Tarysaa's magical fire hits Blue Spot with great precision and the monster, evidently unaccustomed to the experience of its own burning flesh, frantically tries to extinguish itself with its webbed hands. It now seems on the verge of collapse...
Scarred Cheek meanwhile, unable to get any closer, throws his harpoon at Ardana, perhaps hoping to catch her unprepared.
But catching Ardana off guard while she's focused on the battle is a desperate feat - the tiefling paladin takes a nimble sidestep and completely avoids the harpoon's large barb.
Zevriel wastes no time—seeing Blue Spot stagger from wounds, he drives his twinblade in with a clean, merciless cut (24 to hit, 8 plus 10 sneak attack). The blade slips between the monster’s ribs, finishing the fight with brutal efficiency. (I'm assuming, please let me know if you'd prefer we don't go this far in our descriptions.)
He steps forward over the corpse, blades still spinning (Dex check 15 for +2AC), and lashes out at Scarred Cheek with a sharp, taunting flourish (16 to hit, 8 slashing). Each move is measured, meant to draw the last Merrow’s attention and keep it off-balance.
With a steady step, Zevriel falls back into formation, blades raised, ready to finish the fight and shield his friends.
Action: Attack Bluey, attack roll 24 for 18 damage Move: move to Scarred Cheek, 5 feet diagonal on difficult terrain (10ft), moving back same way onto difficult terrain after the attack counting the second diagonal double (20ft). Note, no AoO from the Merrow due to Fancy Footwork. Bonus: Attack Cheeky, attack roll 16 for 8 damage Free: Whirl special action from weapon, Dex 15 for +2 AC until start of next turn.
Fancy Footwork When you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you learn how to land a strike and then slip away without reprisal. During your turn, if you make a melee attack against a creature, that creature can’t make opportunity attacks against you for the rest of your turn.
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Ardana is very satisfied at the skill of her new comrade at arms, but the line must move forward. She moves forward (2 left and 1 down) to engage the last marrow, bringing her sword down in an overhand strike.
Scarred Cheek retrieves the harpoon he had tried to stab Ardana with, pulling it towards him with a rope that was secured to the handle of the same, but in the meantime the tiefling paladin has approached and her overhand strike forces the Merrow to a desperate dive to the side.
The blade comes down quickly and grazes the monster on the tail fin. The ogre-fish grimaces in pain but tries to continue fighting.
DC 13 Wisdom Saving Throw: 7. If failed, it takes 1 psychic damage and has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.
DC 14 Constituion Saving Throw: 22. If failed, it takes 3 cold damage and has disadvantage on the next weapon attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.
Moving up behind Mival, Tarysaa spies the last visible merrow as it evades spells and blows in it's mission to attack the group. With a twist of her hand and an arcane phrase that sounds more curse than chant, three darts of energy leap forth, streaking to slam into the merrow's body.
With a nod of her head after seeing the force darts impale the merrow, she finishes by moving to situate herself behind Paqen (their right) in the northeastern corner of the main 'room'.
The missiles of pure magical energy summoned by Tarysaa land with precision, following the Merrow even as he tries to dive to the side to avoid them.
The ogre-fish gets up wounded in three places and is visibly in difficulty... that's when Mival launches herself forward, arms raised, trying to finish him off with a double Slam from above.
Scarred Cheek's hard scales resist the first of the powerful blows, but give way under the second. There is an ominous crunch of breaking bones and the last Merrow goes down with a loud splash.
The Doppelganger-hero's green eyes turn, elated, to seek out Ardana's at his side: "We won! Once again! We are tough!"
Gratz! Combat won! You may act outside of rounds now.
Tarysaa moves over to the last merrow to see if it is unconscious or fully dead. A living merrow to question would be handy. Where they came from. Why they were hunting here. What they had expected to find instead of the group.
Medicine: 13
It does not take but a moment to determine the merrow is beyond reviving. Turning to the others, she asked, "Might it be wise to remove ourselves from this place before any more merrow show up; giving us a secure place to rest and recover before attempting to locate the underground breech?"
Zevriel lowers his twinblade, breathing hard, watching the blood and bubbles settle in the water. He scans the room, shoulders finally relaxing when no more enemies appear. He slings the blade across his back and moves among his companions, giving each a quick once-over.
“Anyone hurt bad?” he asks, voice steady, more concerned with who’s fit to fight than offering comfort. He makes mental note of cuts and bruises, watching for anyone who looks too worn to keep going. “We still good to fight, if we have to?”
He sits back on his heels, glancing at the shallow water around them. “Could rest here. Not too deep—feels safe enough. I could sleep, if folks need it. But… I don’t know the way out. Got sent here by magic, haven’t seen the rest. Is it far? Any trouble on the way?”
He waits for someone else to lay out a plan, plain and patient, ready to do whatever needs doing next.

"Nothing serious!" smiles Mival, clearly galvanized by the success of the party against a gang of aquatic giants "No problem resting here - with the three bodies of these monsters we can even build a sort of 'island' and sleep dry... Maybe a little macabre, but rather than sleeping in 2' of water..."
"If you'd rather go out, it's not like the path we took is long..." the Doppelganger recalls, waving toward the vast, flooded corridor that extends generally westward. "But we took it in a fiendish helmsman's boat, just to be safe. We weren't attacked on the boat. But it's possible that if we swim on our way back, some monsters might be tempted to 'taste' us instead."
[[ OOC: I notice that neither qalsip1977 (Elias' player) nor Coniferous_Connor (Paqen's player) have been posting for 10 days... And not just on this thread - they haven't posted in any D&D Beyond threads. Maybe they just went on vacation... but they might have as well left D&D Beyond. For now, until they start posting again, let's assume the two heroes will go along with what the rest of the party decides and if any new combat breaks out I'll decide their actions. ]]
We have seen that we are unlikely to get rest here, we need to return to the surface and the town to get rest. But to pay the ferryman will cost coin, and then we will need to pay again when we return. We should collect what valuables we have found here and exchange them in the village for coin. This is an expensive endeavor.
"We didn't find much treasure..." Mival thinks back. "But there was the armory. If we take all the weapons on the way back, maybe we could sell them in Rassalantar. They may not be new, but they still work... they should be valuable, especially for the Waterdeep garrison tasked with defending the village!"
"So..." he is already putting his hands to his mouth, but waits for confirmation "shall we call Geados?"
[[ OOC: Since this is a decision about what the party does, I'm waiting for feedback from you, players... whether you agree with Mival's latest proposal or not, make it clear... ]]

[[ OOC: Taking Paqen and Elias' turns ]]
The kenku druid and the human bard move so they can see the last enemy and again focus their magical powers against him. Again cutting words insinuate that the Merrow now resembles a crushed herring in a barrel, while another wave of frost tries to dampen the ogre-fish's fighting spirit.
