Can I see if there's something that looks like vital organs or something similar that would make sacrificing this thing a clean kill instead of just pissing it off more? hehe
As Balmaris looks for vital locations and Gralwynn searches for an appropriate weapon, Creak steps up and takes care of stabbing the mass of plants a few times. As the first stab lands, it quivers and starts to rise up for just a moment before a second stab causes the creature to collapse into a rapidly disintegrating gooey pile of rotting vegetation on the altar.
As the creature perishes, the apparitions stop chanting and fade away, disappearing from view.
You now stand in a silent room that is rapidly filling with the smell of rotting vegetation.
Unable to hold back a chuckle, "Yes, yes I guess you did"
Gralwynn uses Control Flames to have the fire from the torches the group was carrying to form the shape of a triumphant bird flexing it's arms, standing atop a slumped over plant, before extinguishing it with a cruel smile.
"Now, if we are done applauding ourselves? Where do we go next?"
(OoC: I just remembered some of us were carrying torches. At least it worked out, probably for the best, as doubt we could have been able to get it to the altar before it's death if it were on fire.)
I'm fine with either option, but I say that we should have a short rest before we do anything. Adric is at 12/22 HP and I doubt that Balmaris is doing much better.

(For right now, we'll say you can take and benefit from a short rest and then proceed upstairs and attempt to make your escape. Feel free to roll any HD you'd like and regain whatever features you may regain on a SR. If they group wants to not take the rest, simply ignore that part! I apologize if this preempts anyone's thoughts or wishes on progress. :) )
After taking your rest, the group makes a trek back through the basement catacombs to the ladder leading up to the house. As you move through the house, you notice that the light shining through some of the previously open windows much brighter than before. A quick glance shows a series of houses in the distance, sharply slanted roof lines clearly prepared for heavy snowfalls. Smoke billows from some of the chimneys that poke over the tops.
All signs of the mist that once enveloped the house are gone and any door you attempt to open swings open easily.
Death House Survived! Congratulations, all party members can advance to level 3!

Gralwynn, exhausted and panting, wheezes out to the spirits: "I don't suppose there's some ritualistic impliment we're supposed to use?
Creak shrugs and stabs the creature with his new rat skull knife, Anklebiter.

"Hmm, another stab? Or a dozen. We want to make sure, right?" Rynna says looking over the collapsed plant-thing.
Was it supposed to wilt? Mold about the edges? Excrete foul smelling sap? It looked pretty dead to her but you never knew.

"Did that do it? Whatever it was?" Rynna asks the others.
Creak blinks, looks around squatly, and thrusts his arms in the air in an “I did it!” motion. He makes a confetti noise.

"Out. This house is far too creepy for our health. I don't know where we are exactly but I think we need to start finding out," Rynna suggests.
(OOC: From here, are you all going to head back up and attempt to leave the house, or are you doing further exploring down here?)
I vote begin trying to leave.

(If you recall, a malevolent force was keeping us here, that seemed pretty malevolent. Plus no more chanting. Worth trying at least, right?)
