The Tabaxis ears swivel around a bit at the sudden voice in his head, but recognizes it as Gargan. He lifts his empty glass as if to drink and whispers back "I will try and follow the elf, Yagra should be easy to locate again."
The two converse for some time. Eventually they shake hands and the gnome gets up to depart, leaving the elf in his booth to himself. He opens a notebook laying on the table and begins to make some notes in it.
The gnome walks back to Yagra, and then the two walk out the front door together.
Watching the Gnome and Yagra depart the portal Gargan gets up and follows after them. Once outside at the first opportunity he gets he will duck behind a wagon or into an alley for a brief moment and cast disguise self on himself, giving himself the appearance of the most generic looking human he can imagine, before diving back out and continuing to follow behind the two of them.
Ok. You follow the two outside. They stop and converse briefly, and you see the gnome hand Yagra a small pouch and then climb into a nearby cart. You get a little excited and dive behind a cart and begin casting the spell. Unfortunately you chose the same cart the gnome got into and it pulls away just before the spell takes effect. You stand up ready to resume your surveillance but when you turn around Yagra is standing there staring right at you, one eyebrow raised.
"Well lizard man, looks like you're trying to hide from something. We got a problem?"
Gargan coughs awkwardly, clearly embarrassed by the situation. Thinking fast he comes up with a ruse and attempts to get the situation under control once more. "Ah, Yagra my friend....This is most awkward indeed. I recently got in a fight or two with...." He glances around to make sure no one is too close before continuing "With the Xanathar's guild. It most certainly did not go well for them." He lets out a muted chuckle here. "But well, I've taken to moving around the streets in disguise waiting for them to forget about our little...incidents. Can't be too cautious with them, from what I've heard they can be quite petty."
She looks a little blankly at you, as if she knows you're lying on some level but trying to decide how much, and if she cares. After a couple of seconds she shrugs "Well the enemy of my enemy is my friend, as they say". She chuckles and slaps her large hand on your shoulder. "Now I believe you left a half filled bottle on the bar in there! Can't have that go to waste can we?! Come on, you can regale me with your tales of fighting Xanathar scum!"
She pull open the door to the tavern and practically shoves you inside in front of her. It's maybe mid-afternoon at this point but that doesn't seem to bother her. You make your way back to the bar and she refills your glasses .. like all the way to the top this time. She holds up her glass "You first lizard man, then you can tell me about this .. encounter. And I want DETAILS - tell me all of it!!". She laughs loudly drawing a little bit of attention from those around you. You can see some of the other patrons whispering as they watch the interaction between the two of you. You also seen Durnan kind of just leaning back on his bar a few feet away with a grin on his face. You also notice he's already got another bottle out and ready to replace this one when it's empty.
Letting himself be lead back into the tavern Gargan lets out another mental sigh. Here we go once more. As they enter he sends a quick glance in Cloudfurs direction with a look of helplessness on his face as he is led to the bar.
As Yagra fills the glass and demands the tale he shakes his head to loosen himself up and then downs the glass. Looking up he starts to recount their trip through the sewers: "So...we were in the sewers and the first we knew of it was the appearance of a hideous floating bundle of eyes..." He then recalls the encounters in the sewer, however he is very careful to omit two details about the encounters, he makes no mention of neither Raener nor Floon. Instead not giving a reason for them being in the sewers at all. He makes sure to go into great details about Dori setting everything on fire however, sure that it will get plenty of chuckles.
He finishes with his ploy to get out of the halflings house without suspicion. "And some how it worked! So, what about you? I am getting the impression that you are not so friendly with the Xanathar's from the smile on your face. I bet you've got a few tales no?" With that he motions to Durnan to pass over the next bottle and tops up their glasses.
"What'cha dooooin?" A feminine and playful voice suddenly whispers in Cloudfur's ears. Looking towards the source reveals nothing. But in turning back, there's a woman seated (or standing as the case may be) right next to the Tabaxi, casually stirring a wine bottle in hand. A human, by all accounts, dressed in thick furs and leather's fit for the weather. She was an easterner judging by the tanned skin and black hair with golden eyes, bushy brows, and a though obscured by clothing and hair -- small lips curled upward into a pleased smile.
Before a question could be asked, she adds, "Cloudfur, right? or have I gotten the wrong cat yet again? Wouldn't that be awkward for both of us friends of the Harp."She finally looks to him and holds out a gloved hand as if to shake.
The tabaxi's turns suddenly at the whispering in his ear, only to find him nose to nose with this person. His nose crinkles as he sniffs the air between them.
"You seem to have me mistaken for one of my kin, for I do not recall having a friend named The Harp....." and he'll raise his empty glass up to take a drink before adding "though I do recall meeting a dwarf called himself Harpsichord Stumphand, but we called him Winky-Eye.....and he played the bagpipes ...." and he'll glance down at the proffered hand.
He maintains their almost nose to nose position because the concept of personal space is foreign to him so this does not seem awkward to him.
Despite the alcohol in hand, Cloudfur detected any on her breathe. In fact, it was hard get anything off her in that brief window other than the scent of woman and open air. The woman pouts at the reply, but otherwise seems not to mind the closeness at all. After a moment or two, she makes a silent 'o' with her mouth, and nods sagely to herself. "The boss did warn me that subtlety wasn't ya strong suit. Though it's another thing to see it in person." She admits while swirling the bottle again at the neck in one hand off to the side. "Poor Sizan. You lot must've constantly driven the old man mad constantly." In setting aside the bottle, she quickly takes off a glove during the short spiel, and goes to scratch Cloudfur behind the ear with dexterous fingers.
"But what a funny name, Stumphand. Not quite as funny as a goblin called Nottingham the brave, but close!"

