It takes Vondal close to a minute of absent-minded beard combing, but he comes back to the present with hardly any apparent awareness of having drifted off. Quickly in dwarvish he says to Nif, "What we need is map of area to at least help plot things out. Though if they've been missing for Tenday, then chances are... they too have been taken. Like Gundrun." Vondal lowers his head at that solemn thought.
"We already had plans to speak to this Halia. Perhaps she can even narrow down where Nundro and Tharden might've camped out." He admits, having switched back to his accented common. "That said, would you at least have local maps still in stock? As well as few goods -- something to restock my Healer's Kit. Can come by later once inventory of new goods are done, but.. thought I'd ask while still here... Also, what do you know Halia?"

Barthen shakes his head again. "I'm sorry, but I don't carry maps. I carry map cases, if you'd like to buy one of those." He looks over his shoulder at some noise coming through a door behind the counter. "Halia should have maps you can buy. Her store, the Miner's Exchange, is the last building on the south end of town." He starts moving around the counter toward the back door, still facing the dwarves. "She can be a hard one. Secretive, too. But if you stay on her good side, she's mighty helpful. I can hear my boys unloading your delivery. Let me get back there and make sure everything's being put where it should. I'll be right back." The old man disappears through the door.
OOC: If you'd like to look around for healer's kit restocking items, go ahead. Also, please remind me how many times it's been used.
(I am assuming in this post that Nif would have heard the man say Halia's name in Post #830)
At the mention of Miner's Exchance, Nif goes a little white as he makes the connection to Halia being the same women he sold the Statuette to earlier. He turns to Vondal, speaking in dwarvish "I know the way to the Miner's Exchange, as that is where I sold the statuette to. Where we need to take the lion crested goods is on the way, so we can drop by there on the way meet Halia and collect a map. On that note," his voice gains a slightly sheepish tone as he continues, "you may have to deal with her on your own brother, as I may have made a fool of myself when making the sale." His voice returns to normal as he continues, "Once we have the map, we can plan the best order to do everything, and we wont need to deal with dragging around a cart of goods."
Karl wanders back around the corner with a greenish looking Zander in tow and says ''ave you lot finished yet? If we're gunna be on the road by sundown we wanta get movin'!"
Under some direction by Barthen, Thistle and Ander (Karl and Zander hear him called) unload everything not marked with the lion crest. The old man looks through the supplies and checks off everything he was expecting. "I left everything designated for the Coster on the wagon. There was one other small box with a couple healing potions in it as well. That one wasn't marked, but we hadn't requested any potions delivered — can't afford to deal in potions right now — so we left them on the wagon." He holds out a hand, dropping 50 gold into Karl's palm. "Here's the 50 gold I trust was your promised payment." He follows Karl back into Barthen's, leaving the young men to finish putting things right. As he enters, he smiles at Vondal. "Were you able to find what you needed to restock your kit?"
(@DDP Been keep track. Used 3 out of 10 effective uses. Also, might've misprinted, but I think it was only 5 gold... not that anyone is gonna complain or say otherwise! >:D)
"Aye. We'll be here when you get back." Vondal shuffles off to start looking around for items to replenish his healer's kit: largely salves, severely diluted healing potions, willow bark, bandages, and a few other odds and ends for emergencies. He pauses in his scrutinizing a map casing he found to give Nif his full attention. A small, knowing smile blooms at the mention of the sell. But, he doesn't tease him as their other Brother's might; only noted to wheedle out the full story on their way to Halia's shop.
"Exactly. Might even get decent deal on arms and armor picked up from cave and road goblins." And with those words spoken in dwarvish, he went back to gathering what few supplies were already present and placing them on the counter. Vondal can get out no more than a grumble at Karl's complaint before having to turning his attention to Barthen. "Aye. Considered getting at least a couple days worth of rations while at it. Didn't see any in first pass over."He glances around the room. "But might've missed it... anyways. Rest is all there. I... We also have difficult request. More than wagon one." He takes a moment as if girding himself. "There were other brothers with us. The one... Brom.. he fell on the trip. We have already seen to a means of having body temporarily preserved until we can make trip back to Neverwinter. But.. we need place to keep him until then. I do not suppose..." He trails off there, giving Barthin an almost hopeful look to go along with the hinted request.

