From the Waterdeep Times (Side Column, Page 6) Minor Unrest in the Western Heartlands
(Staff Report)
Travelers coming up from the southern Sword Coast have been sharing some unsettling stories: small towns hit in the middle of the night, caravans looted clean, and raiding parties made up of kobolds, mercenaries, and masked figures who apparently really like setting things on fire. One merchant even swore on his dear wife's life that he saw a dragon — an actual, real, fire-breathing dragon!!! — descend from the skies.
Local officials insist it's probably bandits or kobolds acting bold in the colder months. No casualties reported, just stolen goods. Mostly valuables.
Governor Nighthill allegedly urges all "capable travellers" to keep an eye out while passing through Greenest and the area, but nothing official has come down from Baldur's Gate or Elturel.
Is it a cult? Bandits? A very dedicated dragon-themed fan club?
This author cannot say (yet). But something is happening out there.
And if you’re the sort of person who can't resist trouble when it knocks… this might be your moment.
(See Page 12 for the weather.)

About Me
I have lots of experience on PbP forums and a good amount of experience with D&D, both in-person and online, but this will be my first time running Tyranny of Dragons. I'm excited to share this adventure with four or five committed and enthusiastic players who want to dive into the story. I will keep this thread open for a couple of days but may close it earlier, depending on the interest/applications' quality.
Brief Backstory: While in the army Jojo found a deeper belief in his god and became I true follower. His superior officers recognized this changed and transferred him to become a cleric. During a battle while Jojo was kneeling over a comrade and praying for his soul an enemy broke through of his bonds and quickly was able to have a huge bludgeoning type hit across the side of Jojo's unprotected head. The hit was so bad his skull was cracked. Jojo laid in the hospital for weeks as he recovered. The damage was sever and he lost a lot of hos long term memory. He has since gained much of those lost memories. But to remember his personal past is still forgotten. The doctors found that the Army has failed Jojo with past records as all of Jojo's where lost in a fire and there is no "official record" of Jojo ever joining. Like all recruits, he has the serial number tattooed across his right rear upper back and the along the left buttock (for battlefield id). Tent mates recall Jojo mentioning a wife name Peg and that he was a new father who planned to see the offspring during the next leave cycle, but that was it. There have been no letters addressed to Jojo since the incident and if one does show up, the Army will update Jojo's records based on that letter and forward it to Jojo.
Jojo was discharged, and using the alms of his god and fellow clerics he is wandering the land in search of his family. In the hopes of receiving a family letter, Jojo still maintains regular contact with the army.
Character Appearance: Weather beaten solider like stare, travelers clothes. While he is a Life Domain Cleric, he has no obvious clerical garb to allow for a quick association. Jojo does wear a hat to hide the scar(s) of his brain bash. (tried to do a pic off the web my search on the web is not great. no 1/2 elf could be found obviously. so found a cowboy in a hospital.)
How your character happens to be in Greenest: (A short paragraph in place of posting history) Jojo was a medic in the army. A solider through and through. He was in a battle and was hit hard in the head, cracked his skull. He survived but has lost some long term memory. One is who his family is. He was discharged, but by a fluke the Army could not help him on the family aspect. Those records where burned in a fire. Jojo wanders around trying to find what he does not remember.
Thalia comes from the Tyche Family, A family known due to the scandal of her father in which he dealt with criminal dealings with various entertainment/relaxation businesses as fronts. Along with adopting and having alot of children to help run these places before he was caught, all of his children were to be sent to an orphanage. Yet Thalia and a few of her siblings fled, since then she has lived on the streets, using the skills her father taught her to gain money along with developing a love for gambling. With this, most of her winnings and scams have gone to be lost due to this love.
Character Appearance:
Thalia has deep grey skin with mid back length white hair. The top half of it is tied into two pigtail braids that are styled to form loops while the rest drape down her back. Her long white eyelashes reveal fully lavender eyes as her white wings are always tucked behind her. She wears a hooded robe that stops at her waist that's a light grey, with a black skirt coming out of it with a black shirt underneath the robe. She's almost fully monochrome besides her lavender eyes and her brown bag that she carries her stuff in. Her ears are round with small white feathers coming from behind them with a smiling that's slightly unnerving and distrusting that still makes you go along with what she says.
After a few years of mindless traveling with various run-ins, Thalia finds the town of Greenest in need of a big place of relaxation.... in the form of something akin to a gambling ring. She has spent her time in Greenest trying to figure out the locals to see the best way with setting up shop as she quietly finds certain parts to make money to keep herself afloat in taverns here and there until she can buy herself a house to start her business.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
Being the youngest staff reporter at The Waterdeep Times meant one thing for Tamsin Merriweather: she received every miserable assignment no seasoned quill would touch. Rain-soaked stakeouts, tense interviews with irate guildmasters, and even the occasional exposé on bakery fraud became her reluctant specialties.
But Tam embraced it. Every muck-raking alley chase sharpened her instincts; every late-night scribbling session honed her prose. Even the occasional threat from an offended noble only fueled her hunger for truth.
She possessed ambition—dangerous, fiery ambition—and the razor-sharp intuition that true reporters seemed born with. She didn’t want her work buried in column-seven filler; she wanted her name on front-page headlines. So when rumors surfaced of strange caravans, missing merchants, and masked cultists moving quietly along the Coast, Tamsin felt a familiar spark. This was a big story. Perhaps the biggest Waterdeep had seen in years.
After days of insistent pestering, her editor finally relented.
“Go south. Find out what’s going on. Don’t die. File regular reports.”
Tam packed ink, parchment, a spare quill, and a hidden dagger—standard field reporter’s gear—and set out to chase the truth.
Name: Tamsin “Tam” Merriweather
Race: Human (Variant) (Bonus feat: Observant or Keen Mind)
Class / Planned Subclass: Rogue – Inquisitive Eventual dip option: 1–2 levels of Knowledge Cleric or Divination Wizard (maybe, depending on how the campaign goes)
Appearance: Tamsin is sharp-eyed, wiry, and quick-moving—a person who looks like they’re always late to a scoop.
Hair: Dark auburn, tied back with a leather strap; always wisps coming loose in the wind.
Eyes: Hazel with flecks of gold, constantly scanning, constantly cataloging.
Build: Slim and agile; clothes tailored for running down leads, not fashion.
Clothing: A long, charcoal-gray journalist’s coat with far too many pockets, leather satchel full of parchment rolls, a small collapsible spyglass, and a notebook with frayed edges.
Accessories: A silver press token of the Waterdeep Times hanging on a cord around the neck; ink stains on several fingertips.
Vibe: Young Lois Lane meets fantasy gumshoe detective.
How Tam Happens to Be in Greenest
The Waterdeep Times had been receiving troubling letters from frontier traders—accounts of caravans mysteriously vanishing, strange figures asking pointed questions about dragons, and sightings of winged silhouettes after dusk. Tam’s editor dismissed most of it as tavern talk… but she didn’t.
She followed the trade road south, interviewing merchants, guards, and wanderers along the way. The stories became more consistent—and more disturbing—the closer she came to the small town of Greenest.

