Dag looks down at the high-spirited gnome as he steps away for a second, drops his greataxe to the floor and proceeds to conjure another identical greataxe. Dag nods, impressed by the gnome's happy display of ability.
"Very impressive little one. I have a feeling you will be a most formidable ally!" he declared with a wide grin, erupting in a low, hearty chuckle.
This is probably the most relaxed he's felt in as long as he could remember, and in the company of strangers no less. Maybe this trip could be the start of something more than he could have ever hoped for.
"Yes!" He pauses "formidable .." His words trail off into silent mutters to himself as he stops moving. Noticing the group moving ahead he reaches down for his greataxe, not paying attention he grabs the illusion. He jumps and looks towards the group making sure no one saw, grabbing his real greataxe, he comes chasing up on the group again.
Elvoril is smiling at the party. It has been ages since he actually had some fun in its life, since now it all has been hard work to find this lead to Greenest.
As the gnome conjures a greataxe on the floor, Elvoril tap gently his quaterstaff on the ground. In an instant the great axe is engulfed by green flame, like a mighty legendary weapon. (OOC: casting minor illusion)
Grixx is impressed and slightly anxious at the sight of the casting as his battles have mainly been physical. He addresses to the group in general. "I must admit, I have never been around so many magic users at one time. How did you first discover that you had these abilities?"
“Magic has always been in my family. My father was an initiate.” says Elvoril. “But only recently I have discovered my potential, to be honest, I’m not completely sure of what I can do. I’m still learning every day.”
Looking towards the large human "I found out I could make things appear from thin air when I fell out of a tree one day." Looking nervously "That bloody bear almost got me until someone looking just like me showed up!" He scratches the top of his head for a minute "Oh oh oh! Guys let's throw him out of a tree and see if he learns any magic!" Fiznik grabs Grixx's leg and tries pulling him towards the forest edge.
*** We should totally do a contested strength check to see if little Fiznik can move Grixx!!
As Fiznik drags Grixx and Silk imparts his words of wisdom in regards to cultivating magical powers, the rest of the party, being several yards ahead, has just made it to the top of the hill and can indeed see Greenest a few short miles in the distance. But instead of the pleasant, welcoming town they expected, they see columns of black smoke rising from burning buildings, running figures that are little more than dots at this distance, and a dark, winged shape wheeling low over the keep that rises above the center of the town. Greenest is being attacked by a dragon!

Hearing the joviality and casual conversation from behind is creating a stark contrast like hot and cold at the same time as Dag looks down at the dark winged shape raining down destruction on the ton of Greenrest unfurling before him as he crests the hill. For long moments he is stunned into shock, unable to move as his mind is taken back to that fateful day, the attack on the temple. Then the warm light of Kossuth begins to blossom in his chest, retuning his attention to the present. His mission, his reason in coming this way. The direction offered by Kossuth in the aftermath of his own destruction.
Silently he holds the prayer book strapped loosely to his belt, closing his eyes and sending a prayer of thanks to the Firelord for his direction and guidance.
'Be with me, that we may cleanse these beasts in your name.' he intones silently.
"Fiznik, I fear that launching Grizz from a tree may have to wait a while longer. Silk, you'll want to see this too. Greenrest is under siege by a Dragon." he looks round to ensure he meets eyes with the entire group.
"Will you stand with me?" He feels the thrill of fear and adrenaline coursing through him but stands firm and resolute in his resolve to lend aid to the town and battle against its' destroyer
Hearing the town is under siege Fiznik instantly lets go of Grixx's leg and tries helping him up. "Come on! We haven't got all day, get your butt up!" He grunts while pushing on Grixx's back trying to sit him up. "Oh no, we must get down there and help!" He gets a firm grip on his greataxe and begins rushing down the path towards the town, greataxe trailing behind. Stopping every so often to pick his greataxe back up when it catches a rock in the path and gets yanked out of his hand.
Elvoril looks at the dragon with mixed emotions. It is terrifying, he can hear screams from the distance and sees houses burning. But this is also good. It means the cult is here, his tip was right. He is getting closer to his preys.
”My friends, this beast is massive. Let’s not rush to it, it would eat us in one second. But we may help by tearing apart their warband. They seem disorganised. Be one with the shadow, and let’s pick out our targets”
Dag looks to Elvoril, torn in his intent. He knows that the man speaks sense, though his emotions threaten to take him down a separate course. He sees again the distress and commotion being caused on the ground though, and his mind his made up.
"Agreed. I am not much for being easily hidden, though I will do what I can. We must help these people in whatever way possible." he concludes solemnly as Fiznik scatters past, rushing towards the to.
Dag pauses for a moment, beckoning to the others before following after the little gnome.

Elvoril takes a bit of distance from the group, just a few meters. With the sun going down, the shadows are getting bigger and darker, helping the half-elf to hide.

Upon seeing the black columns of smoke and an actual dragon besieging it, Silk is stunned. Snapping out of his shock, Silk's first action is to string his bow, while muttering, "...like the orc raids all over again... not this time..."
Silk shades his eyes from the setting sun and takes a good look at the people, little more than dots at this distance. Are they townspeople fleeing in panic or are they raiders besieging the town?
You can see that while most of the moving specks are scattered, near some of the burning areas there appear to be bands of them. You are able to intuit that these more organized throngs are most likely malicious in their intent and that the dragon may not be working alone.
