"Rixton, isn't it? You seem like a smart enough fellow." he says turning to half-elf, "It seems our esteemed companions are fans of a more direct direct approach. Either that or they all share the same feline trait: easily attracted by whatever is making noise. Shall we follow them or should we, stealthly, have a look at that hole to avoid any surprises?", Ladrian says while keeping to the shadows and using cover to advance towards the hole, in the hope ofunderstanding what it is, what caused it and if it the poses any danger to the crew.
"Hmm?" I say, dividing my attention between thoughts of books and experts I know on the subject of goblins. I realize that everyone has moved into the village. I stroll across the bridge, observing more details of the attack as it becomes visible. "Yes, the hole," I say distractedly. I leave my dagger and rapier sheathed but casually rest my hands on the hilt of each. I follow Ladrian towards the hole in the town square.
You've never heard of anything to suggest that goblins use siege engines. Also, please make another History check in your next post (regarding the hole in the ground)
Ladrian:
In your next post, please include a History check (regarding the hole in the ground)
Vigan leads the way into Nightstone with Andor and Carrow close behind. The two rogues, Rixton and Ladrian considering a less direct approach, move a bit more cautiously and creep to the large boulder directly before the gate. Now that each of you has a much clearer view of the village square, you can clearly see that the boulders were somehow launched or dropped or thrown into Nightstone. Each boulder, some of which are nearly four feet in diameter, rests within a small impact crater.
Moments after the five of you pass over the drawbridge, you catch your first glimpse of movement in the village. Across the square, two large dog-like creatures step into view near the stable. You recognize them immediately as worgs. From the mouth of each dangles a mess of fur, blood and bones. You realize that one of the village dogs has recently met its end and become a meal for the worgs, both of whom seem content at this moment to watch the five of you as they finish devouring their meal.
Refer to the map below for locations of all party members (the colored circles) and the worgs (black squares). One square = ten feet

Rixton:
"I don't mean to tread on the obvious, friends," I say in a low voice, "but we are dealing with more than goblins. I don't mean the worgs. Goblins alone did not assault this town."
I look ahead to the hole and consider what its implications might be. The mystery of it is compelling.
"I need to see it up close," I say. I move forward toward the hole about 30 feet (ending just north of the intersection connecting J13 & K14). I aim to keep the well roughly between me and the worgs.
Seeing Rixton move up closer to the worgs, Andor curses quietly under his breath "I hope they aren't still hungry" he whispers then clears his mind and focuses on the power of the storm that always flows through him, readying himself for spellcasting.
Readying an action to cast Ray of Frost at a worg if they charge towards Rixton and get within range of the spell (60')

Vhon - Level 2 Warlock - What shall become of the Drunken Sailor?
Torn between investigating the temple and dealing with the Worgs, Vigan chooses to focus on the new threat, and moves to place himself between his companions and the Worgs (Move 30ft to M11, just west of the well. Ready greataxe as an action in case either of the Worgs charge us).
"Regardless of what assaulted this place, the only good Worg is a dead Worg, they can't be allowed to live." Motioning to his companions armed with bows, he continues. "Perhaps the rest of you could draw them to me with some well placed arrows? There could be more round the corner for all we know."
You're able to recall that the village of Nightstone was named for a massive chunk of obsidian that sat in the center of town. You realize the hole in the town square is probably where the nightstone once stood.
As Rixton makes his way toward the center of the square, the worgs drop their gruesome meal on the ground and advance. They move quickly, each with a specific target in mind. The first worg seems intent on Rixton, despite the fact that Vigan and Carrow are closer targets. The second worg, slinking and growling, locks eyes with Vigan and moves directly toward him.
Carrow releases an arrow that catches the worg squarely in its right shoulder; the beast emits a half-yelp half-growl but continues on its line toward Rixton and Ladrian.
Everyone:
DM assumes Carrow's shot was directed at worg #1
I should have asked that everyone roll inititative in my last post. My oversight. So we will proceed as follows for combat:
Players' actions are first. Carrow's turn is completed; Andor, Vigan, Rixton, and Ladrian are next (in any order)
Monsters actions will follow.
On the dice roller, use the "Combat" tab when you attack (as opposed to the "Basic" tab). It allows you to bundle your attack roll and damage roll in one.
"The twisted faces of the damned, piled high and cloaked in malice!" Landrian speaks softly while readying his shortbow where he stands. "Let's see what your're made of, my comrades" he says towards the rest of the crew.
He then calms his breathing and releases the arrow aimed at Worg #1

Vigan
The goliath equals the stare of the worg, backing away a few steps as it approaches, getting its measure. Suddenly, he propels himself towards the beast, swinging his greataxe at its head.
The worgs have my full attention now. The mystery can wait a little longer. I move 10 feet to the north (just southwest of Carrow), drawing my rapier. I ready an attack against Worg 1 when it gets within 5' of me.

(N.B. The fences that surround farming plots and gardens are 3' to 4' high)
After Ladrian's arrow zips over the head of the first worg, the creature is then momentarily bathed in bright bluish light from Andor's spell attack. The worg is visibly shaken by piercing cold, and you can see tiny ice crystals hanging from its matted fur after the flash of light dissipates.
The Ray of Frost, however, isn't sufficient from stalling the worg's ill intent. Rixton takes a stab at the worg, but the rapier glances off the beast's thick hide. It lunges at Rixton, mouth wide and teeth flashing. (Attack: 10 If successful, then 12 piercing damage)
Vigan's swing is too high, and the second worg darts beneath the goliath's blade and lunges for one of his legs. (Attack: 18 If successful, then 9 piercing damage)

Vigan
The worg clamps down on Vigan's leg. Though the goliath has clearly been bitten, he shows no signs of it affecting him in any way, as he shakes the worg loose with a grunt. He takes another swipe at his snarling foe, unbalanced as he does so.
Stone's Endurance: 8
Net result is I took no damage from the worg's attack.
Attack: 10 Damage: 9
OOC - 2 nat 1s so far for attack rolls, RNG gods have it in for me.

Carrow
(Carrow moves into the center of square 12K) He studies his immediate surroundings before taking a firing position and draws an arrow to his cheek.
"Ready when you are" he says to the Rogues still investigating the hole.
Carrow holds his aim at the Warg waiting a few seconds, as he exhales emptying his lungs his aim steadies, releasing an arrow.

OOC: Did Andor's Ray of Frost trigger?
Edit: That looks like a yes! :)
Andor feels the energy within, his eyes turn pure white as he reaches out directing a burst of freezing cold at the closer worg.
Casts Ray of Frost
Attack 10
Damage 8
The worg's speed is also reduced by 10' until my next turn.

So many options to consider here. How tall is that fence to my south?
Edit: Never mind, I've got a plan. Could be still good to know, though.

Thus ends round 1. Round 2 turns are as follows:
Updated map:
(Rixton reduced to zero hit points; death saving throws begin on his next turn).
My attack triggers when the worg approaches, right?
Attack: 20 Damage: 3
Plus a sneak attack bonus (if I land the hit) for being within 5' of another enemy (Carrow): 4
Edit: Boo. It doesn't matter, I think.
