Valetta looks a little perplexed: "No .. this is not a lock I am familiar with nor do I have a key. If you have a .. ", she looks at Kanus's hand on his axe, ".. peaceful way of getting it open, please go ahead."
Jack fumbles around with the lock for a while but is clearly above her skill level despite it looking like quite basic. Valletta gives her a bit of a look like .. “really? That’s all you got?”
Jack huffs and rolls her eyes. "Its not as if I make a habit of using these." She whispers back in response to the look. Afterwards, she steps aside and gives the others a mocking bow to try their hand at getting the door open. She makes sure to get at least ten to fifteen behind the others as they moved to deal with the door, arms crossed, and cheeks puffed out. "Stupid door.."

Suddenly becoming concerned that their target might be about to get away Gargan looks to Valletta and asks with great urgency: “Are there windows inside this room? Is there an escape route my dear acolyte?”
If he gets an affirmative Gargan would immediately start to head back towards the outside of the building as quickly as possible to cover the escape, signalling to the others for one of them to come with him while the others continue to work on the door.
Kanus shoots jack a smile and takes his battleaxe from it's sheath. "Oy, guess it's time for a bit of heavy handedness eh?" he then slides the blade of the axe between the door and the jacm and attempts to use it as a lever to open the door.
OOC: Not sure what sort of check you'd like me to use here?
Valetta says "Yes, there is a window in the spire but I'm not sure how you would get up there without going through this room." She looks a little concerned when Kanus pulls out his axe but is perhaps at least grateful he's not trying to break it down.
Valetta steps back and Kanus steps up to the door, jams the blade of his axe in between the door and frame by the lock and with a sharp twist the lock shatters and the door flies open. Only minor damage ..
The door opens to a small room that almost looks like an attic. There are boxes and old furniture strewn about, some draped in cloth. The air is dusty. A single window looks out on to the roof shining light into the room. You don't see anyone at first, but as you all file in a metallic humanoid creature nervously peers from behind some crates. After seeing Valetta it emerges slowly to stand in front of you. Meanwhile the sound of the door being broken open seems to have drawn some attention as two acolytes come up the stairs behind you.
"Nim!" Valetta exclaims sharply, "Was it you that put this lock on the door?". The creature nods slowly. Valetta shakes her head, and quickly directs the acolytes to tend to the door. One runs off while the other assesses the damage and begins removing the 'new' lock.
Having started to make a move towards the exit Gargan stops in his tracks as Kanus easily breaks the lock on the door. Returning to the group he gives the paladin a shrug and a grin as he watches Valletta confront Nim. Noting the constructs nervousness Gargan quickly finds his curiosity peaked, this is not what he had expected to find at all. Feeling a strange emotion he suddenly realises that he is sympathetic towards the creature. Unexpected, I will have to think more on this later. Shaking it off he speaks up, hoping to defuse the situation a little.
“Greetings Nim, I am Gargan and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I do apologise for the rather aggressive manner in which we have confronted you, it was not our intent to scare you. We were hoping you might be able to help us in fact, we have come in search of information. Would you be aggrieved at all if we asked you some questions?”
Turning back to the new acolytes, Jack tries placating them with a few 'everything's alright' waves. Whether they decide to take her gestures at face value or not, she steps in after the others, taking in the whole room first before truly acknowledging the metal (wo)man(?). "So this is the little trouble maker. I was expecting-..." She pauses to stroke her chin, then smiles and shrugs. "Not sure what I expected. Nice to meet'cha, Nim! I'm Jack!" Jack proclaims peeking past the others during the intro, and ending it on finger waggles. Other than that sort of hill turn, the woman was content to watch and wait.

Nim does not speak, looking in turn at each of you talking and then back at Valetta repeatedly. "Nimblewrights cannot speak", Valetta chimes in, "but they use a rudimentary form of hand signaling that I have mostly come to understand. You may ask it questions and I will do my best to relay the answers." Nim quickly nods it's head in agreement.
Kanus slips his battleaxe back into his sheath as he watched Cloudfur's gestures. Then with a smile he claps his hand on Cloudfur's shoulder, "That was awfully nice of ya" he nods with sincerity.
Only picking up on some of the gestures Cloudfur is making Gargan shakes his head as he watches. Carrying on as if it hasn't happened he looks to Nim, glancing at Valletta as she translates.
"Was it you, Nim, who sent the bird device at us when we arrived here at the temple?"
"Huh. Yeah, I can see that. No mouths. Kinda would make talking a bit of an issue." She says, chuckling until the Tabaxi's rude gesture warrants a "Oi! Be civil"from her. Whether she gets one herself in turn or merely a look, Jack shrugs it off to listen with interest to Gargan's query; only to blurt out a, "Sorry about the door, by the way. Hindsight, rather rude on our part, and I hope you can forgive the intrusion." She request sincerely.
No gap under the door :)

You can make a Thief's Tools check for the lock.