Addition to Post #889. When Karl comes back to Vondal and Nif he says "this lot is for you"handing over 10 Dragons each to them and to Zander. As he hands Zander's share to him he says "don't drink it all at once."He then turns back to Vondal and says "here is another ten Dragons for party supplies."
OOC: Barthen's deal with Gundren was 50. Gundren paid you half to make the delivery and planned to keep half to cover his costs, but he's not here to keep his half. Of course, the DM is telling the player this, so the character doesn't know ... unless you think they'd figure it out. :/
Barthen makes a face at the conclusion of Vondal's request that is a mixture of concern, regret and revulsion. "I ... don't know of any place for that here in Phandalin," he says. "Usually, when a fellow dies, we bury him in the ground. I mean, I've heard of some cultures that burn their dead, but ... Well, if the body's been preserved — and I'm guessin' you mean by magic means — perhaps you could rent it a room at the Stonehill?" He again gives the strange look. "I wouldn't tell Toblen that's what yer doing, though." He then turns his attention to the items Vondal has picked up. Barthen looks over the small supply of healing items. "That'll be 15 silver. As for rations," he says, leading Vondal over to a spot on a shelf. He places the fingers of one hand in an empty spot. "Looks like they haven't been restocked," he says almost under his breath. He looks at the dwarf. "Give me just a second." He walks through the back door again. Vondal hears him exclaim, "Ander! Thistle!" Fairly quickly, the white-haired human is walking back toward Vondal with a smile and a small crate in his arms. "Here we go," he says. He holds out the create for Vondal to take what he wants and then puts the rest on the shelf. "They're five silver a piece."
(@DDP Vondal probably would, but I'm not gonna play it as he's figured it out yet. Or worry all that much. But golly gee, from trying to hold on to a few silvers to suddenly feeling rich is pretty awesome!)
Though a might suspicious at first, Vondal is thrown off after being handled the added gold. "Hmph. Uh... Will do, Uncle." He said, setting the coinage aside in several different pouches as necessary. All the while seeming unnerved with having so much coin on hand.
Afterwards, Vondal meets Barthen's mixed look with resigned acceptance of having long anticipated or experienced many such reactions in the past. "To be frank, I had been hoping to avoid such an awkward outcome. But, it looks like we 'ave no choice. I understand your trepidation. However, it is tradition that all dwarves regardless of cast be committed to the stone among their forefathers. And only out of absolute necessity or desperation should it be fire."He explains calmly as Barthen looked over the items.
From then on, he was content to listen patiently and consider necessities for a time: only really perking up near the end. "I don't know why I even bother putting this away." He jests as he puts down an exact nine dragons. "Here. This should be enough for a tenday and a half(15) then of the rations plus the other supplies. Oh, wait--" He snaps his fingers than put forward another two dragons from his personal expenses. "Throw in backpack too, if any available."He looks glances back outside(if not over to) Zander. "And I appreciate all you've done for us, Barthen. With any luck, you'll 'ave at least answer about Nundro and Tharden within the next two days or so... if they're still close by."On that note, he gestures to Karl to ready pack up the rations, muttering in dwarvish to see to it all being divided among him(Karl), Nif, and Zander later.
"Right, let's get going to that -- Shite! One more thing. We are good on holding on cart for at least until we finish other delivery, yes?"

Barthen accepts payment for all Vondal has chosen and does have two backpacks to sell as well for the standard two gold each. As he bids the dwarves good-bye, and then Vondal asks his final question, the old man shrugs. "As far as I know, it's Gundren's. I don't really have a place for it, myself. I'm not really sure where it should go, so, as long as you can keep it in good condition — and keep his animals well-fed and taken care of — I'd say keep it until he's found."
(@DDP That Pun only works if it he was a Hill Dwarf gosh darn it!)
Vondal nods, and with that Vondal will put down another five shards down to have however much feed it would buy, provided it's available. "Again. Much appreciated, Mr. Barthen. Let it be known that your faith in us -- however still slim--" He gives Barthen a mirthful grin and wink. "-will be rewarded." On that note, he helps Karl and Zander get the feed loaded up before they drive it on to their next destination.

The three dwarves drive the cart — pulled by oxen, loaded with one sorcerer with a major hangover, several crates and bags with the Lionshield symbol, and one magically-preserved dwarf — through town, passing the smithy, Shrine of Luck, Stonehill Inn, and the stone building with the noticeboard out front. They stop in front of the large, but modest-looking building with the sign shaped like a wooden shield with a blue lion painted on it hanging above the front door. Entering, a tiny bell attached to the door jingles. Those that enter find a spacious lodge that is largely empty. Several rooms are open to each other, but there are more that are closed off by walls or doors further on. The building is mostly open and lit by large windows, but quite barren. It takes a little bit of waiting, but a middle-aged woman finally appears from a side room, bustling into the open area hastily and a bit fussily. "I'm coming, I'm coming," she says. She removes an apron from around her waist, and as she passes by a window, she drops the ball of fabric onto the sill. Stopping in front of the visitors, she places her hands on her hips and eyes them. "Well? What do you want?"
(@DDP Just to be clear, we broke off with Sildar at the Inn, but it is assumed he will be digging up info about his missing friend?)
Vondal steps up from among those that chose to follow him in with his hands neatly folded behind him. "Miss Halia, I presume?" He pauses for only a second before curtly straightening out his back, seeming to take in the woman's no-nosense air. "I'm Vondal of the Stormfist Clan. And me and my brothers have discovered something we believe to be of yours."At that, he looks to Karl, giving him the signal to go and grab the chest if he hadn't already brought it in with him.
"I'm afraid whoever you or your associates might've tasked with original job of delivery... did not make it. Or at least, ran off before the goblins responsible for 'misplacing' your goods could have at them. Me and mines know not which."He admits with a shrug.
(Orileo Halia is a different building.. She is at the Miner's exchange, just down the road. And if I remember correctly, the Orcs are another building. Nif saw many things on his adventure.)
The woman frowns at Vondal. "If you're looking for Halia Thornton, you're in the wrong place, stranger. Halia runs the Miner's Exchange. It's the building directly south of here. This is the Lionshield Coster."
Nif turns to Vondal, once again speaking in Dwarvish. "What do we do brother? There are so many tasks to take on.."
It takes Vondal close to a minute of absent-minded beard combing, but he comes back to the present with hardly any apparent awareness of having drifted off.
