So we were supposed to use dash but because we didn’t we was locked into an impossible encounter because of which a PC died…
Certainly not impossible and I'm just saying that's what the spell is for. Using any spell draws the attention of creatures whose main feature is detecting magic. If you used the spell to your benefit there would have been no encounter at all. As it is, the spell cost a resource, attracted monsters and it's benefits went largely unused.
But fighting every creature in the caverns would probably be impossible in practical terms, even with very favorable die rolls.
Sparhawk hands koselog a healing potion. “Take this as well or save it. Let’s press on for now. We can take a rest in a bit and recover more. With smaller numbers, we will need to be careful.”
Back on #951 I posted a random marching order. Are we keeping with that?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Koselig drinks the healing potion when it's given to him, it heals for 7 hp.
"Thanks, that helps too!"

— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
“Great, we got trouble! I’ll engage it in hand to hand, you boys stay back (more than 30 feet) and hit it from range, and if it gets closer, don’t look at it.” (I’m going last so back up if needed, aura of protection should help if needed. )

As the basilisk emerged in front of the group a grey blue female of elven form almost shimmers behind them, almost passing without a trac, but in no way hiding from the group…
Tatsat isn’t sure why anyone would want to engage a basilisk hand to hand, except one who enjoys serpentine Allies, but presumes there must be some reasons for their heroics.. they inch forward, considering helping the group, as they seem also to be in a similar situation as she: trapped, and looking for a way out of this torture chamber of nightmares…
(Awaiting dm instructions on what the stat rolling rules are then will finalize build and spells and roll initiative!)
tatsat is a medium sized elven female, who prides herself on cleanliness and having a keen understanding of how to get out of troubling situations. She wears armor covering her upper half, and holds a shield with a large gazing eye on the front which seems to somehow stare at you no matter where in its sight you stand.
Captain Sparhawk is a large imposing man wearing a full set of polished battle-scared plate mail. A gold lion head is embossed on the armor's chest plate. (A symbol of the god, Marduk). He looks like a half-orc yet has some characteristics of a bugbear, including very long limbs. A black cloak, with a curious gold Kraken clasp and thin strings of gold trim rests on his shoulders, obscuring what lies beneath. He has black hair with hints of gray and hard steel-blue eyes.
He glances at the elf "I am glad you have come. Hit it from range if you can."
(How much room do we have to retreat?, can we have the layout of the cavern/ tunnel area. Sparhawk plans to avert his gaze and block the creature from advancing, while the rest pelt it from range)
The air next to Captain Sparhawk begins to shimmer and twist, then with a loud, distracting pop, a small geometric shape appears, floating in midair. The speck begins to unfold and grow, until it becomes a very tall, slender figure with blue skin. You can’t quite catch most of their features, as they look around, see the Basilisk, and yelp in surprise “Holy hells! What is THAT thing?!” In an airy, breathy voice.
Their hands reach out towards the hostile creature as they step back, and you notice they seem to be an elf, except for the fact their skin is a bright, baby blue. Their fingers begin to twist and wiggle, and swirling multicolored magic appears on their fingertips.
Initiative: 9
OOC: I’m on mobile RN and figured that everyone’s looking (or intentionally not looking) at the basilisk so I doubt they’d see much of Meerwin. Once the battle is over I’ll add more description.

I figured 40ft was the maximum you could possibly see it from so I rolled for it and it hit the max distance.
The Basilisk spots you and approaches. It looks intimidating as it lurxhes forward on its eight legs. It emits a gutteral growl that sounds like a clicking scraping noise as it shakes violently.
Intimidation -1 vs Sparhawk.
<This is a new rule from 2024 PHB. Mm isn't out yet, so no idea if they will allow this action for monsters, but it tells me what Stat to use. More likely it generates a flat DC instead of a roll and let's a player roll. For now, it says the higher of a 15 or the creature's isn't, so on a 15, Sparhawk receives the frightened condition. Otherwise, there is no mechanical effect, but the distance is now 20ft. >
<To the new players: That's a lake behind you there, BTW. It's full of fish and crabs and at least a few dwarf-eating monsters that see magic. I don't know how you got across, but possibly you just swam and aren't very magic. They would see magical objects. I'm ignoring all of this for the moment as they're still busy feeding.>

“Dallas, you mind taking point?” Sparhawk asks. "Koselig, I suggest you stay back until we heal you further."
From behind a stalagmite 40ft ahead, a basilisk emerges.
Basilisk initiative = 14

Waiting on Dallas, also I think we have one or two more players joining.

Oh and there's a boat on the shore that goes to the tunnels labeled 6 and 7. For anyone who can see magic, the boat is magic.
