Once the guards are knocked out, Vondal enlists Karl's aid in dragging them over and behind whatever cover they can. Still bound up for good measure as well. "I would signal you, but thought fer sec you might use it as excuse to put axe in head or somethin."He replied to Karl, giving him a sidelong look. "Oi. See to those others. Just in case they miss one or two." He calls over to Nif and Zander.
"So, what next plan? We hit glasstaff while still not expecting us? Or we go for prisoners? Latter isss… a bit risky. Especially if eye thing decides to betray deal."When the others look at him in confusion, Vondal sighs and rubs the back of his neck. "I left 4 days back in cavern as part of, uhm… mental conversation. Very weird. But done now."By this point he has made his way back over to Droop, and taken to rubbing her back in what he hoped were comforting motions. Even mustered what dwarven fighting spirit(ki) and vague recollection of massage/pressure points in an effort to calm her down again.

Once the last two Redbrands are knocked out, Droop seems to relax a bit. She gives Vondal a grateful smile as he rubs her back. "Thank you," she says meekly. "I ... I have never actually met the Glasstaff," she offers, "but the Redbrands all seem afraid of him. The bugbears were not, but they kept their distance."
Night just nods, stops fiddling with the coins and heads over to the others. Just before they leave, he gives a handful of coins to each of the others.

As always, he keeps the leftover so he can add it to the next division.
Vondal nods solemnly to Karl, then looks back to Droop. "Then will definitely need to catch off guard then. Those bugbears... not too bright." Vondal gives Droop a sheepish grin. "Right then. After nif. Nice and quiet." He says, keeping to the tail end of the group with Droop. For the dwarf knew that if he really needed to, reaching the front would be no problem.
Nif opens the door on the north side of the hallway. This room appears to be a wizard’s workshop. A rat scurries across the floor and takes refuge under a large worktable set up with alembics, retorts, distillation coils, and other alchemical devices, all of it stewing and bubbling away. Bookshelves are crowded with sheaves of parchment and strange-looking tomes.
Vondal tries to get a read on the rat as they go along, having had to deal in part with wizards in the past. Not much, much to the chagrin of his folk, but enough to know a trick or two. Or so he'd like to do so. Seeing the door on the far right, he whispers a "keep going" to Nif and Karl.
Vondal shakes his head, seeming to brush off the presence of the rat. But before his brothers can go kicking in the door or otherwise, he grabs Nif's shoulder and with his back to the rat says something quietly in dwarvish."Call me paranoid, Brother. But if you don't mind shooting that rat real quick? Be quick and sudden as steeder -- Don't look until you're ready. I just wish to confirm something." Vondal then grins and pats Nif on the shoulder a few times."Sound like plan? Our friend will never see us coming."
Karl kicks the door open with a mighty crash, and Vondal is ready to throw his weapon. Inside they find ... The walls of this bedchamber are covered with drapes of scarlet cloth. The furnishings include a small writing desk with matching chair, a comfortable-looking bed, and a wooden chest at the foot of the bed. No living thing is in sight.

"Shite! No wait -- This-..." Vondal waggles a finger in the air. "This could be other magic trick. Let's search the room. I'll guard the door, unless you wish to uncle." He lowers the axe, and looks back to Droop. "Close other door. Just in case."No matter what, the gold dwarf files into the room after Karl, and either ends up looking around the door for any signs of the wizard, or more directly searching the room.
"Now how could.. could he?"He frowns, then starts focusing his attention to the floor and then ceiling. "This place is old enough. Maybe."Vondal mutters to himself before aloud saying, "Nif. You and Uncle know hide-holes best. Where you think might hide one?"He asks.

"The skeletons don't attack anyone wearing one of the red cloaks," Wilten offers. His eyes are still pinned on Zander.
A tear runs unbidden down McDonald's cheek.
"And, yes ... that thing does speak into our minds," Wilten continues. "We give it food and it leaves us alone. I've never seen it."
"I have," McDonald croaks. "Briefly. It's creepy. It has one huge eye."

Nif will lead the way to the next door at the base of the stairs

The rat has paused underneath and table. It is watching the party.

Nif nods and in a fluid motion spins around, aims his crossbow and fires at the rat.

Vondal quickly turns to Karl as soon as the shot fire, motioning for him to kick in the door!

The rat disappears as the bolt pierces its hide and ends up lodging itself in the floor. That was no ordinary rat.
