Upon returning down to the dungeon, Vanja would have used Druidcraft to reignite the torch, and she would carry it herself if Hildigrim prefers to keep both of his hands free.
If Vanja doesn't have a torch in hand, she uses Produce Flame as a light source for herself.
Looking around, Pascal takes in the sights, “Someone had plenty of free time to go around making this, terrible shame. Plenty o’ voodoo going on.” Pascal will be holding his breath for the most part, stopping to speak every now and then. You never know when poison gas traps could pop up.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
"Let us move through the hall and turn west, from where the elf came. Hildi, would you take lead and keep your eyes on the ground. I will stay behind you, ready to cut the thread of any who would harm you, as before."
OOC: First of all, Hildigrim would NEVER brag. Ha ha, just kidding! Only, he wouldn't know he was bragging, but everyone else would. Second of all, if Hildigrim can free up both hands, he would. Thanks, Vanja!
Hildigrim is keeping his eyes open for any dangers. Investigation: 25
The group advances down the hallway to the intersection, moving carefully as Hildigrim scans the floor, walls, and ceilings. He finds no reason to stop your slow progress, and you reach the intersection itself.
Northwards, the hall continues, eventually opening into a larger space, but Drusk cannot make out how large. Westward, the hall goes just 20 feet before opening into a room. You can make out some rubbish in a pile in the middle of the open space.
But what pulls you up is a sudden, strange purring noise coming from the westward room.
(OOC: Vote west, stopping when we see what is making the noise.)
Drusk: "Be cautious. There is a voice in my head. It is talking about a Beaumont, maybe the elf upstairs? And it seems eager for the blood room to be active again."

Hildigrim halts and looks as if he's listening to the purring. But when Drusk mentions a voice in his head, the halfling nods. "I am also experiencing the telepathic voice," Hildi says. He holds up a finger and thinks back, Is Beaumont the name of the afflicted individual we took upstairs? He was injured, so we took him to rest and recover. Is he a friend of yours? Are you in the room ahead?
Pascal nods along, “What’d I tell y’all, voodoo. Lots o’ voodoo all up in this place. Lemme know if any of y’all want to randomly cut of a hand or something.”
(If everyone is okay with west, and we don't have any other precautions to do, then maybe Jorin 1 square north 3 west, Hildi 1N 1W, and everyone else closer behind them? That should let us see what is in the middle of that room.)

OOC > Let me know if you don't like where I put you, we're not in combat (yet).
The party moves forward into the hallway, cautiously, trying to get a better look at what is in the room. From your vantage, you can make out that a lot of what must have once been in this dungeon has ended up here: broken furniture, torn fabric, kitchen implements, an old iron stove, and more make up the considerable pile.
As you advance, the purring changes to a higher pitch, like a whine or a low scream, then it starts making sounds in a guttural, low language none of you (according to your sheets) understand. Out of the gloom at the back of the room, a nightmare creature emerges, floating above the floor. It seems to have a central mass, where the slavering jaws and sharp teeth live, along with one large, glaring, bloodshot eye, but it is hard to tell for the tentacles waving menacingly in the air around it. You are not sure how many there are, but some of those tentacles have eyes at the end of them, looking at you. It floats towards the pile of junk in the center of the room.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jorin sees the thing floating in the room and believes it to be the creature speaking to his mind. "You want my shiney axe, do you?" He snarls, "It just so happens that I am in a giving mood!"
Jorin charges into the room (looks like 30' is just enough) and attacks with his battleaxe once before whirling around to bring the blade of the offhand axe in as well.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(OOC: Dunno how the others feel, but that was the formation I had in mind...
Still OOC: Crap! I was going to recommend withdrawing until we are 2nd level, but Jorin has us committed. What size is this thing? If it is like a greeting balloon size, we have a chance. If it is person-sized or larger, we are hosed.)
When Jorin starts charging into the room, Drusk will follow a little behind, then step left (4 squares left, 1 down) to get a target on this thing for a Sacred Flame. DEX save DC 12 or take 6 radiant damage.

(OOC: Its all good. Like you said non-Jorin-ish, and if we win, more fun. And if we lose, more swearing at Jorin!
Even the not-beholders can be rough, especially for 1st level characters. Jorin's attack is very nice, but the rest of the party will need some luck to put it down before the eye beams activate on its init.)

I'll work up a Round 1 Declaration phase post here in a minute (I wasn't expecting combat to break out this soon). If you want to jump the gun, a quick reminder as for how to declare:
Declare your actions (Action, Move, Bonus, and/or Reaction) or declare that you are Delaying (to see what happens to poor Jorin). Some caveats or if/then okay.
Roll for all of your actions, in case they all fire and hit.
Roll an initiative roll (and every round hereafter) in case I need it for tie-breaking.
Special: In this case, I also need everyone to roll a random d20 roll. For no obvious reason. (Actually, I just want to have it in the can should I need you to make a Save, you know, just in case. I will consult your sheets for bonuses, so make sure they are up to date.)
