It's been a minute since I've played an honest to goodness bard. I'd love to do something in that realm. Perhaps a dirge singer or organist to fit the tone. Or subvert the tone with a jester or comedian.
Species doesn't really matter to me, but I also think that making them outwardly sort of frumpy and out of shape would be entertaining. Keep the high charisma, but make it all internal charm.
Cassian is a young human paladin whose soft voice and nervous stammer belie a quiet strength. Though shy and often unsure of himself, he is steadfast in his resolve to protect others, believing even the most broken soul deserves hope. His oath is not to the gods; it’s a promise to himself and the world to be better than the shadows that haunt him. He is particularly sympathetic to anyone deemed 'cursed'...regardless of whether it is technically true.
Greetings! I began this adventure as a player once but we didn't make it very far at all. I thought it was an interesting story and would love to try again!
My character would be a folklorist, incensed by tales of the supernatural, who has spent years chasing down the roots of dark legends. What began as an academic pursuit (collecting eerie myths, forgotten lullabies, and warnings scrawled in the margins of old tomes) soon became an obsession. He sought not just to understand these stories, but to experience them. Each encounter, and chilling revelation, has drawn him closer to the border of the Shadowfell. Maybe a cursed book or an ancient rhyme too oft-repeated caused something unseen to take notice. He has glimpsed shapes moving in the periphery of lantern light and felt unseen eyes watching from behind. The deeper he delves, the thinner the veil becomes...
Mechanically he'll be a bard (eventually lore subclass). Species and background TBD.
Illiana is a witch of the wilds, living on the fringes of civilised society. She's sought after for her healing poultices and blessings for the land, but rumours abound about her true nature so once her work is done, her welcome is worn out. She doesn't mind. She likes her time alone in the darker parts of the woods where the trees and critters whisper ghostly tales on the wind.
Hello! I'd like to bring a spooky character into this even more spooky adventure.
One class I haven't really played much is warlock, and so I would like the chance to play one. I'm currently leaning towards a melee warlock, pact of the blade invocation from level 1, and probably fiend subclass eventually.
Full details tbc but their involvement will be their patrons doing, just they don't realise. They are being manipulated into a position where (upon reaching level 3) they have no choice but to "sell their soul" to the devil who has been 'freely' giving some power to tempt them (seeing as its now a bit ridiculous that you get pact magic before forming a pact)
I would like to play a sorcerer, maybe a drow who escaped darkness just to find more darkness, or a gnome who is a reluctant hero and scared of his own shadow.

I know that a lot of folks aren't as active over the weekends, so I'd like to give this recruitment thread a few more days before selecting the final roster.
I plan on keeping recruiting open until Wednesday, April 2nd.

Kurobash is your typical orc hippie, ie druid. Splitting his time between caring for the beast of burden with his village as well as the creatures of the wild around the village. Some of the birds were telling him of a strange mist that just felt odd to them, so he decided to investigate.
Rats, a kobold (or halfling if you're not feeling kobolds) ranger with a pet cockroach (familiar and eventual beast master companion). He 's naive, young, and believes his pet cockroach is a living manifestation of the spark of life. Rats is desperate to prove his belief and is following that desperation to places where he shouldn't go.

@Began772003, Could you flesh these out a bit? I'd like to hear a bit more about what you had in mind.
I think a Dhampir Cleric would be very interesting. Someone who used to prioritize healing and helping, but after being changed, had their ideals changed with it. And now they seek revenge in a sense for the one that changed them. Trying to track down and kill them. Thinking either Death or Grave domain, but I can swap to a 2024 class if it's a strict 2024 class.
Filth. Maggot. Street Trash. Gutter Rat. For some reason, Gutter Rat hurt more than the others. Perhaps it was the disgustingly intimate knowledge he had of them, eating dead and rotten things, crawling through filth unimaginable, existing in places abandoned by all other living things; perhaps they weren't wrong.
The street urchin lived a life (if you could call it that) balanced on the edge of a knife. Fear and hunger were constant companions. He begged for copper in the streets to survive, and stole when the hunger became unbearable. It was on one such night that Gooterat discovered his power.
He was caught. He was sloppy and it was going to cost him his life. He was still holding the small sack of coins when the city guard leveled a crossbow at him and fired. He could tell by the look in his bloodshot eyes that this was not going to end up in a report. He would kill the Gutter Rat, take the coin, and say that the boy had escaped. Who would notice one less rat in the alley? As this became clear to him in his final moments, anger rose up within him. The rage pushed aside the fear. To this man he was nothing, less than nothing. No. NO. NO!!!!!!!!! He cried out in righteous fury, releasing in this moment the pain and anger of a lifetime of neglect and abuse.
Twang! The shot was true. The young gnome should have been skewered. With his cry, a shield of arcane energy came into being before him, knocking the bolt wide of it's target. The shocked guard fumbled with his quiver, giving Gooterat the chance he needed. He fled through the dark alleys, vanishing into the shadows.
The young gnome knew nothing but the streets. He learned to use his powers to make his life less miserable. He learned to hide from prying eyes, how to defend himself in a pinch, and how to strike back to those who would do him harm. When he had amassed enough coin to leave Neverwinter, he left and never looked back. He would live or die in this world on his own terms, never again to beg for scraps or to live with the rats in the gutter.
Despite his newfound power, Gooterat spent too many years with his back to the wall and his head on a swivel. He is jumpy, anxious, and generally untrusting of others. He has little use for the laws that had little use for him, but values personal freedom above all else. Rats still give him the creeps.

Bray is a Human Barbarian type that has been mentally scarred by death and losing his sister in the mists. She is missing and he is searching for her, while uneasy to use his strength, his rage because every time he does, he loses another piece of himself. Very rough intro.
Veran, a drow wizard. He was found lost and alone by wizard who took him in as an apprintace. He is used to being shunned by society at large but after his master was killed by a vampire he has vowed to destroy any and all vampires he comes across.
I haven't really played a Paladin, and this sounds like an adventure for it.
Thinking of going toward vengeance, a paladin focussed on getting rid of the evil in this and all other worlds.

Hello gang, I would like to begin a new campaign set within the Ravenloft setting.
Looking for 5-6 intrepid souls willing to brave the Demiplane of Dread ... and a very, very haunted house.
Characters created for this tale would be restricted to the 2024 PHB [species, class, background, spells, etc].
My expected posting rate will be about 3-4 posts per week.
No character sheets should be submitted at this stage please; what I'm looking for is a few sentences describing the character you would like to play.

Name: Cassian Ashward
Species: Human
Class: Paladin
Background: Farmer
Description in a few sentences:
Cassian is a young human paladin whose soft voice and nervous stammer belie a quiet strength. Though shy and often unsure of himself, he is steadfast in his resolve to protect others, believing even the most broken soul deserves hope. His oath is not to the gods; it’s a promise to himself and the world to be better than the shadows that haunt him.
