The survival DC to find only the Grick Alpha is 20. One encounter + Grick Alpha has a DC of 15. Two encounters + Grick Alpha has a DC of 10.
SURVIVAL CHECK MODIFIERS:
You can reduce the DC of the checks above by using your skills. Any particular skill can only be applied once.
Reason with me why any particular skill would apply to this situation, and then roll for that skill. DC 15 gives you a -5 to the survival check. DC 10 gives you a -2 to the survival check. You can stack several modifiers.
Currently there is only one myconid hunter helping to navigate with you. Whatever skills you bring to bear, it has to be from yourselves or however the hunter can assist.
I'd say one extra encounter, but I'm okay if others vote for 2.
Same suggestion for Beegred that I posted earlier. Not sure what to suggest for others.
Beegred helps with the Grick, using Perception (+5) and Investigation (+3) to identify holes and passages that a predator of that size would use as a lair to spring upon prey. (The double proficiency on those skills is due to the Underdark being his favored terrain.)

Rodolfo would question the myconid hunter on the timeline of how they learned about the Grick Alpha and the damage it has done. One would assume they know the rough area of where the last casualties took place, so the search area could be limited to similar places.
Persuasion (+3) to convince the hunter to take the time and be thorough in his recollection and description and Investigation (+5) to piece the gathered information together for it to be helpful in this search.

If we get lucky and don't get too badly injured, we could always look to encounter (weaker) scavengers on the way back.

Sorry guys - back - just catching up on the thread and conversations now :)
the mound 'seemed' easy despite what Kerrec advised us about both the mound and the gricks challenge rating - so yeah I suppose we can try to get the Grick next - they're only characters :D

Sorry for the late start today. Home with my sick daughter who didn't sleep much last night, so we both slept this morning.
That being said, I put up the map for the Grick Alpha. You may choose to approach from any direction you want, in any marching order. The yellow perimeter is 'the rock' and is sheer rock wall about 20-30 feet high. Seeing as I don't have a lot of time today, please let me know where to place your tokens on the map. Right now they're just all in the lower right corner. Also roll your initiatives.
For legitimacy, the location of the Grick Alpha is below. Don't peek until after the battle is over.
Roll hit dice during the short rest.

DC to even be able to find only the Grick Alpha decreases to 15. 1 encounter + Grick Alpha decreases to 10.
Will let the others chime in, then you can all decide when to roll Survival to hunt the Grick Alpha.

DC to even be able to find only the Grick Alpha decreases to 8. 1 encounter + Grick Alpha decreases to 3.
If you want 1 encounter + Grick Alpha, you can choose to do that. Otherwise, the Survival DC is now 8 to find the Grick Alpha.
I think that's low enough. Someone roll a Survival check.
Narstin survival check: 8. Assuming no advantage from beegred this time since he was doing other stuff to reduce the difficulty?
Cutting it a bit close, there.

I just remembered - Rodolfo would have done an Arcane Recovery during the short rest to get back two 1st level spell slots.
I like to live dangerous! Or something. On the plus side, there was no possible way to tget worse than 1 encounter + the grik
Sure.
Do you all want to choose to have 1 encounter before the Grick Alpha, or directly to the Grick Alpha?
To make this legit. Don't peek until after Grick Alpha fight is done.
I guess straight into the Grick.
If we get lucky and don't get too badly injured, we could always look to encounter (weaker) scavengers on the way back.
