"Ah yes, extermination by those who they have chained and shackled, how fitting?" The white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress says with an amused smile. "I can think of wishes worse used."
"Yes, and with no way to trace it back to us. A simple...workplace accident." He chuckles, but seems to grow tired of the dark topic. "Kyreth, perhaps we can forge a letter of recommendation for you. I'm sure Althea has some intercepted Zhent messages laying around that we could use for handwriting samples."
"I've been thinking" he looks at the others "Yes, it happens occasionally" he quips.
"After losing the murkmere stone job, and a press-gang being taken out, they may be feeling a little cautious, and maybe suspecting a leak. I'm thinking that an investigator from another Zhent cell could be a plausible cover."He pauses "People get a little bit twitchy when they think they're under suspicion; they tend to be very helpful."
During their trip, in a moment where they are left alone with only their own company, Exa activates her new hat by running her fingers along the brim. When she does, the same tiefling from the map room appears, complete with the broken horn.
"If we have time, I might be able to forge a letter for you,"she offers quietly to Kyreth.
You reach Havensend and the ferry man stops his horse, the small barge coming to a halt. Remember to give your boatman 2 coppers for traversing the Styx. Have a good time. the ferryman said.
Before you are several punts each attended by a Teifling wearing black robes with the hood up. Their eyes glow eerily at you. Time to break the party up or make last minute preparations like the letter for Kyreth. You'd need to steal a Zhents brooch, so a quick look in the laundry in the Casino. There's always one person who leaves things on their clothes.
"I like the idea with forging a letter but it has to be good or Kyreth might not be able to participate. Also the letter would have to be written before Kyreth arrives at the casino right?"The white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress says. "Perhaps the rest of us can find something useful to the ruse inside the casino and Thistle can bring that out to Kyreth who is waiting outside."
I'll stay here at Havensend, find some accomodation and a decent breakfast, they might even have tea he muses. The town should be lousy with Teiflings from the Casino. I never saw accomodation on that map. I'll try to find a common room and book it. unless you plan on sleeping in the stables. Meet me at the inn later, I'll be next to the fire.
One of the oarsman asks you Are you seeking passage across the Styx to the Afterlife Casino? I can only take two at a time he gestures towards his punt. Then calls to one of the others who steers to come aside you.
"Sounds good Kyreth, Thistle will seek you out as soon as we have something for you, until then find a good place to stay and enjoy yourself."The white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress says with a smile to the blue-skinned tiefling.
"Yes, to the Afterlife Casino." Lilith says with calm confidence, gracefully stepping into the first punt, trying to make herself comfortable there.
The ferrier ably navigates your boat downriver and into an underground channel. As the cave mouth swallows you, you hear music over the echo of a distant waterfall.
The cave's ceiling rises high above your heads, and dancing lights bob around hanging stalactites. The river winds through the casino floor, splitting the cavernous chamber in two and passing under arched stone bridges at various points. Card tables and other gaming stations surrounded by chattering patrons fill the open space. A cheer rises from deeper in the cavern, which is decorated to suggest excitement, opportunity, and excess.
The ferrier steers your boat toward the left bank, and your boat rocks as it bumps up against a wooden dock. The ferrier then raises one hand, gesturing at the glittering sights before you, and intones in a deep, raspy voice: "Welcome to the Afterlife. Temptation awaits."
"Be my guests," Exa says with a shallow nod to 'Dahlia' and Manvilius. She tries to downplay how well she knows her fellow 'tieflings' in front of the oarsman.
Now to find Master Quentin Togglepocket's office to find a job here. You notice that all the staff are wearing a uniform, black pants and a red jacket.
The party finds itself at the entrance to Afterlife, a young Teifling woman looks them up and down. They were obviously not wealthy patrons. Can I help you? Do you need tokens for the copper slots?
As they arrive at the Afterlife Casino, the white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress gracefully steps out of the punt and onto the wooden dock. She looks around and lets herself be seen and appreciated, then looks over at the Tiefling greeter. "Ah yes, as a matter of fact I am." She says with a warm and pleasant smile, ready to follow along, although her curious eyes discreetly makes note of details along the way, comapting them to the map she had committed to mind.
Exa wears her illusory tiefling form with excitement. She had adopted the same appearance as the first time she had shown it off, complete with her one broken horn.
"Yes ma'am," she says with an eager nod. "I've heard the Afterlife is the place to be. You have any vacancies on the tables?"She clasps her hands together and stretches them in a show of limbering up her deft fingers for dealing dice and cards.
Quentin allocates jobs depending on skillset. If you're good with cards or dice you can definitely find a vacancy here. Come with me I'll take you to his office. He'll want to see you one at a time. Then I'll take you all to get a new uniform.
The white-haired tiefling lady in the red dress gives the other two applicants a scrutinizing look as if she didn't know them, then giving Liriel the greeter a nod and a pleasant smile, her tail swaying expectantly, ready to follow along for her interview with calm confidence.
