Jebben glances from Wander to Ellayne as they speak.
"I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment; these events are not within our bailiwick, though it doesn't hurt," the gnome adds, raising the handle of his rapier for emphasis, "to prepare oneself for the contingency that someone MAKES it our business."
Wander nods as he slowly slips himself into a strange stance, his staff resting in both of his hands to show that the warforged knows how to use it. His inorganic joints click as he watches. "I shall only attack if I am forced to do so although I would prefer to uphold a constant state of peace."
As the strange group flee out of your sight, three guards rush past you, including the Elf who brought you your food just a little while ago. Minister Trask follows close behind.

As the sage pressed his staff against the wooden frame, a green sickly energy entered through the cracks and holes within it, emanating from the crystal at the end of the staff. You have not encountered this magic before, it may not even be Arcane.
The first guard, a tall burly Elf with the scarlet cloak of the guard, approaches the door - spear held high. As he reaches the archway, the door transforms itself. The once innocent wooden frame now a mess of teeth and skin. The frame drops onto the guard, leaving just the stone outline of the doorway. The man screams in agony as it's body is ripped in two, blood splatters the stone floor and up the walls. The two guards and Trask stop in their stride and immediately dive backwards in shock.
The creature starts to crawl forward. The stain of blood smearing it's path, towards the guards.

"Well that's new." Barnum said, "Looks like you might have made the right choice there, young Tipplewhiskers."
A crick of his neck could be heard as Barnum rolled his shoulders, lifting the large hammer, bringing his second hand to the handle and readying for action.

The corridor is 10ft wide, and you are 20ft away from the creature. In front of the creature are two Guards and Minister Trask. They appear to be trying to escape toward you, where the corridor reaches a crossroads.
"Guess that means we're up." Barnum said. "Good way to brush off some of the cobwebs after days in that cell."
A laugh slipped past his lips, casually brushing his way past the Minister and anyone else who stood between he and ... the door. A whirl of his arms around his head brought the hammer swinging down toward this odd creature.

A barrage of attacks from Barnum and Wander smash into the creature and it writhes in agony for a second, before re-assuming it's form. Dorstaers blast barely misses the creature, and smacks into the wall, creating a crater in the stone.
As the creature reels back from the attacks, it charges and bites into Wander, presenting the largest target.
[Attack - 7 / Damage - 7 + 5 Acid
The creature hits Wander with such ferocity that the Warforged immediately drops to the floor, unconscious.
The two guards swing at the creature with their spears, still bloody from killing the caged Orcs.
Guard 1 - 5 / Damage - 4
Guard 2 - 11 / Damage - 3
Both Guards manage to connect with the creature, moving it back from Wander. Minister Trask runs backwards from the fight.

Vostaria (on her turn) studies the creature for a time, curious about its origins and intentions. At last, she sighs, and mutters an incantation, loosing three blue darts of energy on the creature.
(Well this is my time to leave the campaign. My policy is to never use a character who falls in the first combat. Hope the rest of you have fun. Also damn this thing is strong for a first encounter for lvl 1 characters....)
(Doesn't seem unreasonably strong for me yet. If it has more than 12 AC, it's only taken 14 damage so far by my count - 25 after the magic missile I guess. At 12 AC it would have taken 21 before it's turn. And +5 to hit with 1d8+3 and 1d6 acid damage. With 6 characters at level 1 a medium encounter would be 300 XP, hard would be 450, going by the DMG encounter difficulty chart. A brown bear is only 200 XP with 34 hp and 2 attacks at +5 to hit and 1d8+4 and 2d6+4 damage, could *potentially* one-shot 2 different characters. Hard to say after one round how easy or hard a fight it's going to be. And sadly, at level 1 it's really easy to get one-shot. But either way, up to you, and have fun on your future adventures :))

Dorstaer shrugs. "Doesn't hurt to be ready just in case, I suppose," he says, readying his quarterstaff just in case.
