Dain you know that the dismembered body of the cultist should no longer be a threat.
Alain you move (half speed) with stealth (or full speed at disadvantage) then attack (with advantage āsnipingā) the 13 misses blasting the ground nearby.
The ghoul however sees Dain on the move and decides to preserve itself rather than lose its tenuous hold as a thinking undead⦠it double moves.
(Aldun moves half movement and does NOT take an AoO out of fear and caution of becoming a valid target for melee attacks of the ghoul.)
In stead Aldun moves away 30 feet towards the other side of the altar wanting to create some form of cover in between him and the abberation. Then he fires a fire bolt at it (19 to hit/ 8 fire dmg).
The crackling arch of electricity from his previous spell still lingers doing 3 extra lighting dmg.
Then Aldun takes cover behind the altar and hopes Drain does the trick.

Dain will fire his longbow at the creature that nearly killed him and infected him with this disease. However, his shot goes wide as the infection shoots pain down his arm
Aldun checks from a safe distance what could be wrong with the dwarf (medicine check 14). If it's just the bleeding he grabs his healing potion and pours it (using mage hand) into the dwarf's mouth hoping it'll restore the dwarf enough to stabilize it.
(if it looks more serious and uncureable I take my notebook and write down as much details as possible about what the poor fellow seems to go through)

And no one beats you in melee but maybe...if we softened them up just a bit more before you go in, you could even kill them faster. What do you think buddy."
"I need a bit of rest to write this all down, get my nerves together and check my spells. And maybe undead aren't really my thing"
āYeah, good thing I had this healing potion. We should get me checked out though. That ghoul was one nasty creature and the wounds it caused seem to be more severe than is apparent. I think you are right⦠might need to use this bow a little more before we charge in.ā
Aldun scrapes the diamond dust from the alter as much as possible putting it in a small pouch for later use. By this time Aldun ritually casts comprehend language and take some time to study the glyphs. Studying the glyphs gives Aldun peace of mind, almost threrapeutical besides the info it offers.
Still a bit careful about the batllerager Aldun approaches him to see how he is and what he's able to tell us about what happened here, who he was with and whom he was after.
"I don't want to be mr-know-it-all or anything Dain. I don't know battle like you do and it doesn't seem to scare you as it does me. Only when I saw this ghoul pound on you and tear into you I was only thinking...terrible and horrific things. You just stomach the beating and sometimes even look as if you enjoy it. (Aldun looks baffled).
There will be enemies that tire of slashing into you again and again and decide they really want to kill something and then see me..... I can't take shit like you can.
That's why I have to be more.....well just study my adversaries more that you do and cherry pick my enemies or not engage at all."

DARAKHUL FEVER
Spread mainly through bite wounds, this disease makes itself known within 24 hours by swiftly debilitating the infected. An infected creature must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw after every long rest. On a failed save, the victim takes 14 (4d6) necrotic damage, and its hp maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken. This reduction lasts until the victim finishes a long rest after the disease is cured. The victim recovers from the disease by making two consecutive successful saving throws. Greater restoration cures the disease, while lesser restoration gives the victim advantage on the next saving throw.
When I try my knowledge of arcana on the glyphs (rolled 21) they slowly seem to start and make sense to me....
As for the rager: I'm a bit afraid of the guy, knowing how he was and what he might become again, almost rabid. Aldun thinks that a goood rest would chear up the guy. After all theY had probably been on their way even before we went so he had earned his rest.
For the weasel: Aldun hears the begging and of course is willing to share some of his food to find out that he hasn't brought any at all. Frustrated about such a stupidity and the rush everything had to be done he tells the weasel to wait a bit because maybe his friend brought some food.
I walk back and, just to be sure to have something I take my dagger and cut off a unrecognisable part of the cultist and put it in my bag. Just in case Dain doesn't have food with him either. You can't go back empty handed. Arriving at Dain I ask him if he brought any food with him for a weasel-friend who might have some info for us.
