"Stop following me!" he yells at the doll with the pointy needles that seemed to be following the arc of arcane energy. With a thought he sent another jolt of energy into doll1.
With a quick glance to the left, he saw the strange bear creature bearing down on him. Raising his left hand he summoned a ball of flame. With a flick of the wrist he sent it flying at the bear.

Sorry 'bout that, wires got x'd somewhere on the threads.
We were not in a good defensive position when the toys decided to join the party. If anyone has the receipt we can just return them to Amazon, I'm pretty sure that's where most toys come from these days.

Yes, Boff will use Topple when able. I realise it disadvantages the ranged attacks if the target is prone, but the Doll will likely get up before it impacts anyone for good or bad.
I'll add another attack roll to my next attack, in case the doll is prone and Boff has advantage.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Alaric, Boff, and Gooterat may level up. Reminder: We are using fixed hit point increases for this tale.
There is some daylight (read: nuance) between advancing a level and taking a long rest.
A character that advances a level, for example, gains a hit die ... but notably ... a character that advances a level does not regain any hit points.
In other words, your hit point maximum increases due to advancing a level ... but the hit points your character currently has does not increase.
The same is true with spells-per-day and other abilities that are reset by a short or long rest. If you have spend them, then advance a level, these abilities are still spent after you gain that level. You, of course, gain new abilities, new spells, new spell slots, etc ... but gaining a level does not reset any of your abilities that 'reset with a short or long rest.'
I know this can be a bit confusing, so I have perused your sheets to see specifically what abilities we are talking about in this instance:
Alaric has 10hp and has spent two spell slots.
Boff has 24hp and has not used any special features yet.
Gooterat has 9hp and has spent one sorcery point, two luck points, and one 1st-level spell slot
As Alaric, Boff, and Gooterat resume play as 3rd level characters, those current hit points (and spent abilities) will remain unchanged.
Taken Battle Master subclass. Maneuvers: Riposte, Parry, Disarming Strike. Student of War: Proficiency in Smith's Tools, Perception Fighting Style: changed from Defense to Dueling Weapon Mastery: no change (Battleaxe, Warhammer, Handaxe)
DM: Let me know how you prefer to handle Reactions. I expect Boff's Maneuvers shouldn't be too problematic. I'll probably use them as soon as he gets attacked, whether hit or miss, so extra damage (Riposte) or damage reduction (Parry) shouldn't sway combat outcomes much in the first couple of rounds. I'm even happy for you to assume Boff uses either ability, and to apply the Reaction and even roll the Riposte attack and Combat Superiority die for me, if that's easier or if it might make a difference to the outcome. Whatever works. :)

That's what I was thinking.

Sounds good. Either way, Alaric isn't looking away from the painting until we are out of the room and the door is closed.
After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
I am hoping that the mage hand has a torch. If it doesn't, Alaric will have one, but will be limited to one handed attacks

Oops, sorry. DC 13 is correct. I think I added my initiative bonus instead of my proficiency bonus.

No worries.

You posted in the ooc by mistake.
Also, I've had two nat 1s, and two nat 20s against me. This isn't going well for Alaric

Disadvantage for the Sorcerous Burst?
He is in melee with the doll, I thought that made DIS ADV on any ranges attack.

^^ Derp! You are correct, thank you for reminding me.
Your welcome and dang it! :)

Unfortunately gang, Alaric has been removed from the tale.
The player's last post was from three weeks ago, and a PM sent last week went unanswered.
I'll do a short re-recruit to plus up our numbers as we head into the final stretch.
Fair enough. Perhaps he can join the catatonic paladin downstairs.
I didn't realise we were getting close to the end.

Yeah, the House of Lament is a 1st-3rd adventure. The final act is a 'Survive if you can' kind of thing.
