This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nif let's out what can only be an inappropriate snicker as Vondal scolds Karl as he is used to the roles being reversed. As soon as he realizes, he tries to cover his mouth with his hand.
Wasn't sure if slight of hand or deception would be more appropriate to cover the snicker, so i will roll both.
Sister Garaele nods understandingly. "Sometimes Lady Luck blesses. Sometimes she withholds." She turns to look at the body of Brom again, seeming to take in the dwarf as more than just a body for the first time. When she looks back at Vondal, her face is soft and kindly. "You mustn't blame yourself for this one's demise," she advises in a kind tone. "Each of us has only an allotted time here on this plane. Tell me, was your friend brave? Did he embrace life?"
Vondal fails to notice the snickering, but perhaps at least picks up Nif's return to the group. And if so, he'll looked relieved for a brief moment before his attention returns to the priestess. "Brave? I cannot say he was always so, but... towards his end at least, he did not hesitate to risk his life for the sake of his brothers." Vondal lets out a mirthless chuckle. "And given the choice between staying in Neverwinter and risk destitution, or a potentially dangerous journey out for coin, I like that he chose life after a fashion."Vondal gives a sardonic grin that falters as a thought occurs.
"There are..."he pauses, then after a moment sighs. "If you could keep secret his being here from the redbellies, it would be appreciated. I do not know to what extent they settle debts here. But I would not chance it. And if there's a way we -- I can repay for both this and the service of preserving him, you need only ask."He claims.
(@WoobyDoo I haven't forgotten about the whole wolf stabbing incident. Vondal's glasses are just slightly on the rosy side.)
OOC: It's not uncommon for the dearly departed to be remembered more to the rememberer's liking than in line with reality. :)
Sister Garaele smiles as Vondal speaks. When he finishes by offering payment, her face goes thoughtful. "While I am not brave enough to offer resistance to the Redbrands, you can be assured that I keep my distance and offer no information to those thugs," she says in an increasingly frustrated tone. "I'm not sure I completely understand your meaning, but if you are asking if he can stay here in the shrine, I cannot abide by it. This is not a place of rest. This is a sanctuary." Her brow arches in hope. "But if you're willing to help me out to thank me for helping your friend, I could use some. I was recently tasked by my superiors to visit and question someone about a particular book she has knowledge of. I sought her out, but she was not there. If you are willing, I would appreciate if you could go there again for me with the hopes that she would be available to question about the book. We need to know where it is. Not only would this adequately repay me for the service I have rendered, but I would be glad to repay you with three potions of healing."
"Keeping thugs under control is what I'm good at, after all been doin' it for the better part of a 'undred year" Karl says. "So if you need protection from that lot, I'm yer dwarf so to speak and these other dwarfs" here he looks at Zander "he's an 'onarary dwarf, are not completely useless either!" He looks around at the others and continues "don't reckon there's nuttin' keepin' us in this here town - so we can leave when yer ready."
Nif let's out a cough to get the other Dwarves attention and asks then to come and talk briefly. When Nif and his companions are a several feet away he starts in dwarvish.
Sorry Zander, Nif was not there to experience your heroic efforts that resulted in you becoming an 'honarary dwarf', so he still doesnt really trust you. Plus I don't even know if you have returned to the world of consciousness yet. Maybe get Karl to teach you dwarvish 😉
What Nif says
Whilst I think helping this Sister as payment is a good idea, I just want to make sure we are aware of all our options. I managed to sell the small statuette for a decent price, so if it comes to it, we can dedicate that gold to Bron's send off. The reason I say this, is on my way to the Miners Exchange, I saw a posting for a job to handle some Orcs. More information can be provided if we go inquire inside. So as I see it, we can pick between two Jobs; helping this Sister find a book or handle Orcs. Currently I am not saying what we should do, just informing you of the other option that we have.
Vondal face fell at the news, but he quickly pushed down the feeling in a grudging but accepting nod. His eyes go wide at the offer. And for a moment, there's honest, dwarven greed in them. That too gets shaken off, though seeming moreso by Karl's reminder about the thugs. "'cept we still gotta drop off the goods though, Uncle. Even with things being what they are with our... employer. Someone there -- a, uhm.. I forgot her name already. But at the very least, job won't be half-done. Already got enough on conscious as-is."Vondal admits rubbing his forehead.
"Hm? Oh, a moment, Sister."Vondal wanders off a ways to listen to Nif along with hopefully Karl. Aside from folding his arms and a raised brow at points, Vondal listens without interruption. Then in turn saying in dwarvish.
"Hm. Well, we could do both. That way, we can ask for an advance payment of one of those potions if we're gonna deal with Orcs. Plus, it's not as if things can get any worse for us just asking about some curious book... Though there is still the business of Gundrun." He pauses to let the reminder sink in. "If we do these jobs, we can't afford putting too many days on them... though that said, until the heat dies down, it would be good getting out of town for a while at least. /After/ we finish dropping off the goods, and seeing if we can get a few of those extra arms we picked up sold. Sounds like plan?"

