Ooc: Guess we should have figured this out when we left the village out but... Can the two gnomes plus a paladin get on one mount, with Lyra on the other mount?
OOC: Executive decision Lyra with Hrian but how are y'all apporching the harbor? Stealthing in? If there's a road take the road in? Sorry guys y'all didn't discuss it and I have no clue how to narrate you in. You know there's smoke.

"We should ride straight there, just before we get in spread out in case there is anything there to ambush us, but we have to assume that they know we are coming and are ready. As we get closer we may have a better idea of where to enter from." Hrain's resolve is clear, how level headed he is at the moment, less so.

"Fine. Ready up to fight then, i guess." Lyra pulls out a rather plain looking dagger, holding the crystal in her other hand. She crouches down a little behind Hrain, her eyes fixated on the smokescreen, apparantly done with the talking for now.
"Hang on a minute Cap'n," Father Pat says from the back of the party "let's not assume that it is bad guys which have fired the town! It could be that there is a perfectly good reason why the town is on fire - an Independence Day celebration that got a bit out of hand perhaps, or the street youth got a bit carried away hunting down rats and other vermin? That said we should be ready for any and all surprises that might come our way."
Holding on from the back of Father Pat's horse, Folzi comments, "Doesn't it really matter why it's on fire until we get there. Best to prepare for the worst and approach unseen. No point in parading nto to town hoping to join some out of control celebration."
Coming up the party can see in the middle distance where white gives way to a solid wall of cut timbers and ice! There is a huge gate that stands open inside a few short, squatted buildings can be seen but tge main source of the blaze is the ruin of a temple tower burning at The center of this large encampment similar too but much grander than the village party just left. Some of you who traveled from the Empire by boat know the sea is just beyond the village. Most of you however were bought here by a teleportation circle in the temple at the center of town then traveled by caravan to the compound. The village on the cusp of icy and treacherous waters, however, still seems to beckon freedom and remind all that magic can flow freely again as the non-divine users begin to feel the power that has ebbed for months, years, or decades begin to crackle to life in your veins!
OOC: Is the party riding in or dismounting and spreading out? Stealth would not be possible atop the horses.
"Ooo! You feel that Nicknack? I think something. It's making my bits all tinglely!" Folzi snickers excitedly. He summons his trusty mage hand and flicks the other gnome's in the ear.
"Shall I take a quick peak inside to see if it's safe?"
DM: What do we hear other than the flames ripping through the town? Perception 15
Folzi can't hear anything this far away the party is still a good 120 yards away but the landscape is flat and the gate openings are huge, about 30ft across, and one of the gates seems broken off its hinges.

Lyra takes a few deep breaths, clenching her fists as if assessing new strengths. She pauses for a brief moment, her eyes closed. "We're back, huh..." And for the first time in days, Lyra is smiling a little. "I dont really like the idea of riding in like this..." She points over to the remains of the temple. "Whoever came for us at the camp knew what they were doing, and the guys trashing this place apparantly shared their distaste for your religion...no offense." She carefully scans the town, especially the roofs for any potentially hidden enemy.
Lyra's far too excited about her magic returning than focusing on her environment.
OOC: No more chance d100 rolls. Magic works as normal here as well as beyond within the Empire but this harbor IS the beginning of the Empire, remember that! The use of non-divine magic is still punishable by death or exile.

Foliz will sneak forward, following along the outside of the wall up to the gate that won't stay open. He peaks inside to get a better look inside the harbor.

Nicknack slides off of Samson and, feeling the gentle tingle of arcane ability invigorating his brain again, he taps himself on the forehead with his wand and vanishes!

The invisible gnome moves forward and examines the teetering gate, trying to sort out what might have damaged it.

Lyra shrugs in an impressively carefree gesture. "So, are we charging straight in, or shall we try to sneak in and see whats happened?"
Ooc: Guess we should have figured this out when we left the village out but... Can the two gnomes plus a paladin get on one mount, with Lyra on the other mount?
OOC: Retconing it? Well, I mean I did ask repeatedly how y'all were moving.
Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
Ooc: No, not retconning, just continuing towards the harbor this last little bit.
I think we could manage that, Pat did summon a very large horse ;)
