Application type #1: the standard. This application is for those who have a specific character they want to play, and is much simpler than the other. Please provide the following information:
Character Name and Pronouns: Ghuarzule Cleaver', who uses any pronouns (NB) and is pan
Character Race and Subrace: Kobold
Character Class and Subclass: Lore bard
Character Background and Backstory: they are a small kobold who was born in a town full of others who hated them, making them fearful and weary, ready for a fight at any corner. as they grew more and more they hated the things that happened to them, and started to fight back. they became a strong kobold and trained with a lance, getting better every day. as their training grew more and more efficient, they managed to stop many people that before the training would have killed them. soon, they fought a fight they could not beat, and escaped with many scars, and a lance, a fight they never talk about. when they fled they went to a neighboring town and became a jester, but just as they where earing money their enemies came, and they fled far away- meeting the rest of the party. they are a haunted one and they have the alert feat
In addition, you can include any of the following things in your application:
Personality and Roleplay: Joyful, mischievous, and silly
Stuff for Racoon only:
They are actually a short green dragonborn who happens to have strange mutations that make them look kinda like a kobold, and their past is sad- they got attacked for being a tiny useless kobold, or by other dragonborns for giving them a bad look. the attacks quickly went to torture, as they where forced to see the most horrendous things they can't get out of their mind. all of the stuff about their backstory is true except for the kobold stuff, which they made up despite hating being mistaken for a kobold. the fight they never talk about is with a swift fighter that is an aasimar, named Uhrkchull Nevrlaends (pronouned URK-chull-EK nev-ER-lands)
Hi! Played basic D&D, then years later 3.5, and now 5e. I'm actually a bit new to PBP here on DNDBeyond and have found it a great way to: 1) Get a bit more D&D in, 2) Express my, and learn from others, creative muscles.
A bit of my experience with D&D, as far as playing with friends (in person & online) where I've DM'd or played if it helps... - DM, completed: Lost Mines, TOA, Strahd, Storm King's Thunder, Yawning Portal (minus tomb of horrors) - DM, current: Homebrew game, Fey based / planar travel, Shattered Obelisk - Player completed: POA: half-elf Hexblade, Rime: Warforged Battlemaster - Player current: Eberron Homebrew, Human, Twilight Cleric, Mark of Passage
I like all roles in the party, though I usually lean towards healer/cleric, fighter/controller, caster/support/dps, ...
What I'd like to get out of this game is a place where we can weave a (long term) story and all explore a high level campaign of interesting character’s, because of interesting players.
Writing prompt:
As the Arch-lich finishes speaking, those assembled before him know that the future of the universe, will depend on the choices they make in the next few seconds. As Zilly, the charming yet loquacious deep gnome bard begins to talk, weaving his magic into every word, Shasher subtlety reaches out to Octo, the Minotaur barbarian standing next to him, and stabs him below his fur covered arm pit with his dagger, letting it linger there, to draw out blood. To his credit, Octo, doesn't even flinch, confident that Shasher's actions are for the better good, trusting.
Shasher pulls the dagger close, and wipes the minotaur's thick blood on both of his hands. He looks over at Jaya, the Gem Dragonborn fighter, their master of battle, and says to him in draconic.
It's well known that this undead lich wanna be doesn't speak draconic, so execute our plan now, go!
As soon as the Arch Lich looks at the dragonborn, obviously able to understand every word, Shasher gathers the magic around him and disappears, and instantly reappears standing on top of the Ultra Super Laser of Doomsday. He immediately wipes both hands on the lens of the laser, coating it with thick, dark minotaur blood.
Immediately, but not unexpectedly, his body stiffens up, as the lich's protection magic takes effect. As Shasher's stiff body falls off the Laser of Doom, he hopes the lich didn't notice his coating the laser with blood, and that if the lich is able to fire it, that it's malfunction doesn't kill all of his friends. Or at least, not kill Kneecap, their cleric, hiding in a pocket plane, ready to teleport in when things are at their worse.
Which, really was, as soon as they showed up...
Character concepts:
Dwarven(?) life cleric, looking to martially fight evil, healing is an afterthought, though they are very good at it. (full cleric) Fairy/fey, born of magic, imprisoned for a while (dark domain type place) escaped through the help of another [divine/patron] (wiz/cleric/warlock multi class two of them) Kobold fighter, deep connection with dragons, drakewarden type (ranger/fighter multiclass) Open to anything else really.