"Sizan........." the tabaxi lets that name roll around in his mouth for a bit as if trying to make some connection "....it is possible I have met that one.....it seems.......familiar"
As you reach out to scratch behind his ear, he smacks your wrist with the top of his staff and he focuses fully upon you.
"I am not sure what kind of establishment you think this is, but I assure you, touching is not permitted...." and he'll lean back and pull a pipe out of his pouch, load it with some pipe weed, produce a small flame with the tip of his finger (produce flame) and light it. He will check to see the elf is still there.
Despite the pain in her hand, the woman smiled through it as she rubbed at her hand. "Just seeing what I can get away with is all. Before I came here, I did some brushing up on Tabashii -- what like I could rustle up, in any case. T'is what I get for trusting too much in books, I guess."She covers up her hands again and leans back in her seat. "This would be rather embarrassing if you really don't know him. It isn't often I get to pay my friend back. I'm Jack, by the way. A Harper. Not that you would know that. Sizan isn't big into bragging about fellow compatriots and the like."
Beneath the carefree veneer, Jack watched Cloudfur closely as she continue to speak. "I would like to be your friend to, even if you're not who I was looking for. We can always use friends in this world. Even the elf that you've been keeping an eye on." She says, though the last part comes out as conspiratorial whispers.

"Sizan is overly secretive in general." he says taking a puff from his pipe "but since you have put your cards on the table as it were Jack, then you do have the pleasure of meeting The High Winds Upon The Mountain Flow Through His Cloudfur, humble druid of Silvanus." and he will incline his head a moment. "So Mirt has sent you on whatever errand you are on then? If that is the case then you can keep an eye upon the elf while I attempt to rescue a friend from either death or marriage......"
"E'yup! I think it's a Yuan-Ti thing." She comments on during the drag. After she goes from canting her head at the cards comment to looking bug-eyed at Cloudfur at the name. Mutely, she inclines her head in turn before seeming to shake off her surprise. "I wouldn't call it errand, per se. Buuut, I did volunteer to help you folk out while Sizan's out getting his second wind. And keeping an eye out seems right up my alley! Just, uhm, nevermind. Gooood luck to ya, Mr. Cloudfur-sir-friend-o." She says before turning to idly nursing her bottle and keeping an eye on the elf.

Yagra kills the next glass and gets a bit of a stern (or more stern than she normally looks) look about her. "Listen let's get one thing straight. I may do some work for the Zhents now and then but the only one Yagra works for is Yagra. They pay me well and are good people to know. They want me to hate the Xanathar guild, so I hate the Xanathar guild. Sounds you like you gave em a run for their money. Good! Davil back there would be happy to hear that." She nods back towards the elf in the corner of the room. More drinks. "What the hell were doing down there anyway?"
Probably about time you made a constitution saving throw :)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gargan
Drinking another glass Gargan lets out a deep breath of satisfaction. Not so bad this stuff after all he muses to himself before he replies to Yagra. "I can appreciate that my friend, a jobs a job but nothing more, always got to watch out for your own hide before anyone else's ideals or objectives. But anyway we were down there for the usual reason, carrying out an errand for some rich folk who paid us to go looking for something. Stumbled upon the Xanathar's while we were down there."
Being a bit of a lightweight, the booze is definitely hit you. I'm going to say you've got a good buzz going and have disadvantage on ability checks. Yagra on the other hand looks like she may as well have been drinking water.
"Fitting to find them down there. Probably where the smell comes from!" She chuckles, drinks. "What on earth were they lookin' for down there? Seems unusual."
In the mean time whichever of you is keeping an eye on the elf. He's ordered some food but otherwise is keeping to himself.