Nif nods in thought as Vondal expalains his idea and at the mention of goods Nif perks up as if he has just remembered something. Once Vondal is finished he will reply in Dwarvish.
Brother, that sounds like a good plan. But before I forget again, you remember those goods we found with the blue lion crest back at the goblin cave? Well I think I may have also found their owner, and if remember correctly we brought them back with us. We can always go hand them up and who know, we may get some compensation which could be helpful, especially if we have to deal with Orcs. So quick layout of what to do, hand in the goods that were the driving reason for us to come to this town, hand up the blue lion goods, help with the book and then if we are up to it, see if the Orc problem is still available?
Vondal eyes go wide as saucers; and after promptly slapping his forehead, he mutters a curse in Undercommon. After a moment or two, he speaks again in Dwarvish, his mood brightening until he cannot help but let out a weak chuckle over something.
"... You have the right of it, Brother. So unless Uncle has other idea, I think that works just right. Unless some right and proper adventuring folk show up, I doubt that Orc problem is going to resolve itself any time soon. So, I like our odds."He chuckles weakly. "Hopefully by time we reach this other place, our friend over there will be conscious again, at the very least."

Karl looks over a Zander and says "I don't reckon he's gunna been in a fit state to make a sound decision for a while!" He says to the others "we've been standing around long enough with out thumbs up our arses - let's just get on and do something, or anything for that matter, cos I'm gettin' bored! 'an you lot 'aven't really seen me bored"
Nif nods to what Vondal says and just rolls his eyes at Karl's boredem comment. He then says a few more things in Dwarvish and heads outside.
Ok well let's go take the goods to their respective destinations. Karl, you can come with me. Vondal can you please just explain to the lady how we plan to help out as you have already been in discusiond with her. Karl and I will see you outside.
Vondal mirror both Nif's reaction in almost perfect unison. "Won't be long, little Brother." He pats Nif on the shoulder one last time, and then with a sharp nod to Karl, makes his way back to the priestess. "So! It's been decided that we can indeed be of further help with one another. We would of course need to know more about this person -- and preferably, the book as well -- before we go. Aaa-location as well. We don't won't aggravate the person you and yours think knows of it needlessly now do we? Or the wrong one, as the case may be." He gives a small grin. "Aaah-lso.. about those potions... If it would be possible to have an advance payment of a sort. Only the one, mind you. Someone here left a notice about some Orc's acting uppity in this territory."
"We would see to them while we're out. Kill two grubbers with one stone. And while this and that have little to do with you directly, it... would be unfortunate if it we manage to acquire this knowledge -- nay, the book itself, only to lose it again to a bunch of rowdy roughens with more bite than anticipated. Don't you agree?" He asks, and once he had his answer, he'd either stick around to try and convince her, or see to carrying Brom back out to the cart.
Garaele looks very relieved and glad as Vondal explains that they will help her. As he continues talking, explaining about the orcs, she begins to look confused. Finally, she says hesitantly, "I suppose." She pauses and then seems to shake herself. She moves back into the shrine and pulls two more things from her hidden compartments. Returning, she offers Vondal a potion of healing and a jeweled silver comb. As vondal looks at the comb, she explains, "You'll need this. Agatha is a very vain banshee. I believe if you can flatter her and give her the comb, she may trade it for the book. It's a spellbook that once belonged to a mage named Bowgentle. Agatha lives northwest of Conyberry along a trail that heads out of town into the Neverwinter Wood. I'm so thankful you're willing to help. Tymora's blessings on you."
Vondal had lofted a brow at the comb, but took both items with some hesitation. The story after leaves him looking exceptionally wide-eyed with worry. Yet, it is with a mute nod, and a pointed no further questions asked that he turns to walk away. Once outside, he passes the potion to Nif, and 4 gold to both Nif and Karl respectively: noting absently to the coin being from the Bugbear from earlier. "So, I have good news... and bad news. Good news is, well, is obviously the potion. And that it is out a ways... Bad news is -- and I may have mistaken her, but the one we are to take knowledge of book from? She's a banshee. A vain one, mind you, but still... Would explain why the reward is so pricey."He says as they make their way to the next destination.

Nif let's out a mirthless chuckle at the mention of a Banshee, "With a reward like that, can't say I am surprised. Especially considering our luck in what was meant to be a simple journey." he says referring to the last few days. He continues, "No matter, let's go unload these supplies."
Nif looks at Karl, "You got him in this state Uncle, you can have the honor," he pauses for a moment and then flashes a wicked grin, "but you will be baby sitting him when he complains about feeling unwell."
Karl looks a bit sheepish at this and says "I didn't pour the beers down his throat - he chose to do that - it was self-inflicted I say! But alright I'll wake him up. Hey Vondal have you got any Willow bark cos this bloke is gunna need it." He then turns to Zander gently shakes him and says "c'mon mate you've gotta wake up, we're goin' after a Banshee and that seems right up your tree."
