Hearing the whirring after Sizzle works on the strange skull, she turns from the calligraphy supplies to see what is happening. "So, what does it do?" she asks. "I don't think any of the other stuff is worth taking. But you want to take that with us?" She then is ready to move on, suggesting, "Perhaps we should look upsairs now?"
"OH yeah, we are keeping this thing.." Sizzle replies as he stuffs the skull into his pack. "I don't know what it does... But I plan to study it further once we are out of here.". The rested goblin slings his pack over his shoulder and holds his arcane blaster down at his side. "I'm ready to head upstairs."
Going up one level (where the demon bugs were before) here is the general description again for a reminder:
This chamber is dominated by a sculpture of a gigantic, humanlike figure looming over a broad, circular table. A ladder to the north descends, while a ladder to the south climbs to the floor above.
Jessa gives the room a cursory glance to see if there might be anything more of interest. (Perception: 15) But if she doesn't see anything, she goes ahead and slowly climbs up the ladder.
While the others fuss over the strange skull, Esta keeps her distance, her eyes scanning the chamber with quiet intent. She moves with practiced ease, stepping lightly around the edges of the room, careful not to disturb the dust or draw attention.
“Skulls are all yours,” she mutters under her breath, half to Sizzle, half to herself. “I’ll take the rest.”
She crouches near the base of the looming sculpture, eyes narrowing as she inspects the table and surrounding walls for anything overlooked—hidden compartments, markings, loose stones, anything that might hint at the automaton’s trail or the tower’s purpose.
(Investigation Check: 3...)
Her fingers brush along the edge of the table, pausing at any irregularities. “If we’re going to keep climbing this cursed place,” she says quietly, “I’d rather not miss something important down here.”
While most of you don't see much in the room as you check it out on your way, Sizzle (I rolled for a few of you just to help things along) does notice an offset indentation along the south wall, which when pressed, makes a hidden door slide away revealing a small hidden room, mostly empty except for a necklace with several gems dangling from it which you can readily identify as a necklace of prayer beads.
There are 4 magical beads which correspond to 1 use each of: Planar Ally, Greater Restoration, Bless, and Cure Wounds/Lesser Restoration.
Ascending to the next floor up, you see ancient tapestries of the planes and cosmic alignments cover the walls of this simple room. Ladders descend to the floor below and rise to the level above. A wizened old gnome sits huddled in a corner, wearing tattered robes and a tall hat indicating a member of the Fraternity of Order. He looks up when you ascend and croaks out, "Is it safe to leave?"
"Hello. I'm Jessa. Who are you?" She looks at the old gnome, then nods. "If you mean the creatures below, they have been killed. I think you can go safely. How long have you been here? And what's above, if you know?"
Zakhar doesn't do much as the others loot the room, part of him wants to ask Esta if the bodies of her original companions had vanished like this as well. Though he feels like that might be a touchy subject for her. Could the vanishing bodies have something to do with them breaking the rules of the multiverse or whatever? He shakes his head, no reason to think about that right now.
On the next floor, Zakhar tilts his head at the old gnome. How long has this guy been up here? "Like Jessa said, We've taken care of the threats below. So if that's what you mean then yes it's safe to leave..."He looks over the man's robe.
(does Zakhar know what the Fraternity order is? Do i need to roll something for it?)
Marduk had (quite literally) faded out of existence for a good while there. Re-materializing beside Zakhar, he looks thoughtful for a moment... though his thoughts are likely far from the situation at hand. Nodding to himself he looks down at the gnome. "Safe as it can be," he says, shrugging before glancing around the room.
Investigation: 12
"Who are you?" he asks the gnome suddenly. "You wouldn't happen to know who the master of this tower is, would you?" He seems utterly unconcerned with the Fraternity Order.
(Make a history check for the Fraternity of Order. DC 20:
You vaguely recall seeing similar insignias a time or two around Sigil, so it's likely some group there, but having never had exposure to them before, you have no idea what they are about
)
"Oh, oh yes! Oh good. I'm not sure how long I've been here, ehh...time is...strange here. But I sincerely thank you for ridding this place of those monsters! Thankfully they seemed distracted by the things below here and not me! Not yet anyway...I, uh...no I don't know who the master of the tower is, unless it has something to do with the information in the lower levels there." The old gnome gets up and gives you all a bow. "I will take my leave then. I wish you all good fortune!"
"Ah ha! I knew it" The goblin says with a hungry grin as he makes his way into the secret room. Seeing the beaded necklace he cautiously approaches the expensive looking jewlery before giving it a quick examination. once he realized what it was, Sizzles eyes went wide. "Well! Look what we have here... " He says aloud before taking the necklace into his gloved hand. "This is a powerful trinket indeed..." He says before turning to show his companions the prayer beads.
When gnome is discovered Sizzle stops him before he can wander off. "Hey pal, we're looking for some kind of automation... you seen any around here."
ooc: do I know what it does?
(If you weren't at the mortuary at the beginning, then no, you probably don't know. Otherwise, you would recognize it as something like Morte.)

With the gnome leaving, Jessa decides to ascend the ladder leading above the chamber where she'd found the gnome.
