long time to familiarize myself with their culture," the tall adventuress's blue eyes harden at the memory. "Until one day, I managed to escape (and, ironically, even though I managed to free and take many with me, my family was not among them - it was too far away) - and now I am here."
After the explanation, Khessa tries to distract herself with less painful thoughts and moves closer to examine the charts and maps that are intact that cover the table.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that, Khessa, you seem a decent person. My trauma is much more self-inflicted.” Coriana, you know, the one with navigation experience , looks over the charts as well. Anyone going over the charts with her can tell however that while she gets the basics, she’s not really gifted at it. (She’s proficient, but limited by a not great intelligence score.)
[[We need a decision on the rest. Coriana votes for pressing on, if she can have a minute to commune with an eldritch sea entity of unknown motivations. She can get back one spell slot and if anyone can lend her a potion she’d appreciate it.]]
[[Votes to forgo the rest: 1 Coriana.]]

Aprt from the webs that fill the room, the weathered furniture here is worthless, but the table is still covered with charts and maps that are intact.

In the meantime, the victory over the hated spider queen's forces strengthened the resolve of the blonde arcane warrior!
