For the chase sequence, you can dash a number of times equal to 3 + CON modifier. Additional dashes require a DC 10 CON save or you suffer 1 point of exhaustion.
At the end of each round, the quarries will individually make a stealth check, which fails automatically if they're never out of the lead pursuer's sight.
Going off the last map, Kellanor Farrawill end up as the initial lead. The specific group of ambushers you're after are to the northeast, heading into the treeline. You can currently see 8 of them. Based on Kellan's previous survey of the land, 50 ft from the road the terrain becomes difficult. The area is still lightly obscured by fog, and if you don't have dark vision it becomes heavily obscured once you cross out of the torches' light radius.
We'll say they have a 40 ft start on you. They're all generally heading in the same direction (north east), but beginning to fan out. From your passive perception alone, you can't tell which of them is carrying someone away.
Kellan dashes after the cultists, knowing they will run into the difficult terrain he saw earlier at some point if they keep heading in the same direction. He just has to keep them in sight until then.
Farra feels a warm radiance spread through her as her wound heals, and she responds to Kellan with a grateful nod just before he takes off. Ever light on her feet, she sprints after the others.
Kellandashes into the middle of three of the cultists as they try to make their escape. As he looks for signs of Andy, he quickly realizes that all three of them seem to be carrying a body. The other five are too obscured by fog for him to tell just at a glance. Whether they're alive or just unconscious, he can't tell. One of the cultists glances over their shoulder, and upon spotting the paladin dashes straight eastward into the trees(40ft to treeline, 10ft past treeline due to difficult terrain).
Hadrian briefly glances at Rox, surprised at the ferocity of the small goblin and his willingness to fight. He catches the goblins eyes, and jerks his head towards the fleeing cultists before moving to follow Xarian. Partway there he splits off, veering up the road to try and pincer the group.
In the midst of bounding forward, Farra hesitates for a moment as Kellan calls out to her. "I trust that you can reach him, I'll look amongst the others!" She calls back as she runs past, heading, sprinting through the gap between Xarian and Hadrian.
As Farradashes forward, the two other cultists left on the road make a break for the treeline. Cursing in goblin, Rox tries their best to follow Hadrian onto the road to give chase.
The group of cultists begin to reach the treeline, and are just barely within the range of Farraand Kellan'sdark vision. As they continue to spread out, you quickly realize it's going to become nearly impossible to keep track of all them at the same time.
Top of the round: All 8 cultists automatically fail their stealth checks due to being in line of sight. Kellanis up.
Kellan keeps his focus on cultist (F) and moves to the edge of the difficult terrain before stopping and gripping his amulet. The aasimar's eyes blaze gold as he utters an incantation and sends a bolt of radiance flying towards the fleeing figure. 'Please...Lyla...'
Action: guiding bolt on Cultist F to hit 16, 15 radiant damage
A golden bolt of light zips across the wooded terrain, slamming into the fleeing cultist's back. They don't even cry out as they crumple, and the small figure they were carrying on their shoulder doesn't stir as they're dropped onto the ground.
Hadrian curses his eyes as the cultists leave the torchlight. He briefly turns around and retraces his steps to pull one of the lit torches from the ground. "Keep going that way Farra! That one has a child!" Though he knows he's already wasted precious time going back for the torch, he dashes to cut off the cultist.
Xari is vaguely aware of Farra tearing along in the same northeasterly direction into the woods that he is, and of Hadrian doubling back for a torch. Kellan somewhere to the right of him, casting some dazzling magic at another of the cultists who might be holding a child. All happening too fast.
Too fast... always happening too fast for me...
The big man slows to a more normal pace and, grasping his greatsword in his off hand, pulls a javelin from the brace at his back and hurls it sidearm.
Movement: Xari jogs after Cultist D (normal movement) 25' NE --> 5' E (ending up 5' SE of Farra and 20' SW of Cultist D)
Free object interaction: Xari draws a javelin from the brace at his back, holding his greatsword in one hand.
Action: Xari throws a javelin (regular range 30') at Cultist D who is now 20' NE of him. Javelin to hit: 13 Javelin damage: 8 (piercing) Javelin Weapon Mastery (Slow): If you hit a creature with a Javelin and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.
OoC: Quite fortunate that Hadrian decided to pick up that torch. ;-)
As Hadrianadvances into the dark with his torch, the line of cultists retreating to the north are illuminated by the outer radius of dim light it throws off. Xari follows shortly behind, hurling a javelin at the cultist carrying a child now visible to him. The thrown weapon catches the cultist in the calf, and causing them to stumble as they run ahead.
Five of the cultists(D,A,C,G,H) dash into the woods, slowed down by the increased tree density, but also becoming harder to hit at a distance(Half Cover, +2 to AC and DEX Saving throws).
Farrais up!
As you leave the torchlight lit road, the area becomes shrouded in darkness. The radius of your characters' dark vision is indicated by the white circle overlays. The bright light of Hadrian's torch is indicated in yellow, and the dim light in orange.
Just as it seems the cultist might escape you...An arrow flies through the darkness, catching them in the back. Their body and the person they carried both fall to the ground beyond the trees. Rox keeps moving forward as fast as his legs will carry him.
Three cultists (G,A,E) are still within your sight, automatically failing their stealth checks.
Two cultists (B, C) disappear into the darkness and trees.
Another (H) is trying to make their own escape, but they're making an awful lot of racket as they stampede through the brush.
Back to a point where Kellan, Hadrian, and Xariare in the same block. You're up folks!
Kellan will move forward through the difficult terrain as far as he can without dashing, not wanting to get too far away from the child that Cultist F dropped. Still, he wants to try to take down as many as he can. All the noise Cultist H is making draws the aasimar's attention and he murmurs another incantation.
Action: sacred flame on Cultist H, Dex DC 15 or 1 radiant damage -.-

ooc: same initiative order right?
OoC: I'll wait to hear Kellan's answer on whether he's still dashing this turn or doing something else.
Chase Scene: Current layout (it breaks with previous narration, but every cultist in your line of sight is currently 40-50 ft from Kellan)
Kellan dashes into the middle of three of the cultists as they try to make their escape. As he looks for signs of Andy, he quickly realizes that all three of them seem to be carrying a body. Xarian, and Hadrian are up.
Heart pounding and the characteristic uncertainty in his face replaced with anger at the apparent kidnapping, Xari dashes northeast after the cultists.
Movement: 35' NE --> 20' E --> 5' NE so he ends up just 5' north of Cultist E, 5' east of Cultist G and 5' southwest of Cultist H
(Passive Perception 13 to see who is carrying bodies and if so, how large the bodies appear to be).

Movement: 5 E -> 10 NE -> 10 E -> 30 NE
Between the three of you(Had, Xari, and Kellan) getting in between their ranks, you're able to discern the following:
Time for Farra!
Kellan shouts to Farra as she moves closer. "The one straight ahead of me has a child! I think I can take him out with a spell though!"
In the midst of bounding forward, Farra hesitates for a moment as Kellan calls out to her. "I trust that you can reach him, I'll look amongst the others!" She calls back as she runs past, heading, sprinting through the gap between Xarian and Hadrian.
Action: Dash, full movement northeast.
As Farra dashes forward, the two other cultists left on the road make a break for the treeline. Cursing in goblin, Rox tries their best to follow Hadrian onto the road to give chase.
