Saepilaa, a once powerful faerünian city of merchants, has fallen into disgrace. Crime, dark magic and dangerous politics loom like a shadow over the city, threatening to destroy the lives of thousands. A grim desperation has grown in the hearts of most saepilaans, and the hope seems almost gone. Almost. For the city can still be saved, if someone brave enough fights to find a way.
The Shadows of Saepilaa is an extremely versatile homebrew campaign, in which the party will use their varied abilities to save (or not) the merchant city of Saepilaa from the many threats that loom over it. This D&D 5e campaign is built to have an extremely wide range of freedom, while still offering a bigger overarching plot that will advance as the players make their own creative choices.
The campaign can easily be suited for the preferences of your party. The story (combined with some healthy improvisation from me) is sure to grant players complete agency over their characters, as they see how their choices and victories affect the people around them in diverse and meaningful ways.
Explore this adventure in whichever ways YOU prefer, be it focusing mainly on roleplay, combat, or even horror as well. This experience is meant to be tailored both before the game and during the game for you, and the rest of the players.
Why Paid PBP❓️
I have found that one of the most common issues of the PBP format is the activity of both the players and the DM. Players know they can easily find another group, which means that sadly their investment often drops as soon as anything else catches their attention. DMs must spend lots of time preparing, to be often met with the aforementioned lack of consistency. Those players that are still genuinely invested face a spiraling circle of activity drop, which eventually leads to them losing interest as well. I am already working on a larger project to try to solve this issue, but I'd still like to enjoy this game while I do that. For that reason, I firmly believe that charging a small fee for the game is (although not a complete solution) a great tool to deal with this issue. As players have spent money on the game, they are more likely to push through small "rough patches" on the story or keep their interest up. Since the DM has an extra little incentive (and an ethical duty as well), they are also more likely to give the game their best. And, since now I also have to ensure the game is worth the price, I can press a bit harder with rules designed specifically to ensure activity from both the players and myself, and quick players that do not fit the group. Particularly, I will grant full refunds to the whole week if 24 hours ever pass between the last time I've been pinged and my next post. Also, there will be a votation system to allow players to quick inactive or unfitting players.
I also understand that, to deserve the money that will be spent on the game, I must put an extra effort. I will design maps far more often than usual, and I will create my own original homebrew for any paid player that wants to fit any specific (coherent with the story, of course) character role (as long as the party is okay with that).
Finally, The Shadows of Saepilaa is also not only a campaign, but an adventure module that's currently on writing process. For that reason, and since having players participate on the story helps me flesh out the module, I will grant the pdf file for free to every player of this campaign that's been active through the whole thing, once it's completed. So, not only are you having fun, you will eventually also get a free module out of it!

This campaign will be run exclusively in a Play By Post (PBP) model, exclusively through Discord and Owlbear Rodeo. We will use Avrae to track sheets and combat. I will provide guidance and teach each player everything you need to know, both about D&D and about the software we use.
💰Payment
This is a paid game. All players will be required to pay 10 dollars each week to keep on playing. I have various options to handle payment, so we can make sure we can find a way that works for you. We will discuss the details in private
📥"How do I join?"
If you or someone you know are interested, don't hesitate on sending me a private message through here, or answering to this very thread. From there, I will give you my Discord username so you can contact me more easily.
* Things you must know: you will need a Discord account to participate on this campaign. You will need an account on either DndBeyond (I will facilitate a link with most of the official character options) or DiceCloud, as we will use Avrae for sheet tracking. You might eventually need a (free) Owlbear Rodeo account. THIS GAME IS LGBTQ FRIENDLY, A SAFE SPACE, AND FREE OF IRL HATE SPEECH: if you have any issues with any of that, please refrain from joining my table. THIS IS NOT AN ERP CAMPAIGN. The +18 clarification is due to the mature and dark nature of the story, which will probably involve some elements that might be disturbing or too violent for minor audiences.
* Things I can assure you: I will pay attention to all of my players, making sure each one of them feels safe, contained and secure. I will keep the campaign moving forward, as long as I can get the players to do so. I will make sure no toxicity is born within the game, disposing of those who make others uncomfortable. I will be available for my players, as often as I'm capable of. I will provide a well crafted and malleable story, as well as plenty of homebrew creatures, NPCs and possibly even class options. Althiugh we will mostly use Theater of the Mind, I will also create and design my own maps for the most relevant battles (using various softwares). I will utilize safety tools before, during and after relevant plot moments, to ensure every player feels calm and safe with the story and the rest of the party.
* Things you might want to know: This campaign goes from levels 3 to 13. The game and type of story it can tell will vary greatly from group to group. I will provide links to D&D sources, explanations for beginners and every resource I can facilitate to make the story truly enjoyable. Although I am mostly pro-homebrew and a homebrewer myself, I am well versed enough on the official rules to grant a fully RAW experience, if my players desire that. Similarly, if my players enjoy homebrew, I can and will personally check every homebrew my players want to use, making sure it's balanced and tweaking it when needed so that every player can play their true fantasy. All of this will be discussed during the free session 0.
- AVAILABLE SLOTS: 5 out of 6
That's all for now!! If you are interested or have any questions, please don't hesitate on sending me a message. Have a good day!
Do you assure you will update X amount of times per week? Can you ensure the other players will participate enough as well to ensure the game moves along and players get their $10 worth? Cause I am not seeing how one person couldn't slow the game down and make it a rip off for all the others...
Prices are negotiable, really. I am only basing myself off of other standard PBP paid game prices, which usually are priced at about 15 usd per week for an official module. As for your concerns, yes, I do assure those things. If I am pinged at any point of the week and take more than 24 hours to answer, I will grant full refunds to my players. I will also pong and insist all players to answer and participate. And, if concerns are brought up about a specific player not participating enough, I will give them an ultimatum followed by expulsing them from the group. Finally, from all of what I've heard and seen, paid PBP usually results in far more active players. Precisely because all of them have spent some money on it, so they want to make sure they make their money worth it.
Still looking for at least one more player to start! I've also updated the conditions for the game as well, including new perks to paying for the game. Check them out!!

$10 a week for a PBP campaign?

Yeah 10 bucks for pbp seems kinda crazy
Sorry for my delay, I had a few busy days.
