This place that you guys are exploring is like two places mashed up against one another. The older part is a ruined castle with only one tower left standing, and then someone built a fancy manor house next to it.
The room just discovered in the IC is where these two spaces meet.
If it helps to visualize it, here is a picture of the exterior.
You guys are at the front most, left most part of the house now ... right where the house becomes stone tower.
Bear with me as we get through the exploration phase of this haunted house. I know it can get a little repetitive ('Here is a room ... nothing really appears out of the ordinary, etc, etc').
This adventure has an exponential curve to it, meaning ... it starts off slow and then ramps up.
Right now we are on the shallow part of the up slope. During which we will discover the layout of the house and the history of some of its ghostly inhabitants. The next phase will involve more interaction and engagement with the spooky parts of the house and its ghosts. The final phase will devolve into pure survival.
The tempo & action increases (along with instances of 'Wait ... What!? Umm ... Hey guys ... we might not survive this!') are coming soon.
Once the adventure gets going, it doesn't really let up until you guys either die or win.
Pacing is good so far. The seance was a nice touch. And someone is already zombified. :)
***OoC: I vote for working clockwise around the outer rooms, so the sitting room (S) looks a likely suspect. DM, can I get the mage hand to the door in 30ft? ***
Agreed. I don't know where 'S' is but the room with the blue carpet and chairs? And then work around and probably go up the stairs in the foyer.
The current scene might get a little confusing ... if it helps, there are basically four rooms.
Let's call the two 'physical' rooms A and B. Then there are the 'reflection' rooms, Reflection A and Reflection B.
If you are in Room A, you can see and hear everything going on in Room A, you can also see and hear everything going on in Reflection A. Through the fireplace, you can hear (but not see) what is going on in Room B ... but you cannot see or hear anything occurring in Reflection B.

Cool, thanks for the pic.

Alaric does not yet. With his false life invocation he's at 20/33 (including thp) which I feel is enough.
After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
Is that an exterior window on the south wall?
How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Yup, sure is.

That could be a description of a principal's pep talk to a group of new teachers on parent - teacher conference night.

S was for the south (S) sitting room .

Oh right, haha. I thought maybe the rooms had labels and I couldn't see them.

Things are about to get weird.
Happy hunting.
Since we have a split party, I have no issue advancing one side of the room from round 0 to round 1.
In the current scene, Alaric will still get his round 0 actions, and after that, his side of the room will advance to round 1 as well.
Re: Languages.
Even though Boff and the other PCs speak different languages ... when this apparition began speaking ... everyone understood her words.
No. Yes.
You guys are basically fighting an image in a haunted mirror.
That's okay, it was just Boff's internal dialogue. No answer required. But thanks for the info. :)

^^ Ah, I misread that part of the post as a question for me.
My bad. Comes from posting on my phone. I get lazy. :)

Bumping the encounter ahead tomorrow.
Sorry for not posting. Been ill but coming over it now. I should be able to get a post out tomorrow (or maybe a quick one tonight if I get chance)

^^ No worries. If you don't manage to get a post up in time, Alaric will receive two actions in the next round.
Hope you feel better soon.
