Despite being focused on the enemies in front of him, Xari can't help notice the lightning arcing from the red-headed elf's fingers and Evelyn savagely... biting another kobold's throat out. Just a day ago, the latter might have disquieted the big man, but apparently no longer after last night.
"Now that looked like it hurt," he drawls at the kobold (G) who had stabbed him. "Getting your neck bitten off and all. My way's more painless for you."
The big man brings his greatsword around in a sideways arc to lop the little reptilian head off the target of his banter.
Movement: 5' E and if his attack slays Kobold G, he continues 5' more E to end up in melee with both Kobolds A and C.
Action: Xari attacks Kobold G with his greatsword: Greatsword to hit Kobold G: 22 Greatsword damage: 15 (slashing) Greatsword Graze Weapon Mastery: on a miss, the target (Kobold G) still takes damage: 4 (slashing)
The massive bladehums through the air, cutting through yet another kobold(G) as if it were made of butter. The kobold's head goes sailing, hitting the ground and rolling to a stop after it bounces off the burning building behind Evelyn.
Mary and Rox team both swing their respective blades at the kobold(C) between them. The goblin's slash is deflected by a cheeky parry from the kobold's dagger, but Mary manages to drag the shortsword across the back of its legs (Melee attack:16 to hit, 4slashing damage), making it yelp in pain.
Hadrianand Evelyn!
(A) has taken 5points of damage (C) has taken 4 points of damage Rox has 6 hit points
With kobold blood already dripping from her chin, Evelyn blinks as she's sprayed further when Xarian decapitates one of the little buggers in front of her. "Ha. Well deserved too." The utterance is spoken with venom. Still trying to blink the blood from her eyes, she stumbles forward towards the nearest kobold. At the last moment she trips over an upturned stone she hadn't seen, and her sharpened claws fall short of reaching her target.
[Action]: Primal Savagery To Hit: 7 (crit fail) [Movement]: 5 NE
As the kobold in front of him falls to a blast of electric energy, Hadrian eyes the one next to him from his periphery. He tosses the hilt to his left hand, and thrusts the blade at the kobold's neck.
Action: Longsword (15 to hit), (11 slashing) - Kobold C
The kobold takes a leisurely step back as Evelyn'slunge falls far too short to reach it. With so many of its comrades fallen at this point however, it doesn't yip or yap excitedly as they had been doing. Shortly after, it becomes the lastkobold in this fight as Hadrian'ssword skewers the other through the throat.
With (C) dead, we come back around to Xarianand Aimon!
Xari swipes almost offhandedly at the final kobold (A) to finish them off, looking to check on Mary and Andy even before the little lizard falls.
Greatsword to hit Kobold A: 15 Greatsword damage: 7 (slashing) Greatsword Graze Weapon Mastery: on a miss, the target (Kobold A) still takes damage: 4 (slashing)
More lightning sparks and dances through Aimon's fingers, but there doesn't seem to be anything left to fling it at. He doesn't let it dissipate though. He holds it there, his eyes scanning the corners of the nearby buildings, alert for any more of the village's assailants.
Perception: 6
(I assumed Xarian's hit was enough to take out the last kobold!)
The blade catches the kobold in the chest, bringing the battle to an end.
"G-gods." Mary mutters, letting the shortsword fall from her hand. "I thought we were..." She shakes her head, pulling her son closer to her. The both of them are shaken, but they seem to be unharmed.
Aimon There doesn't look to be any movement from the nearby buildings at the moment. But you know the raiders are moving through the town with impunity right now. At any moment another group could come waltzing around a corner.
Hadrian tries to shake the pain from his limbs after the fight ends. When that doesn't work, Sir Toban's breathing exercises come to mind. He closes his eyes for a moment, focusing on his lungs. The pain subsides somewhat. He hadn't expected the little reptiles to be so damned quick with their daggers. That wasn't a mistake he'd make again.
Mary's voice brings him back to the current moment. As she trails off, he grins lopsidedly. "Not while we're around. I suppose fate has decreed us to be your guardian angels in these trying times."
"The keep. We were going to get to the keep, can you run?"
"A-as if Helm himself sent you." The woman replies with a shaky laugh, clutching onto her son's shoulder. She takes a moment to collect herself, then nods. "Hold on one moment." Dragging Andy behind her, she very briefly disappears back into the home. When she reappears, she's clutching a small brown bag that she hands over to one of you. "I was just cleaning the place up and found these. I don't know why Leosin had them but..." Inside the bag, you would find 4 potions, you would easily recognize the magical red fluid for what it is.