Another application:
Most of my apps seem to have been DMs, here is one: Name: Octo
Race: Minotaur
Class: Barbarian, plan to choose Path of Ancestral Guardians, pending campaign/party makeup.
backup: If needed for the party or it makes sense, I could play Octo as a Forge Cleric instead of Barbarian and add divinity to his background. I love clerics. :)
Backstory:
Octo is the eighth son of Minotaur King Tyco and Queen Leo. His home is a vast labyrinth of twisted passages and caverns located below The Sword Mountains. This labyrinth has eight entrances to it, and each son is responsible for guarding one of the entrances. Octo’s’ entrance is on the west side of the mountains, near the vast swamp named The Mere of Dead Men.
Before each son can take over as Captain of the Guard of their respective portals, they must leave their home and make a name for themselves. Some choose a path of enlightenment, or magic, or entertainment, to ensure that their name is forever etched in history. Octo plans you use his strength and rage, and his trusty battle-axe Sparks, to leave his mark on the land of man, orcs, and elves.
Now all he needs is a few trusted companions, denizens of the land above ground, to help him accomplish his goal of becoming a living legend, so that he can return home and fulfil his destiny!

I'd be keen to play in a Vecna Eve of Ruin. I've wanted for a very long time now to play a Genie Warlock that reaches 14 level and up, and this may be the best opportunity, so:
Character Class and Subclass: Level 1: Sorcerer (Storm Sorcery Subclass), Level 2-20: Warlock (Genie - Djinni subclass).
Character background: Smuggler, with thematic feat: (Actor)
Character backstory: Like many genasi born under a great storm and a confluence of magic, Sturm had a hard childhood for the simple crime of looking different. He no longer remembers his home port, or his mother's face, because by the age of six he was a ship's boy for a merchant crew travelling the length and breadth of the world. From port to port and castle to castle, Sturm learnt to read the sky and the waves like he learnt to read his letters. He learnt how to tie knots at the same time as he learnt how to bind customers into deals and contracts.
When Sturm was a young teenager, his life changed as he met Captain Qinfenda of the Cosmic Zephyr. A true Djinni, Captain Qinfenda was master of a spelljamming vessel and the oceans he sailed were broader than Sturm had ever known. Across many worlds, Captain Qinfenda had a genie's desire for luxury and collecting, and he collected also those sailors he met who were of interest to him -- and that included Genasi.
Under the Captain, Sturm became a firm favourite. The captain helped Sturm learn to draw out the sorcery in his blood, and to become a competent spelljammer, and he learnt how to assess quality and spy luxury. He had a quick eye for the lessons and it became apparent that Sturm was being trained as the Captain's heir when Sturm was selected to lead the next auction of their Astral wares in a backwater city on some Forgotten Realm -- a clear practice run for the captain's own seat.
This didn't sit well with some. A fire genasi -- the Captain's former favourite -- set in play a plot that culminated in the death of the genie and the mutiny of the crew. Docked in a city in the Sword Coast at the time, Sturm found himself fleeing his former crewmates for his life.
Now, the mementos of his ruin that he carries with him are all that he possesses, an amulet of dark stone from his first adventure with the Captain, a cloak of many fashions that all the crew wore to help integrate themselves at every dock, and a monocle -- a gift that rewarded his sharp eye for business. He uses that monocle now to examine the ring he took from the Captain's finger before he discorporated, a ring with a compartment that glimmers with the telltale shimmer of magic...
Role: Sturm occupies a back to mid-range line in combat, but he is much more a man of utility. He is able to assess the value of merchandise and of people and their secrets too, with his proficiencies in arcana, persuasion and deception, and the ability to read all languages.
He is well suited to some aspects of spell-jamming and planar travel with his ability to hold his breath indefinitely. As a genasi with a genie ring, gradually gaining more and more genie powers, he is able to use his amulet to try and access cantrips he doesn't know with the power of desire. He is used to a rough life of intrigue and travel.
Within a group, Sturm will take the role of a mediator. He seeks to ultimately try and gain a crew again, and perhaps find out the secrets of those who betrayed his captain. Mostly, he is looking for a new family, and he'd be keen to nip conflict within a group in the bud. He is not a 'good' person, but he's not a 'bad' person either. Mostly he cares about his friends and is willing to compromise to help those he considers 'his crew'.
Was having trouble editing and then it might be missed anyway, so I was thinking more about the role to play and the long campaign and I’ve copied and pasted this from the failed edit about the character quoted and what I think they might be doing in a team.
