KHESSA sees nothing in particular in the room. She heads back to the only other way to go. The corridor turns to the east and heads about thirty feet to a set of stairs rising out o the watery muck. You will look around the corner where the corridor will continue south another twenty-five feet to a door.
(Yes, by all means, please give yourself a 1d4 Guidance check from RAYNOIR for any skill checks.)
After the stairs the terrain is no longer flooded... so Khessa tries again looking for evidence of Mr Rag Fashion's passage. If before the flooded terrain made it impossible to find them, now, on the contrary, this should make the task trivial, because if Mr Rag Fashion passed through here (without flying or walking on the walls), he must have wet his feet and consequently he should have left traces of wetness, once he went upstairs. If these traces were not there... this would be a possible clue to a secret passage that we did not find in the other room (and Khessa could decide to go back to investigate again).
While the blonde arcane warrior performs this check, she asks Atlas, who is sneakier than her: "Do you feel like going quietly to the door at the end and eavesdropping? Maybe some noise could reveal something about the occupants".
Khessa is relieved to at least be on the right tracks, and since Atlas did not hear anything, she approaches the door and opens it, promptly sending the floatinglluminous torch inside.
The blonde arcane warrior, well aware of how dangerous these cultists are, is ready for anything...
The party will see that this chamber is empty but not bereft of decor. Carved into each of its three doors are full-figure depictions. The East door depicts a tall, armored man wearing a bucket helm. His right gauntlet is painted black and clutches a set of shackles. The North door that you entered from, depicts a powerfully built, skull-headed man with long, curved blades where his hands should be. The South door depicts a cloaked figure whose face is hidden under a cowl. In his skeletal hands, he clutches a screaming human skull. To the west are stairs heading back down into the smelly muck.
As soon as she enters, Khessa, seeing the decorations, muses aloud: "They must be the representations of the three dead deities to whom these bloodthirsty Cultists continue to dedicate their murders..."
The blonde arcane warrior tries to identify who is Bane, the Lord of Darkness, who is Bhaal, the Lord of Murder and who is Myrkul, the Lord of Bones.
Whether she succeeds in identifying them or not, the tall adventuress then focuses her attention again on the traces that Mr Rag fashion should have continued to leave... Which exit did the fugitive take?
“Do de do de do. Be boo bop be do. Wop de wo. Wee!” Rosebud was quietly amusing herself until she got to the final line of her out of tune melody when she couldn’t help but to be excited. This metaphorical and real path with cultists with creepy statues was not one she had walked before, even in her nightmares. She lost herself in the melody, perhaps a bit too much if this was supposed to be stealthy. At least her conclusion didn’t echo.
"You're right Elias... no good person will ever miss these guys!" Khessa agrees "And yes, Mr Fashion Sense left tracks that lead to the south door, that of Myrkul, the Lord of Bones - and it makes sense, since he used necrotic bolts... So, if we want to try to close the matter with him first, that's where we should go".
"However, I don't like a bit the fact that the door we came from, the north door, is dedicated to Bhaal, the Lord of Murder!" the blonde arcane warrior points out (while smiling at Rosebud's apparent carefreeness - at least an adventuress capable of losing herself in a melody while invading a base of bloodthirsty cultists is definitely a companion who doesn't panic easily) "We didn't encounter any enemies lurking in that direction... This makes me think that either in that empty and apparently useless room, or in another point that we passed, there could be a secret passage, perhaps leading to the den section of the Bhaal Cultists... Either that, or these decorations do not 'mark' the various areas, but are just creepy decorations".
"What do you prefer?" the tall adventuress addresses everyone "Shall we continue trough the south door, hoping to find and eliminate Mr Fashion Sense before he can alarm too many cultists? Or shall we retrace our steps, looking more carefully for any secret passages, so as not to risk skipping the Bhaal Cultists area?"
Elias smiles at Khessa, I'm glad they're are still good people in this messed up world. Might be good to double back just to make sure no one comes up behind us. I'm not a very good rear guard. he chuckles at the thought of him being a guard of any sorts, what would master Orbos think of me now?
"We know where one enemy has gone. I say we go that direction. They say a tree in the dirt is worth two seeds in the mouth of a squirrel. But I can go backwards as well as forward but can only look one way or the other." To Elias, she says, "I mean, I can help you watch our behinds, if that would ease your burden. You have performed admirably, so far."
"I asked everyone because the risk is everyone's..." Khessa replies "Since both Rosebud and Reya are for continuing on the trail of the enemy we have already encountered - and I am inclined towards the same idea, well, I'd say let's continue on the trail of Mr Fashion Sense".
The blonde arcane warrior approaches the south door, that of Myrkul, the Lord of Bones. She tries to eavesdrop. If no suspicious noises are heard, she opens the door and, in case there is a simple corridor beyond, she begins to follow it.
Before moving forward, Atlas will remove some string, 3 pitons, and a bell from his inventory. Quietly he will set up a tripwire alarm covering both the North entrance and the West just to be safe.
"Whichever path we decide on, I suggest we keep the door open and listen carefully for this bell. Also, will make for an easier escape if need be."
KHESSA doesn't hear anything at the door. When she opens the door she can see lying on the floor of this otherwise empty room are the pale bodies of three humans in filthy black and gray robes, arranged in a triangular formation. A lit torch lies between them. A rough-hewn staircase to the left leads down to another torchlit chamber.