A soft flapping of small wings overhead signifies the arrival of Ash the owl who settles upon a branch of the large tree between the burning homes, seemingly unfazed. She looks down at the carnage of kobolds below and blinks her moon-like eyes at Xari, who looks up at her with a sigh.
"A fat lot of help, you were," he grumbles up at the owl, who begins to preen herself unconcernedly.
The big man still has his greatsword drawn in one hand. He considers the motley crew of four apparent adventurers, a strange goblin who doesn't know Common, and a civilian mother and her son. Not exactly the most fearsome force against an invading army...
"Do we all agree with Hadrian on making for the keep? I know I do. We need to stick together, all of us. There are far worse than kobolds out there. We already saw men at arms, robed figures, and those scaly blue drakes that look like small wingless blue dragons."
He wonders why he is flapping his own gums so much. Shouldn't he just keep quiet and follow? But part of Xari has become unmoored from himself after the events of the last twenty-four hours. So he plows onward verbally as he accepts a Potion of Healing from the bag and stows it in his pack.
"Question is, can we try to sneak through back ways to get there and avoid trouble? I know I am no good at that in my armor, though Evelyn's magic helped. And how much do we try to gather other townsfolk to bring them to the keep? Do we go back to the Bent Bow and take the folks there with us?"
Hadrian raises an eyebrow, turning to glance at Evelyn as the small bag of potions is revealed. "What sort of business did you say this man was away on?"Regardless of whether or not he gets an answer, he accepts one of potions and pops the stopper off, drinking it immediately. A slight grimace follows. He'd never particularly cared for the taste.
He listens as Xarian speaks, then nods his head in general agreement. "You didn't do that bad, we managed to sneak up on these guys anyway." He says, gesturing to the scattered kobold corpses. "But yes, I think trying to avoid groups of these raiders as much as possible is a good plan."
"If we come across someone in need we stop to help...Otherwise we push ahead for the keep, I don't like the idea of leading these two into further danger. Once we have them safe we can return to the inn to escort the others."
Aimon opens his mouth to suggest a detour to check on his storehouse, but he quickly realises he already knows what the answer will be. He will just have to check once all this is over and deal with the consequences. He senses some fast talking with disappointed clients in his future.
Instead, he simply nods and says, "To the keep. As quickly and quietly as we can."
He would leave the remaining potions to the others, seeing they are still bruised and battered.
As the young nobile had done, Evelyn opens the potion and drinks it, tossing the empty vial to the side when finished. When Aimon doesn't step forward to claim one, she takes it and tosses it to Hadrian. "Drink up lordling, you make a pretty good punching bag for these yippers."
She makes no disagreement to their plan. When they prepare to leave, she once again steps up to Xarian, laying a hand on his arm to impart magical guidance. Then she'll fall into the same marching order as before, right behind Hadrian.
"Ha. Funny."Hadrian says as he catches the potion. He doesn't smile. For now he pockets the heaing draught, to save for an emergency. Gods knew, there were bound to have one of those before the night was up. If the others are ready to go he takes point again, enchanted eyes peeled for more raider as he leads the group to the keep as unseen as he can.
The noblemanturned adventurer once again heads up the party, finding the perfect shadows for the group to move through. Chaos reigns over Greenest's streets. You pass several groups of raiders, more bodies of the townfolk and city guard, and ransacked or burning homes.
As you come to a stop between two buildings, Hadrianpeeks around the corner to the west.
Three kobolds move in and out of the home to your right, depositing loot onto the yard. Beyond them, a family of three is being lead south by a robed figure, their hands bound behind their backs. With the flickering firelight, you can just make out the deep blue of the cultist's robes. They wear a half-mask, the snarling horned visage unmistakably modeled after a blue dragon.
Do you wait for the raiders to finish and move on, or intervene?
Hadrian retreats back behind the corner after peeking out onto the street, saying quietly to his companions: "Another group, smaller this time though, only four. Three kobolds and one human I think. They have prisoners." Prisoners. People in need. He points at Rox, then to Mary and Andy. "Stay with them."He says slowly, as if that would help the goblin understand him. If no one stops him with a better idea, he'll step around the corner, brandishing his longsword.
