Vinn glances between the unopened boxes and the group preparing for the descent. "I'll go too-- give me a sec before you leave me," he says a bit nervously. "I can't wildshape into anything that swims yet, but I can hold my breath forever as I am now. That's pretty useful!"
The genasi brings his hands together and casts guidance on himself while cracking his knuckles. Drawing his scimitar, Vinn wedges the curved end between the corners of the boxes and tries to pry them open.
Vinn: Using the crowbar, you pull up the first of the random crates... It takes a minute, but the first crate pops open with ease.Reaching into the crate, You find mostly old tomes and scrolls ruined by the moisture. However, one leather scroll case contains a roll of thick parchment covered with some strange etherial glowing script that you cannot decipher. Whatever this scroll is, it seems completely unspoiled by time or moisture.
Morlock:
The moment Vinn pops open the crate you feelf an internal extrasensory vibration that was previously overshadowed by much greater power down in the hold.
Vinn:Moving on, you slide the crowbar into another random crate and crack it open.... but the other random four crates you choose have nothing of value in them.
Vinn narrows his eyes and turns the leather scroll case over in his hands a few times, hoping the glowing script might become clearer like it was a child's illusionary toy. He shakes it, taps it against his hand, and then shrugs, tossing it to whoever in the group shows interest. "Boring!" he declares with disappointment. "Maybe the real good stuff is underneath. I'm ready to go whenever you all are."
Morlock would look through the crate that triggered the feeling.
Investigation: 24
He would also take the scroll case (if Vinn doesn't)
The feeling came specifically from the scroll. It radiates with magic from the school of enchantment, though it seems primarily divine in nature, not arcane.

Using Sir Beauregard's rope as a lead, Augustus climbs down into the cold water, followed by Vinn(who quickly realizes he can't see a damn thing down here, but manages to cling onto the rope and Augustus's shoulder for guidance...). Sir Beauregard follows directly behind, creating a bit of a bottleneck at the bottom of the rope...
Above them, on the Lower Deck:
Morlock: Seeing the darkness in the hold below, you cast Dancing Lights creating four balls of shifting light that descend into the water below...
Ziegler:You're about to go in, when...
You hear something on the deck above... Hard to hear detail with the wax in your ears, but you definitely get the sense that you now have company on the main deck.
Meanwhile, back in the hold below:
Vinn: Your attention is drawn to four magical lights suddenly descending into the water from behind you... They don't cast a ton of illumination. So you aren't able to see the entirety of the hold you're in... but you're able to at least see the rope you're holding and the two companions on either side of you as you continue down to the sea floor.
Augustus&Sir Beauregard: Your darkvision enables you to observe the strange undersea world around you. Seaweed grows over the shattered hull, especially around the gaping hole in the stern of the ship. Tiny fish dart among hunks of debris and cargo. On the other side of the hull breach, beyond the range of your darkvision, you still sense shapes moving in the darkness.. Whether they are standard denizens of the reef or something far more sinister, you can't tell.
Scanning the floor of the hull, you spot a heavy iron chest laying on the ground directly below the hole you entered through.

Ziegler will go under the water enough to help look around, but will be fairly close to the opening in case he needs to get a breath and/or help anyone/anything get back up.
As Vinn dives deeper into the sunken hold with the party, he realizes just how dark it is. Grasping the rope and what he believes is Augustus' shoulder, panic starts to bubble within him as the last bit of light vanishes. Floating in complete darkness feels strange, and if not for his familiarity with levitating, he would have missed the comfort of solid ground beneath him. Vinn tries to speak, but the depths swallow his voice, and only bubbles escape, rising and disappearing. This is so much worse than the zombies... and then he starts to wonder about swimming zombies! (Could the fish be zombies too?)
Suddenly, Vinn sees bright lights and squints, realizing they are dancing orbs that someone cast. Instinctively, he lets go of Augustus to grasp one, but his hand passes through only water. He quickly goes back to gripping the dwarf's shoulder when he realizes they can't be held.
Vinn suppresses the need for a deep breath and tries to follow along with the group.
As Augustus descends into the water. he closes his eyes opens his mouth, allowing the water to fill his lungs. Vinn, with his hand on Augustus' shoulder, can feel him breathe in once and then continue downward as the water seems to pull Augustus deeper without his arms or legs moving much. If the chest is within 40 feet of where they entered, Augustus will place a hand on top of Vinn's to guide him and pull him with if he'd like to follow. Under the water, Augustus' form has shifted again to that of a drowned man and his hand is freezing to the touch. As he nears the chest, Augustus will inspect the outside and its immediate surrounding as best he can.
Sir Beauregard holds the rope and stays near the surface so he can lift his head above the water when he needs to take a breath, watching as Augustus approaches the chest.
Augustus guides Vinn along to the chest, but suddenly feel him buck away in fear as the dwarf's form changes to reflect his sunken nature... Staying focused, Augustus is able to zero in on the chest and examine its exterior. Once Vinn settles his nerves and the dancing lights bring their illumination into the hold, he's able to do the same.
The chest is constructed of heavy metal. It's covered in barnacles and coral. Any lock or protective mechanism has corroded into non-existence, but the crusted sediment holds it shut. (Give me a Strength check to open, with advantage if you have a tool). Looking up, you see that the chest must have fallen through the hole that you passed through, which seems to extend up into the main deck as well. Looking around you see that anything else that might have once been in this hold has long since been claimed by the living reef.
Suddenly a sound reverberates through the water... Beastial, high pitched... hard to distinguish beyond that. The ease with which sound travels down here makes its distance is indiscernible... but whatever it is, it's unsettling.
Sir Beauregard and Ziegler:
Based on your proximity to the surface, you sense that the sound is coming from somewhere above the water line... Somewhere close.
Morlock:
Your Detect Magic spell keys in on the chest as the source of the powerful necromantic magic you've been sensing... but just as you come to that realization, the spell's duration comes to an end and the connection it has to your senses quickly flickers out.

With his free hand, the knight makes a claw gesture to Ziegler and then opens his hand palm downward and slowly moves it downward. Then he pulls his way up the rope so he is just under the water and peers up to see what is up there.

Augustus will happily lend his crowbar to Vinn if he needs it! (Mechanically offers advantage to strength checks to open stuff)
"I'd help, friend Vinn, but I'm not very strong, " Ziegler says.
Vinn happily takes the crowbar. "Thanks Augustus! And don't worry Z-- you've been taking a beating all day with these monsters. Just rest a little."
Vinn tries to open the boxes and barrels again.
