The pink tiefling gives a sharp, confident smile, appearing to have no regard at all for the other applicants as he sprays a bit of perfume on himself in preparation for meeting Quentin. He follows after Liriel, taking in the sights of the casino along the way.
Follow me, she said and led the party through the slot machines and past a live race track, the runners being rats. It had gained quite the following with people are going crazy with their betting.. She steps forward to a closed door marked as employees only and touches her pass to a magical sigil on the doorframe. She opened the door and ushered them in, then took them to the second door on the right. She knocked and at a call from within, opened the door. Quentin we have 3 more potentials, they are all seeking employment, shall I show them in?
One at at time Liriel. Thank you.
Quentin sat down and opened his ledger, it showed the staff he was short.
"I can go first," Exa volunteers and steps forward. She pretends to adjust her clothes and her hair to make herself presentable for her prospective new employer.
The white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress simply nods and waits for her turn, gracefully moving around to discreetly observe while the tiefling with the broken horn gets interviewed.
"Hello there," Exa says in a voice a little deeper than her usual. Her tiefling tail writhes excitedly behind her. She finds the tiefling form easy to step into, given she doesn't have to get used to something like a tail. In fact she laments the thought of ever having to take a form without one; that would be quite the adjustment.
"I'm Rubika, but you can call me Rubi if you like. I'm here about a position on your gaming tables. Need someone to sling cards or throw dice? I'm your gal," she grins. It's the same toothy grin she bears in her own form, but the fangs as Rubika are slightly more pointed and demonic.
Good Rubi will do. I'll put you on cards, Twenty Ones, then if that works well, we'll see about a dice table, unless you are happy at the card table. Now lets see, the sign about rules in the Afterlife is written for you not just the clients. No cheating. If you spot a customer with a method, or cheating you are to report it to security and they'll take over. Also no pacts with devils, we leave that for the customers.
He writes in his ledger, Surname? Are you a refugee? Do you need some money up front? We have a converted barn at Havensend that we have taken over for barracks. You can chose to sleep there or find your own accommodation. Pay is 1 silver a day and you get to keep any tips.
Spend today looking around the Casino. Get a feel about our customers. Liriel will take you all to the laundry for uniforms. Come back tomorrow ready to work. The laundry cleans all of our uniforms so don't take them to anyone else.
Welcome to the Afterlife Casino family.
He gestures to the door, show the next one in please.
The white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress simply nods and to the tiefling with the broken horn as she leaves the short interview.
"Hi there, I am Lilith, just Lilith." The white-haired tiefling lady says with a most pleasant smile. "You will have the best use of me as a escort for your most prominent guests and I will make sure they will spend a fortune here and still happily come back for more." She says with a calm confident smile. "I will prove my worth to you before you need to pay me any wages." She adds with similar confidence.
Most of my prominent guests are playing three dragon ante in Cania, no watchers allowed, neither mine nor theirs.
I do have a vacancy for a greeter hostess like Liriel, though I do like your idea. Let's say that we give it a go. You'll be based in Avernus as a hostess, there are some copper slots and 21 card tables there as well as a comfortable recreation area. We'll try it your way for one week and if it doesn't work we'll just turn you into a Greeter hostess. Agreed?
Pay is 1 silver per day and you keep the tips. Accommodation is provided in Havensend at the barracks unless you wish to stay at the inn.
You'll have to wear the standard uniform, pick it up from the laundry. Get a good look around the Avernus themed part of the Casino and welcome to the Afterlife Casino Family!
"Agreed!" The white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress says with a soft confident smile and gracefully turns to leave.
"I think it's your turn." She says to the last tiefling, giving him a discreet wink. She then tries to find her way to the laundry, comparing what she sees with the map that she had memorized. Once in the laundry she would keep a lookout for zhent badges and anything else that might help Kyreth pass off as a zhent.
Mavilius approaches Quentin with a confident smile and a flourish of his lute, strumming a playful, infernal-tinged melody that fits the casino’s atmosphere perfectly. “Master Quentin, a pleasure,” he says with a slight bow. “I’m Mavilius—a bard with a taste for spectacle. I simply couldn’t resist the charming idea of a hells-themed casino and thought I’d inquire about a position.”
His golden eyes gleam with mischief as he continues, “I’d love to perform here, particularly in the circus if possible. Music and illusion paired with trained animals? The thrill alone would pack the house and keep the coin flowing.”
He leans back and sighs. The Cirque Maladomini is a sub contractor, a family affair. I'm afraid that your dream of working for them has come to nought.
He writes in his ledger, what's your surname?
I do however have an opening for a bard in Nessus. To play whilst patrons dine. A good place for tips. From what I hear of your music I'd say that you would do nicely. What say you? Give it a go? You'd have to wear a uniform, rather than your current clothing.
Pay is one silver a day and you keep all tips
If you need lodgings there is a barrack of ours in Havensend or an inn if you want privacy.
Liriel will take you to the laundry to pick up new uniforms. Then to have a look around the Casino, you'll be interested in the acoustics.
