Drow females were expected to hold the power in society. Her family had been told of an ancient prophesy which foretold a great evil rising and a champion to meet it. That champion is undeniably... one of Kordia's four older sisters. Kordia's life had not been bad, she was just politely ignored in favor of her more important siblings. They got the best education while Kordia tried to follow along laggingly behind. Your two eldest sisters were naturals with a sword or magic. Kordia worked extra hard to barely get by, although she did have some very minor psychic talents. Kordia spent years trying to become something more useful than a background character in a family portrait, but accomplished little.
One of her only real skills seemed to be that she could sneak around the castles and compounds at night and not get noticed. Well more 'not noticed' than normal. Late one night 'someone' noticed Kordia stealthing about. That next day, she was pulled from her normal classes and indoctrinated into the academy of assassins. Kordia flourished. And yet, she was sworn to never reveal her new training to her family. Her stealthing skill improved even more and she was encouraged to work on her psychic spark.
Even when the day of the great crusade against evil arrived, her sisters all marched out with armies of believers behind them. They are is still fighting last she heard. Kordia was preparing to march out too with her fellow students of stealth when her mentor pulled her aside. "This is not your Path. Go to the surface to find your new Way." Your mentor hustled you quietly away that same day. No one was going to send out search teams or stress too much about having 'that sister' out from under foot. 'They' have a war against evil to fight. That is not Kordia's calling. She was tasked to see all the ignored places and meet people who care less about who your older sisters are and more about you.

My mentor would quote sayings and little phrases that he thought might stick with me as I moved about this world.
"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look long into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you."
He was very wise and feared the upper world might overwhelm me. I can understand his concerns. It would be so easy to kill... and to keep killing with a heart that turns to stone and a black hole for a soul. Truth be told, I think one of my elder sisters was well on her way to being 'that' sort of killing monster. *Kordia shivers*
I kill when it is a necessity. I kill when I must to save myself or another. I kill when it will stop the suffering of others. It is never easy and each kill marks my soul. It takes inner strength to keep from becoming 'that monster'.
Since Kol_Drake basically just posted the Drow version of my character idea, and posted it first (and probably did a better job of it than I would have), I think that's my sign to respectfully withdraw.😅
To Raccoon_Master and whoever gets chosen, have a great campaign! To everyone else; may your adventures lead you to new campaigns and your campaigns lead you to new adventures!

Got a few questions. (And some others sprinkled in, but bolded.)
1. Is it alright if I swap out those rolls for standard array / point-buy? 2. Are you alright with using homebrew to copy official material? Ex: Using it to recreate something like mind sliver not something original.
Got a few character ideas mulling around in my head. Gonna write them down here to remember and also to ask a couple questions.
Half-Elf Bard, College of Valor. Backstory TL;DR: Soldier, feels a duty to serve his people by taking the fight to the monsters Self-Note, get a Ruby of the War Mage
Goliath Fighter, Battlemaster Backstory TL;DR: Soldier, feels a duty to serve his people by taking the fight to the monsters Query: See him as a thrown-fighting style guy. Would it be alright to use a Elven Thrower or Dwarven Thrower for him despite not being an Elf/Dwarf for the RAW attunement requirements? Main thing looking at there is they return after a hit/miss, which prevents him needing to gather a bunch of magical thrown weapons for use during a fight against creatures immune to non-magical damage. Query 2:
Verdan Fighter, Battlemaster Backstory TL;DR: Urchin, others helped her on the streets when she was young and now she feels it's her duty to help others. Looking out for each other is how you keep going. Query: Is the Verdan race from Acquisitions Incoroporated okay?
I am interested in this and there is a character I want to play but I have a few questions about the character creation thing.
What do you mean when you say "No Custom Backgrounds"? Are you disallowing homebrew backgrounds only. Or is the Customized Background based on the PHB rules (Pick 2 skills to be proficient with, 2 language or tool proficiencies, a background feature from an existing background and equipment) also banned?
As for race, is the Yuan-Ti (Legacy. I.e the one with Poison Immunity) allowed? I want to play a Yuan-Ti but with the +1 moved from INT to CON using the rules in Tasha's. Is this allowed.
EDIT: I had one more Character Creation question. What about common non-magical equipment such as things like Plate Mail or Arrows or Heavy Crossbows. Do we stick with Starting Equipment? Can we pick nom-magical equipment using our 3 allocated Common Magic Items?
On swapping out stat roles for Point Buy/Standard Array: I would prefer you not, since it creates more interesting characters to have random stats, but if you want to go right ahead
On using homebrew to copy official materials: I am completely fine with it, as long as you don't publish it (which is against site rules. i can't have the heroes of the realm breaking the law, now can I? It would be bad publicity)
On custom backgrounds: Yes, I specifically meant the custom background from the PHB that allows you to choose any proficiencies you want
On Yuan-Ti Pureblood: I will say no, stick to the MOTM version. Looking at the two races, the only real difference is that one has poison immunity, and the other has resistance, so they aren't too different if I'm not mistaken
On magic item Attunement properties: That would be fine, it doesn't break too much if you do attune to it. Though I will warn you Giants will be in short supply this game. expect to face fiends, abberations, undead, & monstroisitys.
On Verdan: That is completely fine. In fact, any book here on DBB, whether it be 3PP or not, is fine to pull character things from
Thank you all for clarifying with me, I appreciate your patience

