“Sounds like they went this way, but I can’t get the door to budge. We may have to take the other route and see where it lets us out, unless someone else wants to give it a try.” Darien steps back from the door looking to Grikiltha and Drako, seeming a bit frustrated by the setback but determined to see things out despite it.
”I’m not much good with jammed doors. But I see excellent in the dark, so have no issues with you using the Goggles, Drako.”
[adding 16 silver and 90 copper]
“Nigel, you seem to love learning about, well everything. Did you want to analyze the chunks of gold until we can sell them back at the town? If it’s alright, I’ll take the 2 remaining silver to donate at the shrine of luck.”
"Well I can certainly give the door a go if you want but I'm not it will do any good." Grikiltha grabs the gold chunks. "How about we analyze these after the place is secure."
"Your assesment is accurate Pinja. Knowledge is the path to power. Drako as usual your strategy is sound. It would be most advantageous for you to wield this item."
As Nigel speaks he peruses the bars. After Lifting, Measuring and performing some calculations he says confidently. "I'd say there is about 100gp worth of bars here. But we should proceed quickly if we are to pursue the trespassers before they have time to cover their tracks. Speaking of which, this dirt floor seems like it should make tracking our subjects easier. Does anybody possess the skill requires to follow those tracks?"
With the combined strength of Grikiltha's muscles and Drako's thaumaturgy, the southeastern door is pushed open with a resounding creak. The heavy door gives way, revealing the next chamber of the mine.
Whoever steps inside can see that this area (M8) is being used for storing equipment. The walls are lined with racks holding various tools, including picks, shovels, and wheelbarrows. However, these tools have also been used to haphazardly barricade the door.
MINE FEATURES
All tunnels and caverns in the mine are hewn from rock that has thin veins of gold ore running through it. Other common features are described below.
Ceilings. Ceilings throughout are 8 feet high and braced at regular intervals by wooden pilasters and beams.
Doors. All doors are made of wood with iron hinges and handles. The doors are fitted with locks, but none of them are locked. The keys needed to unlock and lock them are gone.
Light. Oil lanterns hang from ceiling hooks in every room and tunnel.
‘Hmm, I’ve never used that spell for this purpose. Great thinking Drako. And impressive strength, Grikiltha.’ Pinja will follow after Drako and Grikiltha into the space [if they go in. She won’t be the first, so if no one goes in neither will she. The fading bite marks have made her a bit more cautious], scouring the dark corners with her sharp cat eyes.
"The stairs lead upwards in the same direction as this tunnel. Is there any way we could have a guard or eye of some sort to make sure they can't come from behind us?" he asks, ready to press on down the tunnel.
As the group moves past the equipment storage area, they notice the oil lanterns have been rendered useless by crossbow bolts embedded in them. The darkness that envelops the mine poses no issue for those with darkvision or those taking advantage of the light cantrip. Nigel, with the help of Don-Jon, remains vigilant, ensuring that no dangers approach from the rear.
They press on and reach area M9, a dead end. Leaning against the back wall of the tunnel is the lifeless body of a human miner clutching a pickaxe. A closer inspection reveals that the miner was stabbed to death, a grim reminder of the mine’s recent violent history. Immediately to the right of the dead end is a natural stairway leading northward.
To the east of the stairway (M12) lies a door leading to sleeping quarters. Inside, they find six wooden cots, all covered in dust, indicating they haven't been used in a while. South of the sleeping quarters, a tunnel extends eastward, showing signs of recent travel.
At the end of this tunnel, Drako notices a closed door to his right. From behind it, he hears the disturbing sounds of bones snapping and rats squeaking. To the north (area M13), he can see impossibly large rat nests exuding a foul odor of droppings and decay.
However, what really catches his eye, once he reaches the entrance of area M13, is the sight of a door immediately to his right that has been busted open. Through the doorway (area M14), Drako spots a group of five giant rats feasting on what appear to be dwarven corpses, a grisly scene that underscores the mine's perilous state.
The rats take notice of Drako, and immediately begin to produce a cacophony of screeching sounds, ready to attack whoever disturbs their meal.
"So the wererats are confirmed murderers." mutters Drako. He charges take Rat-C, drawing his flail.
To-Hit: 6+5 = 11 Damage: 7+3 = 10 bludgeoning
If possible he'll then shift into the square one below Rat-C to allow the others easier access to the rats for their attacks. (The SW square isn't full, so not sure if that movement works.)
At the sound of the screeching, Darien rushes forward with fiery companion to aid Drako. He squeezes past Pinja and Grikiltha, summoning a ball of flame as he moves, and then hurls it at the first rat he sees (8 to hit, 6 fire damage). Zrava follows him, opening her mouth wide to reveal two sharp fangs, which issue out a burst of flame towards the next rat in line (flame seed, 19 to hit, 8 fire damage). Holding his breath a bit at the stench, Darien then retreats northward with the serpent to allow the others to see into the room with the rats.
[[ Don't open if you don't like snakes. ]]
The spitting cobra was the inspiration for Zrava ;)
Pinja watches the ball of flame illuminate the room. She follows after Darien until she's next to Drako and throws a dart at the closest rat. Then she also shifts north out of the way.
"CHROMATICON ORBIS ACIDUM!" He growls with a snarl. A blob of green ooze forms floating in the air just anove his palm. Nigel hurls the ball of acid at rat F. Not waiting to see the results he pulls the mine boss back around the corner to the south.
The ball of acid strikes true and you watch as the giant rat begins to bubble up and disintegrate, leaving behind bones and innards exposed and a foul smell.
Don-Jon goes "Woah! I get it, I get it! I'll get outta yer way! But no way In hell am I leavin' without a fight!"
Giant Rats: [They have Pack Tactics, which means they can attack with advantage if an ally is 5ft close to their target. ]
Grikiltha takes 6 points of damage from Giant Rat B's bite. [ Rolled a 16 to hit. ]
Drako takes 5 points of damage from Giant Rat G biting him from behind. [ Rolled a 23 to hit. ]
Nigel:
I'm not certain of the positioning you intended by 'pulling' Don-Jon to the southern tunnel, so you decide if these next two bites hit you or Don-Jon:
[ First bite is a 14 to hit, dealing 6 points of damage. Second bite is a 17 to hit, dealing 5 points of damage. ]

At Nigel's approval he dons the Goggles of Night and continues into the room, watching for any potential signs of ambush or further traps.

The scribe will follow the first two staying far enough back that his feather doesn't negate Drakos goggles.
