I figure sarith is probably the best choice for scouting if he's willing.
Besides spacing out, he used to be a Drow guard. He is putting up with the group, but I doubt he is willing... If we lose him, then the group is stuck following the kid shroom.
Narstin could cast Guidance, and Xilyrah uses that for her Perception?

Just a note: I probably haven't been enforcing this properly, but creatures using Darkvision to 'see' things in complete darkness only see it as dim light, which comes with a disadvantage for vision based perception. Going forward, we should always roll twice for perception while in darkness. In the case of Xilyrah scouting ahead, her perception roll was fantastic, so she knows for sure something is out there and has a pretty good idea of where, but because she rolled lower (I rolled again for her), she can't actually see the creature.
Is anyone else getting a "Dead of Winter" vibe from this elf? I don't want to add a useless burden mouth to feed, but I'd have trouble finding an in-character reason not to help him.

Seeing as you've taken up a refugee, your food/water requirements are now 10.5 per day. The elf is currently starved and suffering from 3 levels of exhaustion... you can see he's not surviving on his own.
Since you resolved your web blockage issue with brute force, you've lost half a day's travel, which means pursuit approaches and your foraging difficulty increases. IE: the results shift up one difficulty level (DC 10 = 1 lb/gal, DC 15 = 2lb/gal, etc..)
You're going into day 9 with: 3.5 pounds of Day 8 food, 3 gallons in waterskins and 2 waterorbs.
The half day's worth of travel is fruitful and you progress 3 miles (total 44 miles)
Your party forages:
Derendil: 1 pound gallons of food water
Eldeth: Nothing
Jimjar: 4 pounds gallons of food water
Beegred: 2 gallons pounds of food (doubled) to 4 gallons pounds
Tozer: nothing
Narstin: 4 gallons pounds of water food.
The party ends the day with 11 gallons of water, leaving .5 gallons in a waterskin after everyone drinks their fill. The party has 8.5 pounds of food and needs 10.5.
Playing for Narstin, in light of his alignment, he will abstain from eating this day. Same for Eldeth, who is selfless. One more person doesn't get to eat (or two if small races), or half rations if Derendil.
Thanks to Quasimodal for finding my mistakes. Everyone eats and with Narstin's create water, everyone drinks.
Leftover food: 1 lb of day 9 food. Leftover water: 3 gallons in waterskins.
In post 1002, you swapped the food and water foraging. (Post 1001 has the correct assignments.)
The group has 3.5 + 8 lbs of food, so there is 1 lb left over. There is a shortfall in water (3 + 5), so Narstin is casting Create Water, with 3 lbs left over in the waterskins.

Fixed in OOC and Official thread. Nice catch. Now I'm going to bed, like I should have before trying to post and do math.

I'll advance the story tomorrow or after you all decide how to proceed. This is my tabletop night, so I won't likely post again today.
Xilyrah has +4 stealth, but no bonuses for perception. She could go investigate with help.

Xilyrah, how far from the group would you go?
Tozer, roll perception to see if the noises wake you up.
Perception check for Tozer: 14 (Wake up, lad!)
I want to keep the party within my line of sight, so 60 feet (that’s the range of my dark vision).

Would adding the +4 guidance from Narstin to the second roll change anything?

Yes it would.
