Respar grabs the box and follows Kiven out, ready to drop the box and resort the knife Eya has provided once he is close enough to enter melee with the guards of the prison.
Kiven, Respar, and Eya run to join in the fight. The arcanist summons another eagle, it scores the veteran across the back.
Jesla charges forward, only for the guard before her to sweep his spear haft across her ankles, tripping the barbarian and halting her charge. Taking another eagle claw on his arm, the guard steps off to the north, and drives his spear into the summoned eagle, killing it in a single stroke. He tries a followup strike on Jesla, but misses.
Grumblejack grumbles as he looks at the door, unable to reach the guard from his position. He can wedge himself through, but it will take a good bit of time and effort.
8 damage dealt to Eagle. No damage to others in the party. Jesla needs to take a move action to stand back up. Though since her charge was interrupted before she got anywhere, I'll let her do that at the end of that turn if she wishes.
Jesla stands back up and growls. She then rushes towards this guard again . Jesla feints going straight towards himself when and hits him from the side.
Eya waits for Tesla to move into the room and get into position first. Once that happens, she says to the others, "Better hurry in before Grumblejack tries to squeeze through." She quickly rushes in and moves a bit southward along the wall to give him some room. She summons another eagle to attack the veteran guard from above the end of the table once again.
Delay turn to after Jesla since I need her to go in first, then move south along the wall to give some room for Grumbles to T15. Summon the Eagle again at V13 and he will do all of the attacks with Smite Good again. I'm purposefully not flanking with the Eagle in order to give some room for Grumbles.
Still smoothly and confidently striding through the main hall, Kiven sees Jesla's new sword on the floor and decides to pick it up for his new pal. He holds it upside down by the pommel, having little intention of using it. The elf continues on into the dining hall and sees the veteran guard giving Jesla trouble. Stepping past Eya, he quickly touches his component pouch, rubbing a bit of wool between two fingers and then raises his long, slender arm. With a sinister grin, the elf makes a motion with his hand as if to choke someone, hoping to stop their foe in his tracks.
OOC I believe my spell save DC is 14 on cantrips. Will save here vs Daze.
Dodging the spear this time, Jesla rushes in and around the guard, but misses him. Eya goes in next, but is struck for her trouble, a spearhead leaving a shallow wound on her thigh. The arcanist summons another eagle, which manages to score two good strikes.
Respar and Kiven follow suit, one striking out with a dagger though missing, and the other attempting to daze the guard, who manages to shake it off.
Grumblejack starts to ponderously squeeze his bulk through the door.
Meanwhile, the veteran guard steps back and then lunges forward at Respar, the spearhead sinking deep. The door behind him opens, and a grumpy looking man in his small clothes stands there. Eyes widening, the man slams the door shut again, and the sound of moving furniture can be heard. The veteran calls out, "Cowards!"
Eya takes 6 damage, Respar 9 The guard just took a 5' step, so no he didn't provoke AOOs with his movement.
Jesla growls in irritation. Her green eyes glitter at the guard causing them delay . She launches at him in a Savage swirl of teeth and razor sharp claws .
Eya is caught by surprise as the grizzled veteran stabs her in her left thigh. She grits her teeth and growls, "Argh, seems like this one actually knows how to fight, unlike the rest of the worthless trash in this place." She looks the veteran in the eyes directly, mere moments before he's shredded by Tesla, and says, "I respect your tenacity old man, but you're still going to die here today. Those worthless cowards have abandoned you. Blame your misfortune on your shitty, hypocritical leadership."
After he's dead, Eya looks to Grumbles with an amused expression and asks, "Grumblejack, can you make it through okay? Would you kindly help the tiger lady with that door? In the meantime, I'm going to take a peak in this other room."
Eya has her infernal eagle come to her side then puts her back against the southern wall by the door. She opens the door carefully and peers into the room before continuing.
Eya moves to X17 and the Eagle goes with her to Y17. This is assuming lieutenant moral compass is actually dead of course (I'm pretty sure he is from Tesla's rolls). I think Eya still has an action this turn but she needs to know what's in that room first.
Jesla tears into the guard, scoring several deep wounds. The guard staggers back and sinks to a knee, barely able to avoid collapsing entirely. He tries to lift the spear again, but his hands won't close on the now bloody haft properly. He sighs and tilts his head back to look up, "Go on then Forsaken, finish it. The rest of these lazy milksops don't stand a chance, but you'll be hunted down soon enough."
Eya slips to the door to the south, and opens it. Beyond it lies a kitchen. Three people are present, each in working clothes very similar to the garb provided by Eya's benefactor. Two women cower in the corner while an adolescent flour covered boy stands before them. His hands are shaking with fear as he holds a butcher's knife in both hands and points it in Eya's general direction. It is obvious he has nothing resembling combat training. His voice cracks as he calls out, "Stay Back!"
Grumblejack finishes squeezing through the door, looking disappointed he was too slow to help with the veteran guard.
Still technically in combat for the moment, at least unless you guys decide to leave the guys in the barracks alone, but figured this would be a good place to pause with the guard going down.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eya steps into the room and stands near the door. She extends her arm as her hellbird lands on it. The eagle glares at the terrified young boy as Eya snarls, "Listen here you little shit, and the rest of you over there too. Drop that knife now and help us escape from this shithole or I'll have this guy here rip your eyes out from their sockets. Slowly."