Hi, I'm Raccoon_Master, a young genderfluid actor, writer, explorer, and bass vocalist. Pronouns They/Them/Theirs
My Characters: Brorminthe Devout Crusher; Morgrom the Cunning Summoner;Theathe Rebellious Beauty;
SLIGHT CHANGE: I originally said you could have 2 very rare or 3 uncommon, but I messed up. I meant one very rare, 2 rare, or 3 uncommon as well as the 3 common. I will update the first post to reflect this information
Kordia, with a slight down turn of her lips slowly starts pulling items from her bag of holding and placing them back on the store shelves...
+ + + + +
Funny thing... That 'fix note' is what made me consider doing a rogue. Of course, it was a goblin rogue thief when I started seriously thinking about it. But, that seemed a bit too cliche' -- so, took about an hour of grumbling before I came up with Kordia and her race/background. Truth be told, I have never played a rogue. I started my long D&D playing as a cleric (back when cleric was field medic/doctor instead of plated, praying tank). This could be 'interesting'.
Not sure which of these ideas I like better so may as well get more writing experience. Mechanically, Quiver is geared towards archery and getting more DEX skills to the party. Whereas Preston can take some of the healing role the cleric had via healing word and buffing people while being a secondary frontliner himself.
Name: Quiver (she/her) Class: Fighter (Battlemaster) Stats: Standard Array on her. //though if it's really a strong preference for both you and the current party, can rework a couple choices to use the rolled stats Race: Verdan Background: Urchin Bonus Feat: Magic Initiate (Warlock) Character Sheet: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/119736600/xXWm42 Minor Query: Currently have Elvish as the Verdan extra language. What would be a better choice more in keeping with being from Froshdin? (since the Elves are described as going around in flying cities) 3 Uncommon Magic Items: +1 Longbow, Bracers of Archery, Shoes of Spider Climbing 3 Common Magic Items: Cloak of Billowing, Healing Potion x2 Self-Note: fix initiate spell choice to be hex. Backstory: Quiver never felt like she belonged. Orphaned, not one of the major races. Who were her people? Her answer came in the form of the poor and downtrodden. One man in particular, Adgan Notsk, was a particular a rock in the storm of her youth. After he protected her from some would-be robbers they grew a bond between them with him as a semi-surrogate father to her. She took after him, learning to fight both to keep herself safe and to protect other urchins. If no one else would look after them then it was up to her to try. It was a sad day when he passed. And that's why she's willing to set off on this quest. The council could talk all day about its concern for the people of Froshdin, but as far as she'd seen they didn't seem to care for the poor. So if there was another person needing to go into the darkness to protect the land then it should be her. Someone had to carry those looked over in their heart on such a quest. Packing up what little she owns, she is ready for the road. Writing Sample: [imagine the scene is while exploring a cave] Quiver returns down passageway to the party. "Looks like there's three goblins guarding some prisoners." she whispers. There's a hint of lament in her voice. She never liked seeing people in fear. She nocks an arrow as the group heads forward. Though she'd feel more comfortable in the city streets, had to press on. As they approach the location she telepathically alerts each person, (Goblins. Close.) Ready or not, go-time.
Name: Preston Trufflefoot (he/him) Class: Bard (College of Valor) Stats: Point-Buy on him. Race: Half-Elf Background: Soldier Bonus Feat: Skill Expert Character Sheet: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/119736567/Mg6Olt 3 Uncommon Magic Items: +1 Rapier, Pearl of Power, Lantern of Revealing 3 Common Magic Items: Ruby of the War Mage, Wand of Pyrotechnics, Potion of Healing Backstory: Preston found himself between two world. On his elven mother's side there was the draw of magic. On his human father's side was the call for expansion. As much as he enjoyed learning magic from his mother he could not resist the call of adventure and signed up for the army. There he cut his teeth in battle during various invasions, particularly one expedition into Firbolg lands. Fearsome enemies, he couldn't help but gain a respect for them though he mourned his fallen companions. He served for the benefit of his people. He believed that by fighting for his country he was protecting those back home. That same desire to protect others is why he's going on this quest into the darkness. Having shown his valor in combat he hopes to be selected by the council in order to drive off the monsters that are plaguing Froshdin and the rest of humanity humanoidity. He knew it would be dangerous, someone had already died he'd heard, but it was a risk worth taking. Writing Sample: [imagine the scene is while resting after a battle] Preston joins the others under the tree and takes out his bagpipes. "Little tougher than I expected, but we did alright. Those were some really nice hits you got in on that troll, Jim. And thank you, Marcia, for getting a fire started. I dare say we would've been there all day if it weren't for you." He chuckles, just one more near-death experience on the road. He plays some notes on the pipes, instilling a soothing calm upon his partymates. "So now that we have the Thingamabob that Lord Questgiver told us about what should we do? I'm in favor of heading towards Cave Plothook as soon as possible since we're on a time crunch. But if you'd rather follow Bob's plan of talking to Lady Loredump back in Villageville I can go with it." He gets back to playing his bagpipes, taking a moment here and there to eat some of his rations. Character Art:

Rolling stats here. I would have rolled in the same post I asked my questions but DnD Beyond dice roller has a tendency to bork things.
Rolling 4d6, drop lowest, rerolling ALL 1s:
6 4 6 4
5 2 6 6
3 4 5 2
3 1 3 4
6 1 6 6
4 6 2 3
Quoting to prevent these rolls from being changed by the "Manipulated dice flag"
Rerolling 1s:
First: 6 4
second: No 1s.
third: 6
fourth: No 1s
fifth: 5
sixth: No 1s
Final Stat set:
[10, 17, 13, 10, 18, 13]
I can work with this though I might want to change the racial bonuses in a different way if Yuan-Ti + Tasha's rules are allowed.
You didn't! You took an old trope and gave it a cool twist! Kudos! Much better than the sad vanilla version I was thinking about applying with👏
