It says "explosive and poisonous". So we could probably just climb into the Rope Trick and ignite it. No telling though what it may destroy or attract. We haven't seen anything of the drow in the last few days.. nor anyone else for that matter, so it might make sense to take the extra time and effort to find a safer, quieter way forward.

I agree, take the extra time to find an alternate route. Maybe they will get lucky and find a side passage nearby that was overlooked the first time.
Since the gas is explosive, setting it off might collapse the narrow tunnel. In which case, the party would be forced to backtrack anyways.

It looks like day 48 and 49 both added 6 miles travel distance, but day 49 didn't increase the total - still at the same 72/96 as day 48.
