(OOC: Yes, assuming that the initiative order is the same and that the monks go on the goblins' old turn, we should be on Avery's turn now at the start of the next round.)
The goblin dead, Xanrym looks back into the "meeting room" (room 13) and says, "Avery, can you help Liarin blockade that door?"
There's no enemies around you at the moment Avery. I think the plan is currently to block the door with the table in the room. I believe Xanrym was suggesting you use the Help action to give Liarin advantage in doing so.
But it is your turn so you decide what you want to do.
Liarin Struggles with the table, even with help. DC 8
(OOC: Oh! From Working Together: "The character who’s leading the effort — or the one with the highest ability modifier — can make an ability check with advantage." With something like helping another character perform sleight of hand, there's someone doing the task and a helper, who is probably just trying to distract the mark. But a strength-based task, I think that that if two people are working together, the stronger one is probably always "leading the effort." If Avery and one of the other characters are moving something heavy, I would expect that we'd always use Avery'sathletics check.)
I'd say you can use Liarin's roll but with Avery's athletics bonus. You manage to get the table in front of the door. You hear Jocelyn on the other side, "Don't bother trying to push it open, just bash down the door!"
You feel and hear thuds against the door, and the sound of wood breaking.
I'd say if Liarin and Avery hold the table in place, it will take them about 2 rounds to break through.
(OOC: I'm using the map from post #1045. AFAICT, the middle and right secret doors ("S" on the map) from room 15 are open. So is the door from room 14 to room 15.)
Theldrin moves quickly back into the meeting room (room 13) and through the door toward the torture chamber (room 14). As he moves through room 13, he says
in Common, "Hold the door, but tell us when they're about to break through."
in Elvish, he says, "Liarin, when the door gives, can you put a fire in their way? Theldrin, come with me!"
Since he has already stowed his crossbow, he gets out his bag of caltrops as he moves through the west door in room 13. That door opens in toward room 13, so Xanrym sprinkles caltrops just on the west side of the doorway (i.e., in the hall that leads to room 14). Once he and Theldrin step into that hallway, Xanrym whispers to Theldrin. "Grab a flask of oil from my backpack and spread it just here where I'm laying the caltrops. I can conceal it all with an illusion." Xanrym's face looks anxious, but he gives Theldrin a wicked grin and winks.
As he lays out the caltrops, Xanrym calls out to Liarin and Avery. "Hey!", he says, holding up a spiky caltrop and waving it the air for a moment, "Be careful when you come this way." Then he sets the caltrop down on the floor.
Xanrym's goal so that the DM understands what he's up to:
Xanrym wants to draw the cultists through the door from room 13 toward room 14. Liarin and/or Avery can block the cultists in the hallway so that they cannot get into melee range with Theldrin or Xanrym, letting them attack from range.
Just inside the doorway from 13 to 14, there will be a 5' x 5' area of caltrops and oil. If Theldrin gets ready to [Tooltip Not Found] as soon as one of them steps through the door toward room 14, the cultists would take fire damage as they go through the doorway. And if any of them steps on a caltrop, they'll definitely be stuck there (speed = 0) for the round, which means that any stuck cultist will also start his next round in the burning oil (possibly suffering 2 rounds of fire damage).
If the evil monks are really monks, then a caltrop can also slow them down, which nerfs their unarmored movement in case we do need to run away.
Movement: 30' moving back through the secret door and then through the western door of room 13 (leaving secret door open) Action: Spreading caltrops just on the west side of the door between rooms 13 and 14 Free Action: Object interaction: taking out caltrops. Talking.
I'd say if Liarin and Avery hold the table in place, it will take them about 2 rounds to break through.
(OOC: Everyone can talk this round, but I think that everyone's actions in the first round may already be set:
Avery - holding the table in place
Liarin - holding the table in place
Theldrin - hopefully spreading the oil (unless he has a better idea)
Xanrym - laying caltrops and being bossy
I'll go ahead and post Xanrym's next round action here in case @drumdigby wants to speed things along.)
If everything above is correct, then here's what Xanrym does in round 2:
Last round, Xanrym worked from west to east, ending in room 13. He would have pointed Theldrin to work the other way so that the wizard is backing toward room 14 and can position himself back down that hallway. Xanrym casts and illusion of a 5'x5' section of clear, normal floor just to the west of the door from room 13 to 14, concealing the oil and the caltrops. He says, "When they break through, Liarin, fall go through the door and defend Theldrin. Just remember to watch your step. We'll join up with you soon. Avery, with me." Then Xanrym moves back through the open secret door that leads from room 13 to room 15 and gets out his crossbow again.
Movement: 30' from the west door in room 13 and through the secret door in the south of room 13. He ends just inside the secret door, ready to close it. Action: Cast spell Minor Illusion to conceal the 5'x5' area of oil and caltrops Free Action: Talking. Item interaction: draw his crossbow.
Xanrym hopes that the monks just try to pursue Liarin and Theldrin and that the caltrops and fire will slow them down. That will give Xanrym and Avery the option of moving through room 15 to the other secret door to join the fight there or re-entering room 13 to attack the monks (and Jocelyn) from the rear.
If the monks split up and try to follow both groups, then Xanrym hopes that he and Avery can hold the secret door closed while Theldrin and Liarin finish off any monks that went through the west door. As soon as one group defeats their opponents, they can join the other fight and surround the monks.
"Xanrym! Are you asking for fire here or asking me to light the oil? I'm good either way!
Replying in Elvish as he races back through the meeting room (in the 2nd round), Xanrym says, "Theldrin's got the oil. I just thought that you might need to block that doorway with fire to slow them down once they break through."

The goblin drops to the ground, that particular magical barb was his last chance apparenly.
Now the only threat comes from Jocelyn and the monks to the north.
Liarin retreats into the room, shifting out of wolf form, closing and barring the door behind her.

I think you could roll an Athletics check to try and move the meeting table in front of the door. That would hold it a little while.
And then is Avery still up?

(OOC: If @drumdigby rules that we're using Avery's athletics check, it should still be with advantage since he'd be getting help from Liarin.)