His smile falters for just a heartbeat, the disappointment flickering in his eyes at the mention of the Cirque Maladomini being out of reach. “Ah, a pity. Still, playing in the deepest level of the hells? That has a certain poetry to it.”
He straightens with renewed enthusiasm. “Surname? Mavreus,” he replies smoothly, making it up on the spot. With a deep, appreciative bow and a grin that’s far too pleased to be entirely innocent, he adds, “Thank you for the opportunity. I’ll be uniformed and punctual. And yes, very curious about the acoustics.”
As he follows Liriel out with a jaunty step, the grin lingers.
Welcome to the family, she smiles and gestures you to join her in the corridor. Lilith had disappeared. Let's get you your uniforms and I'll tell you about the various Hells whilst we walk. Here take this map and familiarise yourselves with the Casino.
First this is the employees only section of the Casino. The office next to Quentins is the Clerks office (A15), it's normally left open so you can check the Ledger to see any alterations to your allocated duties. She moves past Quentins office.
Here is the employees lounge (A13) This room is sixty feet long by fifty feet wide. A long table surrounded by ten chairs takes up the center of the room, and the far corners each hold a couch, two cushioned chairs, and a coffee table. The two Teiflings sitting there just nodded and went back to what they are doing.
Opposite we have the Security office (A16), our eyes in the sky. We'll need to stop here for your passes. Liriel knocks on the door until a voice says Come then she opens the door and ushers them in. Morning Smithy she says and casts him a smile. We need 3 passes for the new employees.
Five desks face the west wall, which is covered with mirrors. Each mirror on the wall corresponds to a security mirror elsewhere in the casino, and whatever is happening within line of sight of the mirrors is displayed here. Three tiefling security guards monitor the mirrors. You also see the room beyond and a cell door. They had their own jail.
The one called Smithy stands up to greet Liriel and then goes to rummage in a drawer. He hands you each a card and the third in trust of Liriel, To gain entry touch the pass to the sigil on the doorframe. Any questions?
Kyreth negotiates with the inn keeper to take the small common room with four beds and an evening meal and breakfast included. He assumes that the disguise spells will run out and have to be recast. His party needed the space to make sure that no-one sees Exa and Delilah. His deal was for 1 silver for the room and board per night.
The room is small, some would say cozy, the beds well made with bright quilts. The whole room smells of flowers.
He heads downstairs to sit by the fire drinking peppermint tea. He wondered how the rest had got on.
The bard gives a slight curious frown, wondering where Lilith got off to, but doesn't find it cause for concern. She's clever to say the least, so surely whatever she's doing will help them gather information. He follows Liriel, taking in the sights and studying the map.
"Ah, how convenient."He takes one of the passes with a smile. "I see you have a cell. I hope it isn't needed often."
Exa pays close attention to Liriel's tour and plans to check the map they were given with the one Verity provided to see what differences there may be.
Once in the security room, she accepts the pass with a grateful nod.
"Thanks, sir."
She makes a careful study of Smithy's appearance, shrewdly eyeing him over.
"There must be places that are off limits, even with there right?" she waves her new access card.
He stood up straighter as Exa called him sir. Yes, there is no entry on the door behind me, it leads to the Vault. You'll only be entering there accompanied by Quentin or not at all.
As for the cell, it's for people who have been caught cheating, which happens more often than you think. There's always someone who thinks they can get away with it.
Come, let us go and find Lilith, I think she'd want to tour what's left of the Casino with us. She went back into the corridor and opened a door that lead to a hallway.
You can hear animals shaking bars from the room just in front of you (A12). Here are the animals to the Cirque Maladomini she says quietly opening the door. Cages surround the walls, baboons, dogs and a lion can be seen within. Two Teifling acrobats can be seen practising, they stop and stare at you. Even Liriel was frowned at.
The animals enter the showground through a small tunnel. There are shows every 4 hours. I'd suggest watching one of the sessions before tomorrow. she says.
They walk down the corridor and exit from the employees only area. Here on the left is the showground (A8), A traditional ringed seating area
reaches up into the air, cut from the stone itself, it has a spell on it so the noise doesn't annoy the clients outside the ring.
She nods to her right, a fancy bar is set up, Bar Malbolge, (A5) featuring two bars and plenty of plush, comfortable chairs and cushions.
She walked straight ahead, over the river, then down a corridor. There was a spiral staircase cut into the rock. This is the staircase leading to Nessus and the restaurant where you'll be working Mavilius. She continues on and enters the door straight ahead.
Here this is the laundry. A Teifling at each vat can be seen washing uniforms.
The chief washerwoman Stella walks up to Lorelei and says Uniforms for two or three? We have someone here asking about them, goes by the name of Lilith
Yes she's one of mine, Liriel nods.
Stella turned to her shelves and uniforms stacked by size. Here, come and get fitted. She draws out an old tape measure.

"Rubika Zhorr," she says, offering her surname with a pleased grin, grateful for the job offer.
"Not a refugee. Just wanted... a change of pace," she explains.
"I'll find myself a spot in the barracks. You won't be disappointed, sir!"
She snaps her fingers in a show of excitement, spins on her heel and steps back outside.