Backstory: Ikirthal has been fighting with bows and spears since he could fly. He joined the warriors of his tribe around the age of 3 (as soon as he was old enough), but now, at the age of 6, he has decided to leave and seak adventure, feeling he can do good for not only his tribe, but also for the world.
Appearance: Ikirthal does not have red wings (unlike his name) On his head are white and black feathers, creating a salt and pepper look. His body is covered in brown and black feathers, and his wings are golden brown. His eyes are a sharp green
Why in greenest? Ikirthal, after months of trying to find hire as an adventurer or caravan guard has run out of money, and ended up staying with a family of Aarakocra in Greenest while he served in the guard for minimal coin. Honestly, he hates the place, hates his fellow guards, and dislikes the family, and wishes nothing more than to get out and go home or plunder a dragon hoard.
Class / Planned Subclass: Wizard (planned Order of Scribes)
Background: Sage
Personality Traits: I'm used to helping out those who aren't as smart as I am, and I patiently explain anything and everything to others. / There's nothing I like more than a good mystery.
Ideal: Knowledge. The path to power and self-improvement is through knowledge. (Neutral)
Bond: I work to preserve a library, university, scriptorium, or monastery
Flaw: I overlook obvious solutions in favor of complicated ones.
Brief Backstory: Evelyn Drake hails from Waterdeep. She was born to a merchant father and homemaker mother who could afford to give Evelyn a comfortable existence and access to education. She used this education to further her own innate magical talents, and she soon caught the eye of renowned sun elf wizard Ancalion Erimond at the famous Blackstaff Academy. He offered her the position of apprentice, which she quickly accepted. Now she spends her days mostly fetching tea, mending clothes and doing other odd tasks that Master Ancalion pawns off on his apprentices, while also trying to learn as much about magic as she can. Evelyn is a quiet woman without much social finesse, and she prefers to spend most of her time reading a book or talking to her familiar, a barn owl she named Merlin. How your character happens to be in Greenest:Evelyn was sent by her master Ancalion to Greenest to fetch some spell components that could only be found in the area. As an apprentice wizard, Evelyn is used to doing her master's grunt work.
Name: Harold Race: Grung Class / Planned Subclass: Monk - Kensei or Mercy Background: Witherbloom Student Brief Backstory: Harold is one of many talented students studying at Strixhaven. Anothiny: Hey Harold! Ready for two months of freedom?
Harold: Yes yes! I'm already planning to finally get a full night of sleep. What about you? Got anything exciting lined up?
Anothiny: Well, my big news is that I'm spending the whole first month at my Aunt Clara's house up in Greenest. It's right near a trade route and forests.
Harold: No way, that sounds amazing! Exploring and seeing people from different places!
Anothiny: Pretty much! And actually, that brings me to why I wanted to talk to you. I was wondering... would you maybe want to come stay for a week or so while I'm there? My aunt has a huge guest room and she loves having company.
Harold: Seriously? You mean, like, stay in Greenest?
Anothiny: Yep! It would be so much fun. We could explore the forests, go hunting, and Aunt Clara is an amazing cook. Think about it!
So, full disclosure I've never played D&D in any capacity.

Class: Rogue. Subclass: TBD(i don't know and I'd like to let the game decide)

Backstory: I never knew my father. My mother worked for a bakery by day. In the evenings she cleaned for wealthy families. Her pay couldn't have covered our needs, yet she always found a way. One night I had a bad dream, and went to her room and found her tucking away a broach. That night I was introduced to her real trade and my training began.
Appearance: An unassuming man, about 6ft light skin, darker hair than the complexion would suggest cut close on tbe sides messy on top. A dark green drab cloak drapes over his shoulders flowing down to worn black boots.
I've never wanted to work, toiling away to survive and make someone else rich, but all the tricks I learned were best executed under the cover of a day job. After getting sloppy a couple times I moved on before I messed up. Word of heists drew me; it takes a thief to catch a thief and the rich are proud. How your character happens to be in Greenest: (A short paragraph in place of posting history) Sandra is down on her luck after her most recent concoction of ochre jellyrolls was a flop on the market, eventually something's got to give, but for now she's got to find a job and find it fast and Greenest is as good a shot as any