EDIT: I’ve been thinking about roles more. I know that you’re aiming for a seven man band, but narratively, thinking in terms of the ‘five man band’, you’ve got the leader, the lancer, the brute, the clever one, and the heart. I’d play Sturm as a mix between the lancer and the heart.
In some stories, the role of the lancer is to be the person who gets back-up, who provides options, or comes up with slightly more creative solutions that the rest of the band weighs in on. In other stories they’re the one who pulls towards the status quo for the group who wants to be more radical, or pushes for more bold courses of action when the group is more risk averse.
With Sturm’s history of crew management and as a smuggler and sailor, with an Actor feat and mask of many faces for deceptive disguises, his background feature is one to do with networks.
I’d play Sturm as someone who ‘debriefs’, ergo some features of heart, and pulling away from murder hobo/Eldritch horror/forbidden magic collecting, but also someone who is able to break the law in order to achieve aims. He doesn’t mind tricking but he doesn’t want to harm. He’s been stung by being out of the loop and so he seeks information from his network and from the band, in order to clear a path and understand the society around him well enough to help chart a course through whatever obstacles it presents to their goals.
He keeps an eye out for distress and for goals. In long rests at the end of the day he keeps some time to check in with other characters’ when he’s noticed things that are difficult or ambitions they want to check. Like a lot of lancers he would then show initiative. He’d be the second person to propose courses of actions, after one has already been said. He offers alternatives. I don’t know the story of Eve of ruin but with Vecna and the promos about secrets on dndbeyonds front page, I think both of these would give me and others a lot to work with in a campaign dealing with dark magics and dark deeds.
Character Name and Pronouns: Silo, he/him. Character Race and Subrace: Kobold Character Class and Subclass: Artificer (Armorer) Character Background and Backstory: Rewarded background.
Silo the kobold was always a curious little guy... an inventor and tinkerer. He was always trying to build new things to advance his tribe and serve their draconic master.
But something changed one day... while searching through a junk heap at behind a local settlement, he stumbled across several broken machines, discarded by an unsatisfied inventor. Curious as ever, Silo began playing with the broken machines. And it wasn't long before he felt his eyes opened to a whole new world... a modern world. The little kobold suddenly realized that there was truly something ahead for him, something far grander than merely tinkering around with whatever garbage he could collect and serving an elderly, semi-senile dragon!
The little kobold set out to hone his craft, to become a great inventor whose name would be known the whole world over!
Recruitment ends tomorrow people! I know some of you are lurking, so why not throw your hat in the ring? Nothing is set in stone until the recruitment closes!

It looks like NycrolB’s character is also a storm sorcerer. To avoid having the same class, I could easily swap to a different subclass, maybe the UA Phoenix sorcerer to be more fire based. That being said, I saw there’s lots of spellcasters, so I could swap out to a different class if needs be. My character concept and backstory is still the same, but I’m not dead-set on being a storm sorcerer if that makes it easier.
Obviously I may not get picked, is the first thing. But also, Sturm is only getting the first level of Storm Sorcery because it lends itself so well to his Genasi heritage and has good storm based ability in the first level (two first level spell slots for a warlock going forward don't hurt nuffin' neither). I'm seeing it essentially as Air Genasi racial feats ++. Wind Speaker suits a Genasi Sailor as a thing to play around with, and the Air Flight too. He gets thunder resistance with genie at Total Level 7, and already has lightning.
But, if we were both chosen, and the DM was happy, I wouldn't want to have my Djinni Warlock character lead to someone not playing Storm Sorcery. (I'll never get sorcery points etc, this isn't a coffee lock thing), I promise he won't go any further into Sorcery and they'd have a lot of natural things to bounce off each other over, as a character. And, tbf, with seven players it might slightly reduce some of the cognitive load for the DM in terms of learning everyone's early level subclass features (ok, both of those guys can move ten feet and speak Primordial).
All the real Sorcery Class features would stay with you from 3 to 20, if that's at all helpful.
If we were both picked, and it was problematic to yourself and DM, I can just be a genie warlock from level 1 onward, and forgo constitution save proficiency. That's fine to me.
Don't worry about changing the class, it's fine. The only reasons I asked you to include something like class which has no real impact on the character storywise was to get a feel for the characters abilities and such. The group will not be chosen on the merits of what combination of characters is the most balanced party.
RECRUITMENT ENDS TONIGHT! FINISH UP THOSE APPS AND GET THEM IN! IF YOU'RE LURKING, ONCE AGAIN I INVITE YOU TO THROW YOUR HAT IN THE RING.
