The three adventurers Petnan, Darbakh and Ral head out into the forest. They come to an archway along the path that continues into the forest and they proceed through. The group talk amongst themselves about what to expect and really don't notice they've been magically moved through the forest. The path continues for a bit and they move into a little clearing. Out from behind you attack 4 goblins and a goblin boss before you know what's going on. The owl hanging back a bit for some reason doesn't notice anything until it's too late.
The Adventure is on.
Roll initiative please.
OOC - I'm going to try the BDD Map and the encounter builder. This is a predetermined surprise encounter.

You can use the character sheet to roll which will add it to the game log or use formatted rolls here like I did above. Sometimes the roller is down when doing by text so you have to use the sheet to complete the roll.
If you go back into a post that has rolls in it, it will reroll the dice again. It's best to quote the post and put edits below the quote.
I'll use red for ooc and blue for most other things or black for non-verbal.
Once initiatives are added I'll do the surprise attack then start the initiative order by init rolls.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Darbakh’s initiative: 20
(OOC: are The rest of you getting notifications for posts in this thread? I’m getting notifications for our DMs, but not for the threat even though I unsubscribed and then subscribed again)
OOC - I haven't started the encounter just yet off of the bdd site. Once I get all the initiatives in, I'll start it up and I'll send a link to the encounter.
I ust started the encounter and posted a link in the PM thread.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Darbakh takes a clean strike from the goblins but stares them down stoically. "You call fighting? You're a disgrace to gobboes everywhere!" he bellows at the boss.
Darbakh attacks the goblin boss twice, ignoring all the others.
if there is the ability to cast sleep and NOT impact our own members I rolled a 18 for sleep HP. If I am unable to sleep without risking putting party members to sleep accidentally I cast Eldritch blast on the boss if boss is dead then cast on one of the other goblins
attack roll: 19 +5 = 24
damage 1+3 =4
ooc are you all seeing the rolls I’m making from my character sheet?
So looks like only three goblins left. So if the sleeps spell works then it would put to sleep two of the three as it would sleep 18 Hp and only one goblin left
also unsure if I am to mark up the goblins on the combat tracker. And if I am (to mark) do I just give two of them 7 Hp of damage each to signify they are out of combat? As I did not see way to mark them out of combat because of sleep

Darbakh attacks the Goblin boss only to somehow see Goblin A take his place on the first swing and Goblin A is sliced in half crumbling to the ground. Darbakh not deterred retrains his sword on the Goblin boss again and is successful and cutting it's head off.
Petnan see 2 goblins facing Ral and realizes he can't get B and the other two C and D all in one sleep spell casts on C and D. Both fall to sleep at Ral's feet.
Unconscious
Here are the details of the condition taken from the Player’s Handbook, page 292:
An unconscious creature is incapacitated, can’t move or speak, and is unaware of its surroundings.
The creature drops whatever it is holding and falls prone.
The creature automatically fails Strength and Dexterity saving throws.
Attack rolls against the creature have an advantage.
Any attack that hits the creature is a critical hit if the attacker is within 5 feet of the creature.
ooc - Petnan mark the spell slot used please.
Ral has init.
Ral attacks without rage.
MOVE: Ral Is next to Goblin C and D who are now asleep. He moves to engage Gobin B flanking to gain advantage and adjust distance as needed to stay in the fight up to 30ft; (spending 30 feet of movement; first diagonal costs 5 ft. of movement, second costs 10 ft., third costs 5 ft., etc.) BONUS:
ACTION:Ral Target Goblin B first then next available:Attack: 21 Damage: 14 (Bludgeoning)
End of turn!
Reaction:Attacks of opportunity.

Ral misses even with advantage and now Goblin B knows he's in a pickle.
Goblin B takes the Disengage as a bonus action and moves 30ft back into the forest.
Unless someone has the ability to have an attack of opportunity that supercedes the Disengage rules. I'll advance to the next round.

Darbakh has init this round. Goblin B is moving in the forest to get away. 35 ft east/right on the map.
Goblin C and D are unconscious

and 8 points of damage if hits
(OOC: good question from Cala; will our ranged attacks be at disadvantage? Darbakh has a cantrip, but I’ll roll it at disadvantage if necessary)
In the meantime, Runok, Darbakh’s owl, lands on one of the unconscious goblins and flaps its wings in some weird display of dominance.