"KAKRAW!" The hellbird squawks.
Eya Intimidation Check (with bird aiding for +2 extra): 24
Respar groans aloud as he tries moving with the lash gash in his leg. He retrieves the box and follows the others. For the moment, until they find another chance to rest a moment, he does not ask the tiefling for help to recover.
OOC: I know there are guards beyond at least one of the doors.
'The Prince' looks away in anticipation of Jesla finishing the veteran guard in gruesome fashion and moves along the wall to the door to the kitchen. He peers around the corner while casually leaning against the dining room wall, waiting to hear if Eya obtains any information. All the while he watches the doorway they came in through, hoping their exit from the area is not blocked soon.
Jesla eyes the injured guard eagerly . She moves in and rips his throat out. Blood spatters across the room. She steps back. Her form shimmers as it changes to another. After a brief moment the barbarian woman is standing there again breathing heavily . Blood drips from her mouth . " A shame about him .At least he had courage . Unlike the others . Did anyone grab my sword by chance? " She bends over worn from her exertion .
The Prince looks away as Tesla brutally finishes off the guard. He does witness a drop of blood hit his stolen boot and looks down at it with disgust, then up at Jesla with a similar expression, in no small part because of the blood still on her face. He half heartedly holds out the sword to return it to her, but does not move from where he stands.
"Alright, listen up the three of you. I will spare your pathetic lives, but only if you answer my next questions truthfully. If you don't, then I'll feed you to that giant ogre in the other room." She points to Grumblejacks behind her in the other room. "Sound good? Okay, here we go:
1) Where is the armory from here? 2) Where does the Warden stay and how many guards are near him? 3) We plan to escape from this place, what's the fastest way out of here? 4) Do you have any secrets or other pieces of info that would help us get out of here? 5) What is past that wall there beside you? 6) Do you know where Sergeant Blackerly is? If so, where?"
Eya pauses and to give them a chance to respond between each question. Once the questioning is finished, Eya looks at the young boy and demands, "Boy, take this sack and bundle up enough food for five people to last two days. And bring two more of those knives for me."
The eagle is just sort of individually glaring at each of the servants during this entire exchange.
By past the wall I mean what would past point square AA on the map.
There is much babbling, and a few contradictions as fear makes them inconsistent, but soon enough Eya has her answers. The armory is behind a locked door in the great hall, the last one the group has not yet tried save for the main door out. The Warden's quarters are in the main tower, behind the keep, they don't know how well guarded he is. The fastest route would likely be to dive into the sea, though they seem to think that suicidal. The direct way would be to pass through the gatehouse, cross the bridge, and then through the gatehouse at the other end. The callword for the sentries to allow the staff through this week is "steadfast". The other side of the wall is just the courtyard. Blackerly's at his card game, which they overheard is held somewhere inside the gatehouse, they don't know exactly where.
The boy is still shaking as he gathers food in a sack at Eya's request.
Once the questions have been answered, Eya says to the servants, "Good. Now stay in this room and be quiet for the rest of the night. And do NOT mention me or any of those others behind me to any of the guards." The eagle glares angrily as that last sentence is spoken.
Eya calmly waits for the boy to finish, then inspects the sack when he does. She makes sure that there's food and the two knives she requested. She grins and says, "Good job, boy. Now, continue working. And that goes for the rest of you too." Then, she takes one of the knives for herself and goes to meet with the rest of the group back in the other room. Eya relays the information gathered from the servants to the rest of the group, but pulls Aloro off to the side afterwards.
"Your Highness, here's a knife that might allow you to protect yourself should the need arise. Also, here take this," she says as she reaches up into her bonnet and pulls out a few folded papers. "These incriminating papers are evidence that show Sergeant Blackerly as a scumbag who steals from his men and doesn't report the numbers accurately to the government. I'm sure the Warden would be in big trouble if this were leaked." She hands the papers to Aloro with a wicked grin and continues, "You should decide what to do with these. I'm confident you will make the best decision, as usual."
Are Jesla and Grumblejack making progress on the door? We could ignore them and leave, but I'm worried they might call for help after we do.
Still peering casually around the corner into the kitchen and holding out the sword for Jesla, Kiven wiggles his fingers a bit and takes the knife and papers from Eya with his icy looking spectral hand and stows them in his 'new', 'borrowed' armor. He gives Eya a brief, cold stare regarding the papers but then reverts back to his usual demeanor and begins checking his fingernails for dirt. The Prince lets out a small sigh as he grows impatient for them to move on before more guards show up.
With regard to Eya's instructions to the kitchen staff, Aloro does pipe up a bit before exiting the doorway area. Smug as always, he remarks "actually.. once we are long gone feel free to contemplate the fact that Lord Kiven Aloro was merciful, keeping his dogs at bay so you may live to see his rise." "Do make the most if it, if you even know how." All the while he does not look up from his new task of checking his nails, before finally turning away to move on.
Respar grabs the box and follows Kiven out, ready to drop the box and resort the knife Eya has provided once he is close enough to enter melee with the guards of the prison.
