You have been hired by the castellan of the Keep on the Borderlands to track down thieves who stole the Bowl of Plenty. This large silver bowl was a gift to the keep, said to bring good fortune to anyone who takes a meal from it. It is a foot wide and weighs 10 pounds. It was damaged on its way to the keep and needs repair, but it was stolen overnight by thieves.
On the promise of a reward of 20 gold pieces for each of you, you’ve followed the trail of the thieves, questioning travelers who saw the thieves leave the village and head toward a group of hills that are home to what are locally known as the “Caves of Chaos.” Your final witness said they saw the bowl being carried into a cave by a group of goblins, small people who are often embodiments of recklessness and ruin.
You are now at the mouth of that cave. Several small footprints show that goblins have walked in and out of this entrance recently. All clues point you into the darkness of this cave.
With red skin, purple hair, eyes of solid silver, with both horns and a tail, Mika was obviously a Tiefling. With heavy chain mail armor, sword and shielld, she was obviously a front line fighter. The blue gear with a star inside let those who recognize it mark her as a follower of Erathis, a cleric or paladin.
Those who had spent time with her, know about her fiery temper that she tries to control, and also her loyalty for her comrades.
"Looks like we finally found them. Now lets teach those goblins the cost of attacking civilization!"
"Goblins!" Myrith looked less than impressed, which was kind of her default look. "Why is it always goblins? Little bastards get everywhere and they stink. I mean, would it hurt them to wash occasionally?"
Myrith looked like a middle-aged human who'd been through the wringer a few times. Mousey hair (where it wasn't grey) and the sort of tan than comes from being exposed to the elements rather than sitting by the pool. Add to that a set of worn (but very serviceable) leather armour, a dark leather overcoat, a voice that sounded like gargling gravel and you soon figured out why people were wary of her. In truth, she'd been around for longer than people realised, was actually an Aasimar, and some (not all) of the attitude was an act.
She looked at Mika with a raised eyebrow. "For civilisation?" she paused "I thought we were doing it for gold."
Mika answers, "While I'll won't refuse the gold, that's not why I took this job. I follow the goddess of civilization, so protecting that is my primary goal."
Gramul shifts in his armor, the chain barely audible under his grunt. "Met plenty goblins in the hills. We don't get along all that well. Gold's the goal - goblin handling is the bonus." He pauses, looking towards the dark cave entrance and the goblin footprints. "And civilization, too." 7 feet tall, with a large greatsword and a bald head, Gramul casts a wide shadow. His goliath form displays a clear athleticism, but his awkward additions to the conversation and the way he shifts weight from side to side indicates he's still a little green. (Metaphorically, at least. Literally, he's gray.)
Like normal, Gramul doesn't feel the need to say more than he already has, though he smiles at Mika's earnest reply. He cracks his knuckles absentmindedly, ready to enter the cave.
"I can't say that I like their home decor aesthetic. It's nearly as bad as their hygiene."
Myrith looks around. "I guess we go quietly now." She looks at the other two, in their chain mail and sighs "Ok, I guess I'll go quietly. Stay here while I have a look around."
She slowly moves forward, trying not to make too much noise.
Perception 17. Gramul shudders as he looks up, seeing the creatures - or what remains of them. "A lot bigger than goblins," he whispers. He's a little relieved to see Myrith scouting ahead - this is his first time really exploring a cave, except to locate the occasional lost sheep. As she advances, Gramul keeps his eyes trained on her, but he listens to make sure nothing sneaks up from behind. A part of him wishes he brought quieter armor. He stifles a laugh, thinking about the home decor remark.
Mika follows Myrith along with Gramul, willing to let the quiet one take point, but ready to charge in if she runs into trouble. She whispers back to Gramul, "If they can kill those spiders, we should not take them lightly."
Myrith tries to figure out which way the goblins went, but the ground is too hard to find any tracks (Survival 6).
She then moves back to her companions and relays what she has seen. "We're clear up to the point where the passages split, but I can't tell which way they went after that. I suggest that I scout a short way into each passage and see what I can find, while you wait at the junction. If you're happy with that I'll start with the right hand passage."
If the plan is agreed Myrith will go Right/Up/North to the point where the path narrows (2 squares from the top).
Myrith checks the ceiling for any dangers, as well as the floors.
Perception 13
If there's nothing worth noting she will move up to the gap at the top, tripping over her own feet as she does.Once she's had a quick look through that gap she will move back to join the others.
