Kessintra pulls her hood further over her head, trying to block out the bright morning sun as she listens to the elder's explanation.
"Perhaps we can send Skipper to let her know," she remarks to Garrick, not much feeling like speaking to the duchess. She ponders the 'evil eye', trying to recall if she has heard of such a power before.
Why don't you stay with the travelers and find out what you can. I will go as a representative of our group to let her know. We need to collect the reward in any case. Garrick then goes to the Duchess to inform her they will lead the travelers away and completing her request. In a few hours, every single traveler will be gone from your city. They have a job for us and we agreed to help them as long as they leave here peacefully and immediately. We would be willing to accept gold or magic items as payment for our services.Garrick then bows to her and awaits her response.
Garrick accepts the gold and returns to the party. Splitting it up and handing out 6gp to each. OOC - Everybody should have added 9gp total now. 3 in advance + 6 now.
I think we are ready to head out, he says to the aged man, lead the way and we will follow.
"Yes, let's be off to this 'land without a sun', as the villagers call it," Kessintra remarks with a smirk, climbing into one of the wagons that has space.
Kessintra peers out into the mist warily. The lack of sunlight irritating her eyes is a relief, but she can still see frustratingly little. She focuses her senses on listening to their surroundings as she grasps her bow.
One of the travelers responds, "This is the normal weather for this part of the woods. It's always like this." Detect magic shows that the fog isn't natural, but isn't magical either.
All Kessintra can see for a long while is trees, but eventually a pair of eyes appears, and then fades as quickly as it came.
Garrick, make a WIS save.

"We're not alone. What kind of creatures usually lurk here?" Kessintra asks the traveler driving her wagon as she nocks an arrow. Whatever it is must be disturbingly quick. She didn't like the look of those eyes; it has the spirits agitated.
"Undead. Ah, good thing we have two clerics." Kessintra wasn't sure how much use her physical attacks would be on ghosts; she'd never been able to get rid of the ones stuck to her, obviously. She did still have a vial of holy water from her last attempt though.
You feel an undead presence out in the forest. Your eyes dart over, but it's only a bat hanging from a tree.
The mist slowly starts to fade, but there is no bright sunlight to replace it. Overcasts cover the sun, preventing it's rays from fully reaching you. Kessintra, until you all can create your own sunlight, you may ignore sunlight sensitivity. "Well," the old man speaks up, "welcome to the valley of Barovia. We've still got quite a ways to go before we reach Madame Eva." The only thing in your sights is the trees, wagons, and a gate in the distance.

Kessintra is tempted to loose her arrow at the bat as they pass, but refrains since it makes no move to attack. As they enter the comfortably dim valley, she pulls her hood down, appreciating that she can look around without pain.
Some kind of sorcerery? wonders Chipper at the Evil Eye. He shrugs it off for now though. These Vistani seemed friendly enough for now.
"An undead bat?" he when Zan senses it, "I sure hope garlic bread is a popular food in town." He sends Skipper up in the air to keep an eye out for any more bats. He muses at the dark sky. A boon for his drow companion, but intriguing. "Are we heading for that gate?" he asks the man.

Kessintra can't remember anything similar to the Evil Eye.
The duchess nods along. "A job? Very interesting." She tosses you a small bag with 30 gp. "Thank you for all you've done."

The wagons take off, leaving Leestride behind.....
After a few hours of travel, heavy fog starts to envelop the wagons. You hear thunder in the distance.

Is this type of weather typical for this area? Garrick asks the man. It seems unnatural. He begins to ritual cast detect magic.

Zan, hopefully riding shotgun on one of the wagons, pulls his traveling cloaks hood up, Sounds like we're in for a bit of the liquid sunshine.

Hearing Kess exclaim about seeing eyes and pointing into the fog, Garrick uses mage hand to feel around in the mist where she indicated.
"Well, there's the usual beasts of the forest: wolves and bats and the like. Then there's the undead. Ghosts and all."
Mage hand reveals that nothing is there.
"In any case, we're about to get to the brighter parts of the valley."

At the mention of undead Zan touches his amulet, Kelemvor grant me sight, using eyes of the grave to detect undead within 60 ft
