Esta finishes checking her gear, then straightens, her gaze steady but weary.
“We’re not thieves,” she says plainly, glancing toward Marduk (though those perceptive enough will witness a quick smirk as she remembers her chosen... hobbies...) “And we didn’t lose the automaton. Someone in Sigil sent us to find it—said it was important. Said it had gone missing and might be here. That’s all we were told.”
She looks toward the stairs again, jaw tightening. “I don’t trust them. Not fully. But they got us out of that morgue, and they gave us a direction. That’s more than we had before.”
Her eyes flick to Jessa. “If your magic can help us avoid whatever’s up there, good. But I’ll be honest—I don’t want to go back. That library’s cursed, or worse. I’d rather keep searching elsewhere.”
She does however, proceed to follow, her bow ready, as she sneaks in ready for what may happen if that thing catches their scent...
OOC: I am back from vacation so I apologize for not answering your questions! Sizzle would have but his player kind of forgets the exact reason why we are searching for the construct lol! it was a long vacation and I am catching up on a lot of things
(Haha welcome back! No worries! Shemeshka has promised to look into your situation while you find her missing modron.)
When you all get upstairs, you see now and then a hulking ugly figure in the room where others had died previously. The sense of something fiendish is strong there.
"Is that what killed your friends?" Jessa asks softly. "It is a fiend in there. If it is as dangerous as you all say, perhaps we avoid it. Odd though it just stays in there." She keeps a close eye on it for moment, then looks about the room. "Have you examined the other spaces? Or gone up above?" she asks, pointing at the ladder.
"Where are the bodies?..." Sizzle asks a little louder than anticipated... "there is no sign of a fight anywhere..." He adds before glancing back towards the newcomers.
"yes... I think that.must be the attacker...." The goblin replies to Jessa
Marduk gives a nonchalant shrug when Esta says they aren't thieves, clearly not ready to believe her or press the issue further. Instead he looks to the room above, hands still in his pockets as he follows the group.
His expression changes drastically when he sees the fiend, anger flaring in his eyes. He tenses as if debating on whether or not to attack the fiend, but then shuts his eyes and forces himself to look elsewhere. Strange that there are no bodies, but if that thing was really powerful enough to kill two of their companions one against this entire company... well best not to tangle with it. There are enough fiends in the world that are running amok, unchecked by the divine, what's one more to add to that list? He shakes his head, expression smoothing as he turns his attention back to his new 'companions'.
"Yes, how much of this tower have you searched already? And, if you don't mind telling, what exactly does this... thing you are looking for actually look like. Automaton is not much to go on."
"Ok..." Jessa says to Sizzle. "You aren't completely sure what killed your friends. And their bodies should be over there with the fiend, but we can't find them. Not strange at all." She doesn't bother waiting for any other answers to her questions. Keeping her attention on the fiend, she makes her way up the ladder.

Sizzle looks over the strange mechanical wand once more before following his companions up the stairs.

ooc: are the bodies of our companions there?
(No, they have disappeared)
(Do I assume Jessa got nothing from her Divine Sense?)
